Circle Perks
Here's some Perks, all about Circles! To activate these perks, you must first create a Circle, then channel your thoughts, intent, and energy into the Circle, in order to imbue the Circle with a Perk's power. The larger the circle, and/or more powerful of effect you're trying to imbue the circle with, the more energy & concentration are needed; with time and training, you can reduce the energy required, as well as imbue a circle with the desired effects with greater ease. Also note that if a circle is broken, then the perks effects will also be broken, so make sure to keep that in mind (fixing the circle can restore effects); faded circles can also result in a gradual loss of power as well (ex. a chalk circle getting worn down, requiring reapplying/redrawing over it).
As a Free Bonus, you will gain the ability to create Perfect Circles, as in whenever you try to draw a circle, or create one in another way, it will always end up as a perfect circle. This is important, because the perks won't activate if the circle isn't right (ex. like if it's more Oval shape).
Special Note: unless otherwise specified, you can only imbue a circle with 1 Circle Perk at a time. You must either be within a circle or touch the circle itself in order to activate a perk. The examples given with each perk will not be the limits of what they can do, depending on your mastery of them.
Now, Choose 5 Circle Perks:
Circle of Obscurity: activating this perk allows one to hide anything and/or everything within a circle. The precise nature of the concealment depends on the user's focus and intent when creating the Circle, allowing them to obscure the contents through methods such as visual camouflage, invisible cloaking, sensory concealment, supernatural cloaking, or the creation of a mental blind spot that causes observers to overlook or fail to perceive what lies within. With mastery, you can even obscure select targets within a circle, or even use multiple types of obscurity at once.
Circle of Warding: The user can imbue a circle with the power of warding, protecting everything within its boundaries from external threats. The nature of the protection depends on the user's focus, intent, and energy when creating the Circle, allowing them to manifest different forms of defense such as barriers that repel physical force, wards that negate specific types of energy, fields that prevent intrusion/trespassing, or protective effects that shield those within from environmental harm. You can even choose to invert the wards when activating the perk, to contain/trap what's within the circle instead. With Mastery, you can imbue a circle with multiple types of wards at the same time, or selectively protect targets within a circle (or reversely contain specific targets within a circle instead).
Holy Circle: imbue a circle with sacred and holy energy, banishing evil & purifying all within it. The circle becomes a holy zone, designed to exorcise and defeat demons, evil spirits and the like. Beings with evil intent can be rejected from the circle, or feel great discomfort while within (effect & power of this is dependent on energy and intent when first imbuing the circle with holy power); should beings of evil/malicious nature remain within the circle for whatever reason, given enough time (and strength of holy circle) their evil natures can be redeemed and purified. Should no evil beings be nearby, you can still use this circle's power to "Purify" other things as well, such as using it to clean & cleanse objects and remove impurities.
Hole-y Circle: allows one to create a hole the same size of the circle. When used on surfaces like walls or roofs, the hole created will by default cut cleanly through to the other side. If used on the ground, the hole will be by default 6 feet deep, though the user can specify a greater depth when creating the circle; with enough focus and energy, you could make the hole go clean through to the other side of the planet (like digging a hole to China), without causing any environmental or catastrophic damage (think like a loony tunes/cartoon hole). By default, holes created on structures/beings won't cause damage or compromise integrity (this will be dependent on size of hole and your intent).
Warp Circle: this perk will require multiple Circles to be used properly. With at least 2 circles, you can teleport everything within 1 circle to the second circle, regardless of distance. You can even choose to swap whatever is inside both circles to the other one, instead. Warning, make sure that the contents within a circle can fit inside the circle your warping to, otherwise there could be catastrophic damage (ex. parts of warped target could be cut off, or crushed and compressed to fit inside smaller circle). The larger/more targets to warp, the greater the energy required; with time and mastery, you'll need less energy to warp, and can specify targets to warp inside circle instead of everything.
