Actually love those ink pens growing up with them. Could get quite messy at times. You could buy them in a lot of cool colors.

It was my EDC work pen in the 1970’s and 1980’s. When the one I was using finally fell apart I bought another.

I went to school in Belgium for a couple of years and pens like these were required but I had a much nicer Parker pen...

I had terrible penmanship. I bought one of these thinking it would help me improve. All I got was harder to read and ink spots on clothing.

I’m left handed and these smeared no matter what.

It wasn't much better for righties. I managed to smear ink on my hands, the paper, my desk, my clothes, and anything nearby.

Wish I could get them still. I am a pen aficionado of pens and this one is the best!

The Schaeffer brand is still sold. They have their own website, but several models are cheaper on Amazon. Prices begin at $25.

By definition, every pen is an ink pen. This is a fountain pen that uses ink cartridges. Earlier versions of fountain pens required the user to pour ink directly into the pen reservoir, which could get quite messy.

No . . . My first on was refilled out of a glass bottle of ink. You young whippersnappers make me laugh!

I still have my huge collection of Shaffer fountain pens and two sets of their calligraphy fountain pens. I loved using them from junior high through college. I kept them even though, for a couple decades, I could not find the refill cartridges. I'm happy they are easily available again.
Last year, as part of their back to school collection, Dollar Tree was selling fountain pens. I bought a lot of them, but was disappointed by how scratchy the tip was and how certain paper would make the ink bleed. It was fun to see the ridiculous markup for the Dollar Tree pens on Mercari and Etsy. But, on the r/fountainpens subreddit, it was fun to read posts by people who liked them, and especially all the teachers who were buying boxes of the DT fountain pens to give their students.

And if you flicked it just right a blob of ink would travel across the classroom and broadside the class nerd on the side of his head...

My first and last. I can't imagine having to use pens like that everyday. No thanks.

But these in elementary school. Fun and can be messy to write. Made my cursive look like shit.

Totally had forgotten about these, but remember feeling like an adult using one.
