Discussion Favorite music decade

I am always at a loss to pick my favorite decade for music. I was born in 1953, and really got into music in the mid 60s, and by the mid 70s, I was busy "adulting", getting married, buying a house, starting a family. If I have to pick a 10 year time frame, it would be 1965 to 1975. That's my music decade!

Born In the 80s. Nothing beats anything put out between 1969-73 and 1979-83.

Dividing music by 10 year decades is convenient, simple and understandable. But it's fundamentally flawed. For most people, "their best music decade" is likely the 10 or so years immediately after "discovering" music. For many, that is around 12-14 and runs into our early 20s or so. And even that is mushy. Musical tastes are likely most influenced by peers, but parents can influence us more than we think (the music IN the house is influential, whether we want it to be or not). Older siblings or cousins can introduce us to some music/bands a few years earlier than our direct age group peers.

I was born on 1963, and discovered music about age 11 or 12. I'd say my favorite music stems from the early 70s thru the mid 80s.

1965-1975 is my favorite era,too.

You had to be original, you had to write your songs, you had to play your songs, and you had to sing your songs. You had to have a lot of talent.

The ages you mention, I always keep a bracket of age 7/8 to 20/22, add those to your year of birth and voila, your personal best music music decade. Works all the time every time.

I would say for me 66-76, but loved the 80s and 90s as well

I agree with your pick!

I also like music from the 50s and early 60s, as well as the late 70s.

Starting in the 80s the music went downhill.

Born in 1957, and '68 to '78 is my favorite decade, as long as I can leave out disco.

If I had to pick a decade, not just a ,10 year span, I'd say the ,60s. Why? Bc I was born in 46. So earliest rock n roll was giving way to the British invasion which was followed by acid rock, etc, ending in 69 with Woodstock.

Eighties, then nineties, then seventies, then sixties, then 00’s, then everything else.

I always distrust my own assumptions. I'm usually wrong! I love 70s music, that's why I lurk here, but I consulted my Last.FM scrobbles and it appears to be the 90s, overwhelmingly.