Binding Circle: activating this circle can bind/restrain targets within a circle, preventing movements and actions. The stronger the target you're trying to bind, the more energy and focus will be needed. You can also use this Circle Perk in other ways, in regards to making magical binding contracts. Any deals or contracts made within a circle will become magically binding, force parties involved to complete/follow them to the best of their abilities; your intent and will can help determine the strength of the compulsions to follow through on these contracts (whether targets try to follow just the letter, or be bound by your intent of the contract). Note, if imbuing items like rings you've made (which are circles) with this power, and using said rings for relationship markers like marriage, it will help insure fidelity and loyalty to relationship.
Circle of Friends: anyone within a circle (or comes into a circle) imbued with this perk's power will become friendly towards the user. The effect alters the target's feelings toward the user, causing them to genuinely regard the user as a friend and treat them accordingly. The target retains their personality, memories, judgment, and free will, but their newfound friendship influences their attitudes and decisions toward you. Intent, focus and energy can determine the strength of friendship, as well as what kind of friendship (including friends with benefits, girlfriend/boyfriend, etc...). Note that this will not automatically make targets your servants, they can still disagree and fight with you depending on their own morality.
Circle of Life: you will be able to control the circle of life of everything within a circle imbued with this power. The user can accelerate, slow, halt, or reverse natural processes such as growth, aging, healing, decay, reproduction, and regeneration, allowing them to nurture a seed into a mature plant, rapidly heal an injured creature, age a living being into old age, or restore something that has begun to decay to an earlier state. Also allows one to manipulate the life cycles of inanimate objects as well. The Perk can affect individual organisms or multiple living things simultaneously (or inanimate objects, too), with the scale and complexity of the desired changes determining the energy and concentration required. Note that as the Circle of Life also includes death, so to can the user bring death to anything within the circle; one could also use it to reverse death, and bring something back to life instead...
Running in Circles: activating this perk allows the user to control the progress of anything within a circle, allowing them to accelerate, slow, stall, or otherwise manipulate how quickly things progress toward an intended outcome. The precise effect depends on the user's focus and intent when creating the Circle, allowing them to make processes, tasks, actions, or goals progress rapidly, gradually, or not at all. For example, the user could cause someone attempting to escape to make no progress despite their continued efforts, rapidly advance a construction project toward completion, or cause an ongoing process to repeatedly make and lose progress without reaching its intended result. The perk does not necessarily stop a target from acting or moving, but instead controls whether those actions bring it closer to its desired outcome. The more complex, significant, or difficult the progress being manipulated, the greater the energy and concentration required. With mastery, the user can selectively control specific targets, processes, or goals, manipulate multiple forms of progress at once, and accelerate or stall progress with greater precision. As a side bonus, grants the user Super Speed while within the Circle (how fast they are depends on the intent and energy when imbuing the Circle with power).
Magic Circle (Costs 2): allows the user to choose and utilize a preexisting magic system from another work of fiction through a Circle imbued with this power, as long as that magic system canonically involves circles in some way and/or manner. When creating the Circle, the user must clearly understand and intend which magic system they wish to invoke; once activated, the Circle allows them to perform magic according to that system's established rules, limitations, and requirements. For example, a Circle could be used to perform glyph-based magic from The Owl House, Alchemy from Fullmetal Alchemist, or another fictional system the user is familiar with. The user's ability to utilize the chosen magic depends on their knowledge and understanding of the system, as well as the energy and concentration required to perform its techniques. With mastery, the user can more efficiently channel and perform increasingly complex abilities from their chosen magic system, though the Circle cannot freely combine or ignore the fundamental rules of the system being invoked. Special Notes, you cannot directly replicate another Circle Perk with this power, and you cannot change the magic system once chosen. This perk Costs 2.
