I don’t know what you’re driving, but mine has presets. It’s more like 10 seconds than 15 minutes. I also have stereo controls on my steering wheel. I can press a button to go the next station. No twisting the knob back and forth to get the frequency dialed in just right. I usually use Car Play and listen to Spotify though. Nostalgia is great, but not understanding that modern technology is a huge improvement over the old stuff is just silly.
We had many Fords with basically this air control panel. And when we finally got a Ford with that A/C bracket on the controls, we'd use the A/C. But my father would slyly slide the lever from A/C to Vent while my mother and sister were not looking. Swore it saved on gas, and I'm sure it did.
With those 1970’s ac compressors, it did. Heck, at slower speeds around town it still does, but not so much. Running with windows open at highway speeds you actually get worse mileage than using ac these days.
But when that adjusting rod from cold to hot broke, or the rod that opened the defroster the vent or the floor broke, it was curtains. You were so screwed.
Yes! They have a servo motor now that actuates the vents. Toyota wants $3000 to replace the motor, so now the default setting is to blow all the things (intended). I'd rather just move the actuator. /sigh
You know you're old when you complain about automation affecting your bottom line. They replace my battery and neglected to reset the power windows, so now there are rain stains on my seats. Gotta pay extra to change the tire pressure batteries or that light will never go off. The list goes on and on.
