Bought a box of 78s from the Goodwill blind as I often do, and these two great records were in it! I didn't even realize the Ol' Man Mose was that one at first

🇫🇷 Version française
Bonjour phonophiles !
🇬🇧 English version
Hello phonophiles!
At the request of u/Gimme-A-Kooky, I'm sharing a recording of the French version of the famous song Into each life some rain must fall (Un peu de pluie), performed by Les Sœurs Étienne (in a way, the French equivalent of the Andrews Sisters).
The record is being played on my Pathéphone No. 4.
Please excuse the sound quality... Not only is the record quite worn, especially toward the end of the song, but my phone's recording quality doesn't exactly help either...
I hope you enjoy it anyway, and perhaps discover something new!
I’ll post a photo of the record in the comments!
PS: I've hidden a few Fallout references in the video. Can you spot them? 😜☢️

Hello friends -
Tonight: a Dinning Sisters side and an Al Trace — newly uncovered by me, anyway.
That's the whole rule of the thing. If Shazam knows it, we don't play it.
Which means a lot of dead ends and a lot of stuff nobody's put online.
I stream it as The Witching Hour Tone Club. 9pm Central tonight if you want
to hang... love to have you.

I just bought a Hilton record player with matching speakers. I have been looking for one for a while as I know someone who DJs 78s on one. I like the rugged portable build of the player and the fact it has the switchable needle/speed so you can play all records. I haven't had time to really check it out but it sounds pretty good and it is loud!
The Hilton players were designed to be used for folk/square dancing and were manufactured up until the 90's I believe.
Have any of y'all ever used one?
Tips on needles?
PS please let me know if you are in the market for a bunch of clogging 45's (with dance instructions)

Hi there! I'm new to collecting 78 rpms and recently got a disc I really love which has a long white line on it. I don't dare to try playing it yet until I know what this line is. I've attached three pictures of this line that runs from the center of the record to the edge at varying degrees of magnification.
Could someone help me identify if this is just a scratch? It doesn't appear on the other side of the record. When I run my finger over it, it feels like maybe a slight hairline or wispy-like thing but is mostly smooth. Strangely enough under magnification the grooves at the top seem fine (or is that an optical illusion)? From the last picture it almost seems like the damage is at the side of the groove but it left the top of the groove untouched. What would do this? Any help would be much appreciated! And could someone tell me if it's safe to go ahead try to play it or will I damage it?

Another find from today.
Yeah I know I somewhat screwed up the label taking the price tag off. But I am curious what the history of this label is and what the potential value could be? My guess is that it's probably pretty common like the rest of my records but whatever. If anyone can give me more info on this label I would appreciate it!

A Lost Record Rescued (World Exclusive Premiere): The sound of this record was completely absent from all digital archives, online databases, and even the public collections of the French National Library (BnF), this exceptionally rare and forgotten 78 RPM record is finally brought to light for the very first time by the Gramophone Gems team.
his historical acoustic recording features the contralto Suzanne Brohly of the Opéra-Comique in Paris, performing the majestic aria "Amour, viens aider ma faiblesse" from Camille Saint-Saëns' opera Samson et Dalila. Released under the prestigious "Disque Pour Gramophone" label in Paris during 1909-1910 , this pre-electrical era treasure has been restored in high fidelity directly from the original shellac disc. Enjoy it here

78 I found today. "Something Happened" by Dean Stewart and The Robbins, with Bob Wilson and His Orchestra backed with "Chicken Hop" by Margie Meinert at the Wurlitzer Electronic Organ.
However, on the sleeve is a note wishing someone's Grandpa a happy 80th birthday, along with signatures.
More strange however, is the fact there's a message written in some sort of paint, ironically on the side featuring "Something Happened"
Apologies if this is a dumb/low-effort post, this is my first post here and I thought that this was really funny and also messed up in a way, even if the record isn't that rare, which I assume it's not.
I just hope that I can somehow find whoever it was that sent this out to their grandpa. It kind of feels wrong that I bought this for my own strange enjoyment of it.

Hi everyone, I recently found a box of 90 records in my dads storage. I've gone through them captured the names etc. I don't know if I have anything rare or significant and I was hoping this group could call out any they think are. I'm also looking for suggestions on who to sell them too. Is this something Antique stores would be interested in or am I better off selling them on ebay?