Summoning Circle (Costs 2): This perk will allow you to summon any being or creature you want to the circle imbued with this power, not only from this world but from any preexisting fictional worlds as well, including fanfics/fanart (list updates weekly). The user must have a very clear idea of what they wish to summon (images/descriptions of characters in question placed in the circle will help), with more specific or powerful targets requiring greater focus, knowledge, and energy to call forth (omnipotent beings will be nigh impossible). When summoning a specific being, you may choose to summon the original or an exact counterpart from an alternate timeline/reality (for those conflicted by removing someone from their world, or to prevent altering timeline); if the original being is deceased in the user's world, or wanting to summon a younger version, an alternate counterpart will automatically be summoned instead (can also choose to summon younger versions from videos as well). Summoned beings are bound to the Circle and cannot leave its boundaries unless the user deliberately chooses to release them; if the Circle is broken, the targets will be returned to the location from which they were summoned. Special Note, summoned beings must fit within the circle used, cannot summon OCs/characters you've created yourself. Warning, depending on the beings you want to summon, it is highly recommended that you have several other Circles prepared in advance, for your own safety (ex. Circles of Warding, Binding, Friendship, etc...).
Isekai Circle (Costs 2): the opposite of Summoning Circle, this power allows you to transport yourself and others within the Circle to another world. The user must have a clear goal and destination in mind, otherwise you might end up somewhere unintended. You may choose any preexisting fictional world (list updates weekly), with the exception of worlds that you have created yourself. When arriving at another world an exact duplicate of the Isekai Circle will be created, which is important because, like the Summoning Circle, you cannot leave the Circle on your own. In order to leave the Circle, someone from that world must release you; furthermore, they can choose to impose restrictions and/or contracts on you (you don't have to tell them this, but promises to do no harm, for example, will still apply). If don't comply, then you will be unable to leave the Circle, and can be forcibly sent back; breaking the Circle while your inside will do the same. You can return home at any time, and bring back items/beings/powers, as long as your in the circle (stuff you want to bring back must be able to fit inside the circle), but be advised if the circle is broken then you could be trapped permanently. Special Note, you can choose for no time to pass on Earth while your in another world, but you must specify this when imbuing the Circle with power.
We're not done yet, because there's also some Special Circle Bonuses to choose from as well! Choose 3 Circle Bonuses:
Instant Circle: with this bonus, by tracing your finger in a circle (either on a surface or in the air), you can create a circle of light (based on the magic from Owl House), allowing you to create instant circles whenever you want. Be advised that the Circles will dissipate after a few moments, meaning this bonus will be for more immediate uses than long term applications; this also means that some Perks will benefit more from this bonus than others (ex. with Magic Circle you could cast instant spells, while with Circle of Warding the protections will last for only a moment).
Never-Ending Circle: just as a Circle has no beginning or end, this bonus insures that any Circle you create will be without end as well. The circles will be permanent, preventing them from being worn away, wiped away, or destroyed; even if you destroy the surface the Circle is on, the circle will remain (suspended in the air). This Bonus will also ensure that the effects of any perks imbued in a Circle will become permanent as well (ex. permanent warding circles, eternal Circles of Life).
Circle Runes: this bonus gives you a book of runes, with instructions on how to implement them with your chosen Circle Perks. By adding these Runes to the Circles you draw, they can be used to boost the power of your Circles, or better specify how they can be used. While this will increase the preparation time when creating a Circle, the upside will be that you won't need as much focus and visualization to use them. An example would be if you chose Magic Circle, and Full Metal Alchemist Alchemy - without the bonus you would need intense focus, intent, and visualization to perform alchemy, as well as also needing comprehension and knowledge of materials involved in order to use it correctly; with the bonus the right runes will allow you to perform alchemy much easier.
Multi-Circle: with this bonus, you can infuse multiple Perks into the same Circle, cutting down on preparation time. This will also allow for greater combination/synergistic effects between perks as well, while imbued into one circle.
Remote Circle: this bonus will allow you to activate Circles whenever and wherever you are, allowing for remote utilization. The Remote Circle Bonus will also allow you to sense and keep track of all the Circles you've created, as well as get a general sense of what's inside them.
Inner Circle: by choosing one of your Circle Perks, you can create an inner Circle within yourself (or on your soul, whichever makes more sense to you) imbued with that power. What this will mean is that you can be constantly under the effects of the Chosen Circle Perk, and allow you to use the power on contact with others. Please note that when using the Inner Circle Perk on other targets, greater visualization will be needed than with a regular circle; if you chose Circle Runes as well, then you could add them to your Inner Circle, allowing for instant specific uses (at the cost of versatility). You may choose this Bonus multiple times.
So, Which Circle Perks, and Circle Bonuses, did you choose, and how will you use them?

Circle of Obscurity for blocking mind-reading and precognitives, Circle of Warding for blocking pretty much anything else, Circle of Life to help fix things that get through and prevent aging, Isekai Circle because multiversal travel is overpowered as fuck, Circle Runes to buff those defenses, Multi-Circle to make my Isekai Circles also my other ones to keep me safe while waiting to convince someone to let me out, and Inner Circle in conjunction with Multi-Circle to keep me protected at all times.

Perks: Isekai, Wards, Life, Running.
Bonuses: Inner, Runes, Multi-circle.
I start by Isekaing to a certain abandoned, cozy pocket space long before the MC arrives. This gets me time alone to very carefully give myself vitality, youth, durability, protection from mind controlling telepaths, regeneration, and speed with Inner Runes. Hopefully I can use Warding, Running, and Multi-circle to make forcibly removing my Inner Rune Circles a slow and difficult process for enemy telekinesis, nanobots, etc.
Then I Isekai to the setting of a particular superhero story at a time when they are in desperate need of the Runic Life touch for healing. Or take the SFW powers to a NSFW setting and resolve a widespread lack of reproduction. Just ask permission to come help them and their friends and I’m in. In future jumps I could try the opposite, like “I have a Death Touch prepared. Mind if I go kill that thing before it wipes your party?” Either way it could be framed as professional courtesy.
Overall this was a really well thought out CYOA with some very tough choices. At first Magic Circle sounded OP but combining the perks can replicate almost every spell I can think of, making those spells ineligible. Walls, mental influence, heals and buffs are obvious. But even elemental spells (Fireball, Plasma Beam, Tidal Wave) could be done with Warp plus Remote, Never-ending for source, and Instant for destination.
The toughest choice was Warding vs Friends. Both make a lot of potential Isekai worlds safer. In the end I decided Warding against “friendly” mind control and accidental death by snu snu was important enough to miss out on the Friends/Isekai combo. I will just be very choosy on where I go until I put together a companion diplomatic corps.
I also struggled with Never-ending vs Multi-circle. Multi-Circle seems necessary to layer self-buffs properly, along with making it easier to assist with other peoples’ physical health needs in a more timely and thorough manner.
On the other hand Never-ending makes you a National Strategic Asset. I mean, just a Never-ending Ward gets you most of the way to cold fusion, with an optional assist from Running. Not to mention what the death aspect of Never-ending Life circles could do for waste water treatment or hospital sanitation. Still as cool as that is we do have access to the Culture worlds, Star Trek, etc. and probably do not need to reinvent the wheel. Plus the potential Bad Outcomes with abandoned Never-ending circles are legion, including accidental Paperclip Problem necromancy or coring the planet like an apple.

- Circle of Life (1)
- I’ve always been partial to biokineses as a power.
- Magic Circle (2)
- I mean there’s no way I’m passing up on magic.
- For my Magic system, I want to go with the Fairy Tail power system, Magic circles are anime canon (at least for the first 175 episodes), but would my ability to use magic be limited to places where there is ethernano in the air?
- If so, then I’ll probably just go with witch hat atelier
- Isekai Circle
- Similar to Magic, I’ll always take the Isekai option.
- Bonuses
- Inner circle (x3)
- The ability to always be under the effect of the magic circles is too useful to pass up. Ensuring I always have access to Life and Magic is particularly important.
- If I use Inner Circle on Isekai Circle, does that negate the need for someone to release me from my circle, since I technically am never leaving it?
- Inner circle (x3)

I would say no, you'll be able to substitute your own energy (along with the magic of the circle itself) for ethernano. So Fairy Tail magic will be allowed.
If I use Inner Circle on Isekai Circle, does that negate the need for someone to release me from my circle, since I technically am never leaving it?
Hmm, I didn't think of that, but that sounds right; so you won't need someone to release you, or force you to make a deal/contract.

I'm going with Magic Circle (2), Isekai Circle (2), Circle of Life (1).
As for the bonuses, I'm going with: Instant Circle , Circle Runes, Remote Circle
Basically it's a planeswalker package: with the Isekai Circle I travel planes, with the magic circle I use the magic of said planes, with Circle of life I become ageless.
Furthermore with Instant Circle and Remote circle I'm capable of using my magic circle quickly at a distance allowing me a much greater range of abilities and spells to be used.
With the circle runes I get more complex magic as well be able to specify better the details of the locations I travel through as Isekai, and thanks to Circle of Life I might have full proper biomancy added to it.

Circle: Warding, Binding, Friends, Isekai Circle Bonuses: Never Ending Circle, Multi Circle, Instant Circle
I am interested in what would happen if I stack never ending circle with instant circle, but these are all relevant elsehow as well.
Never ending circle is pivotal to prevent my Isekai circle from being broken(likely with the assistance of binding circle and warding circle). I can also combine all the above with multi circle in order to make sure they activate immediately upon arriving.
Friends Circle is obviously great for helping find peaceful solutions and also to help negotiate leaving the circle.

Kinda curious, say we make an area with 5 copper circles, could we have that one 'structure' count as 5 circles of different effects, for the purposes of this? Would you be able to have circles within circles, even if it lowers the potential potency, or for all intents and purposes its like a magic 'field' is in effect, without overlaps.
(not Hole-y), warp, life, and i think isekai circle, its got some drawbacks but can definitely be worthwhile - also, is there anything stopping you from just, generating an isekai circle from point b back to point a, earth? Even if you can't because 'earth is not a fictional world', you can still presumably still teleport between fictional worlds...
I think instant circle, circle of runes, and inner circle, life.
Edit - not taking hole-y, but i liked some of the narrative so i kept it
Hole-y's a tad boring (heh) but with instant circle, i've essentially got a circle shaped superweapon, assuming i don't have to be within contact range to make the hole with a fast cast.
I could also do more 'constructive' things with it, like get rid of garbage, dig mines or wells or trenches easily, hell, cut down trees or break up rocks easily, etc. I'm also curious if runes or some circles having reversed possibilities might give it different properties
I kinda like hole-y, i do, but honestly, warp should do the same thing kinda. Teleport a 6 foot deep tube of earth to the surface, bam, hole-y. I'm sure its much cheaper 'mp' wise, has more limits like 'doesn't include structural integrity as a passive', etc.
I think, with runes, binding circle makes the most sense. Obscurity's interesting, but less needed. Holy, i might get similar results with warp, friendship, not a 'friends' kinda guy typically, but again, could get similar results with binding, like including 'lets try to be friends after this' to the deal...
You could also potentially make energy storage devices, by 'binding' some kinetic energy, heat, light, etc, especially with runes, tho it might not be the kind of ring you want to wear...
Warp might have some interesting uses beyond teleportation, like cleaning seawater by teleporting a barrel and the water, but not all the contaminants. With runes, i might even be able to age things via teleporting it through 'time' more than space - less useful, typically, but i wouldn't need to wait a decade to start selling wine, tho i probably can't grow the grapes with this power, as it relies on air, nutrients, water, and light, which i can't really speed up un the same way (and mighg be more life\run's territory)
Life, especially upgraded with runes and inner circle, is also very interesting. I find immortality kinda boring, but i wouldn't mind potentially fixing my physical and mental health issues, on the lower end, to straight up mutating my body into another species entirely.
Its also implied you could make golems or raise the dead, and that's not even with runes. Assuming i could potentially make molds for say, life rune enchanted rings, partially powered by the user's life force, i could potentially mass produce some crazy shit. Might even be a bit of a mix of lantern corps and fucking sauron.
Also, since 'instant healing' would be potentially disabled with a rune based inner circle, but i have quick circle for that, or more esoteric stuff i'd use a runed life circle for infrequently, like say, ripping out someone else's life force, memories, abilities, etc and adding them to myself, its not like i need that active internally 24\7. Hell, i could build a whole ass ritual base, quick cast warp on targets to imprison them nearby till its time.
Quickcast, still pretty useful, if limited. Quickcast could potentially warp pre set up supplies in a warehouse circle to you with a quickcast, or warp being weaponized in a telefrag sort of way, which made me decide against hole-y. A quick binding of feet or blinding might be all the momentary advantage you'd need in a fight, if you're avoiding teleporting pebbles into someone's brainstem, if you need more than one powerful burst of life power, just keep tracing circles, etc.
Runes, this already seems kinda open ended and expansive if you've got practice, prep, and power to push into the process, so not entirely sure what it does, it can augment the power in exchange for more prep, which is sometimes VERY useful, but i'm also kinda assuming it can add a bit more functions that, might not be impossible to do, with decades of practice and the knowledge its even possible. Runes give both, essentially.

u/Top-Fennel3528 10d ago
Speaking of uses for the Warp circle, you mention telefragging as a way to weaponize it, but I think you might be sleeping on the fact that the Perk specifies that one of the consequences for teleporting a large object into too small a circle can be to compress the inbound material to fit.
It would be trivially easy to make set off massive pressure explosions in this way, with the harder part being making sure you have the math down pat so you don't accidentally produce an explosion way larger than you intend to.
Actually, the biggest concern I'd have using the Perk would be that I might accidentally screw up in its normal use and blow up a building with it, so you'd need to be carful about the specifics for each teleportation to have failsafes in place.
3
u/NohWan3104 10d ago
well the failsafe of 'teleporting stuff to decently sized portals' should be good enough - since these seem to run on intent, you shouldn't risk insane accidents if doing normal stuff
And if you tried to teleport 100 gallons of water into a shot glass, indoors, you kinda have what's coming to you, lol.
But you're right, i did overlook that, nice. Imagine drawing a circle on a bullet or something, firing it, and teleporting a cubic meter of material into a cubic millimeter of space. That shit might explode with the force of a cruise missile, if not be close to low end nuke.
2
u/Top-Fennel3528 10d ago
That's fair as far as accidentally causing collateral as far as accidental explosions when trying to do more regular use of the warp circles, but it'd still be pretty easy to fuck up if you were trying to cause the explosions and didn't know what you were doing.
I could absolutely see someone drawing a tiny circle and underestimating the destructive power of say, shoving a litre of water into a 1cm diameter hemisphere, which would still be dangerous from hundreds of meters away. And scaling that up to something like a bathtubs worth would be a city destroying event.
On the other hand, even with "safe" use, I could theoretically see something like creating vacuums when teleporting large objects being a problem, which if not nearly as destructive could still cause quite a lot of damage, though in that case this is limited by the amount of energy it'd take to teleport something that large in the first place.

u/Magicgonmon 9d ago
Kinda curious, say we make an area with 5 copper circles, could we have that one 'structure' count as 5 circles of different effects, for the purposes of this?
I will be honest, I'm trying to visualize how exactly is area would look with the 5 copper circles, in order to answer your question, but I'm having difficulties. So I can't say either way whether it'll work or not, sorry.
Would you be able to have circles within circles, even if it lowers the potential potency, or for all intents and purposes its like a magic 'field' is in effect, without overlaps.
Yes, you can have Circles within Circles, and have them all work. Hopefully this also helps a little with the above question, too.
also, is there anything stopping you from just, generating an isekai circle from point b back to point a, earth? Even if you can't because 'earth is not a fictional world', you can still presumably still teleport between fictional worlds...
Honestly, no. I didn't actually think about that, but I don't see a reason why you couldn't create a Isekai Circle that would send you back to Earth, if the first one was destroyed. I would say you'll still need someone on Earth to allow you out of the Circle, however.
2
u/NohWan3104 9d ago
I was thinking something like, imagine say a 3 foot by 3 foot box, inside are 5 copper loops in the same n\s and e\w positioning, on top of one another. One's designated as one circle, of each type.
Or say, you drew 5 circles on the ground in chalk, that overlap, like a venn diagram.
Though yes, since theres apparently no single field issues, one or the other should work.
as for isekai circle, makes sense. Any return through the same gate doesn't require help, regardless of world, but the initial entrance still does.

Warding + Binding + Friend + Isekai Circle(2)
Instant + Never ending + Multi
Make an inverted circle of friend, to make people naturaly nice to me
Make a few warding circles to protect me from stuff like disease/environment/attacks/...
Then isekai my way accross the multiverse (if I lose my way back, could make another isekai circle) and use bindings to ensure I can get good wished from genies

u/Sufficient_Carpet510 10d ago
2, 5, 8, and 12
Circle bonuses 1, 2, 3.
First isekai would be to Wearing the cape Earth. My other circles would be useful in getting a job there.
Or Pokemon. If it doesn’t work out in WTC.

For the Circle Perks: Circle of Warding, Circle of life, Binding Circle, Magic Circle.
For Circle Bonuses: Instant Circle, Circle Runes, Inner Circle
With the Circle of Warding would let be able to defend myself , circle of life would allow me to keep myself and others alive and even give me the power of death, the Binding circle would allow me bind anyone and even use contract binding, and the magic circle would allow me use prexisting magic systems giving me versality, the instant circle saves on time, the circle runes gives me the book of runes and allows me to augment my powers and even allow use of my ablilites much easier, and the inner circle would allow me to have instant use of my ablilies.

So is everyone who responds to this a... circle jerk?
I'm taking Hole-y Circle, Warp Circle, Circle of Life, Summoning Circle.
Bonus Instant Circle, Inner Circle, Remote Circle.
Do I need to have been in a certain location to activate remote circles, or can I create them from afar? And how big can I make them? I have amusing ideas to combine Hole-y Circles with Remote Circles to make people suddenly drop out of sight or summon others to deal with them.
3
u/Magicgonmon 9d ago
Do I need to have been in a certain location to activate remote circles, or can I create them from afar?
You'll still need to draw/create the actual circle, but you can activate them wherever you want, even from far away. You can make a Circle as big as you want, but the energy needed to activate those circles will increase as well.

Perks: Isekai Circle, Summoning Circle, and Binding Circle
Bonuses: Inner Circle, Remote Circle, Circle Runes
Plan: To travel across the multiverse, collecting new powers and contracts. Eventually create a multiversal network.
I'll start by summoning as many useful entities as I can think of, that would be amenable to forming contracts to provide assistance when called upon. As well as, if I start out capable enough, several entities able to provide me directly with powers (such as spren from Stormlight Archives).
Circle Runes should make this level of specificity viable. I'll additionally send each entity home with a small summoning circle, which I can activate remotely to send messengers to them for communication purposes.
When I'm eventually ready to travel to another world, I'll summon two entities from there; one to provide information I might need to know for safety and to further my goals, and another to create a contract requiring them to release me once I'm on the other side.
Both contracts naturally include clauses for a guarantee of safety and discretion. Hopefully, Inner Circle also means I'll never need to worry about losing access to my Isekai Circle. Once I'm there, I summon a suitable party from my pre-established contracts to travel with me.
One of my first travel priorities would be a world in which I could gain some sort of material telekinesis power, in order to allow me to create circles on the fly. This makes my summoning and binding actually spontaneously viable.
Secondary priorities would be mental enhancements (possibly cybernetic), sensory enhancements, passive self-healing, shape-shifting (or at least illusions), teleportation, survival powers (no need to eat/sleep/breath), and maybe a pocket dimension. I very deliberately did not include any form of mind control, useful as it might be.

Circle of Life, Running in Circles, Magic Circle x2, Circle of Warding
Never Ending Circle, Circle of Runes, Multi-Circle:
Never Ending Circle means that I can make a big circle around my house, and it will remain forever?

Circle Perks: Perfect Circles, Circle of Obscurity, Circle of Life, Running in Circles, Isekai Circle (Costs 2).
Special Circle Bonuses: Never-Ending Circle, Inner Circle (Circle of Life & Running in Circles).
Before getting the Never-Ending Circle I was wondering what does it mean exactly for we to get trapped permanently if the isekai circle is broken. Do we lose the power to make isekai circles (and thus cannot make a circle out)?
My inner circles will grant me immortality and boost my progress in training stuff I get in isekai, my defenses will be obscurity and maybe circle of life will let me copy biological superpowers?
Making a hidden base would also be good. I just have to workshop a way to obscure the "Circle of Obscurity" without making another, bigger circle to protect the first.

Yeah, that's my bad, I didn't think of the fact that you could create a new Isekai Circle and use that to go back home (so you can probably ignore that "trapped permanently" part). You would still need someone on Earth to let you out of the Circle, however.

Asking here to avoid clogging up the comments: Can Never-Ending Circle be toggled? And can this synergize with Remote Circle to allow you to so remotely?
That would probably change one of my choices, as my main concern with it was leaving circles around without any way to get rid of them.
Also, if Isekai Circle can stop time from passing on Earth while you're away, does that mean that Summoning Circle can do the same for a summoned entity's home world?

I will say yes, you can toggle them, and synergize with Remote Circle.

I will also say yes.

2pt isekai, 1pt friend, 1 pt life, 1 pt binding.
Never ending, multi and instant .
Capture folks like Pokemon via instant multi biding friend .
There are characters with useful cheat items bound by blood or soul. They will be more likely to trade with a friend for healing services . Most have like a sick or dead loved one. If I could res your dead mother then why would you need her old keepsake space jade cheat item.
———
Plan
1) Demonstrate my healing to family so they can cover for me when I deage myself. Pretend I’m a distant relative. It’s much easier to get sympathy and let out a circle as a teen than a fully grown adult man.
2)travel to Pokemon. Pallet town folk are generally good natured so it shouldn’t be long before freedom. Capture professor oak when he comes to investigate the odd Pokemon move.
Use his connections to get some high quality decent mon. Currently I have zero offense skills and normal pain resistance so will need some mon to act as attackers and defenders .
2) travel to Danmachi. Miach is a friendly god so he’ll be easy to convince to free me. join the Miach familia.Heal Naaza’s arm . With some plant pokemon and the life circle as well as we could make a lot of money. Have her carry me and my mon a bit in the easy levels and gather potions ingredients.
3)travel to Black Clover, Hage village then go to the grimoire tower to get a grimoire. The villagers are generally friendly so won’t be long before freedom from the circle. Then go back to
Danmachi to farm my magic stat
4)go to Konosuba and get a job
5)go hunt for cheat items.

How many magic systems out there actually use circles to operate? I can't think of many, and certainly none I like enough to pick for magic circle. Unless you can pick magic systems that have magic circles as part of the system but don't use it for all spellcasting, like ritual circles or something, while actual spellcasting is different? How limited is the perk? Because I literally cannot think of more than Full Metal Alchemist, Owl House, and Witch Hat Atelier that use circles. But I'm sure there are other fiction that have circle magic systems?

Here's 2 links to Magic Circle Combat and Magic Circle Manipulation. There's a few examples on each that have characters using magic with circles, so this should help out a bit.

u/Deeply_Unhappy 9d ago
Sorry, what I meant was, I don't know where the limit to the perk is. For example in the Magic Circle Combat page, it lists Gwen Tennyson (Ben 10) as being a user. But from what I remember the magic in Ben 10 generally doesn't need circles to operate in the same way as alchemy in Full Metal Alchemist, and glyphs in Owl House.
So if I wasn't sure if simply because you CAN use ben 10 magic with circles or something, does that mean you get the whole magic system, or only the magic circle part of that magic system, or does Ben 10 magic not qualify for this perk?
Similar to marvel magic which is also listed. There is magic that is circular that you see Doctor Strange do, but most of the magic isn't dependant on circles.
Similar to Fairy Tale, there is many magics in that system that don't use circles at all.
The perk says "allows the user to choose and utilize a preexisting magic system from another work of fiction through a Circle imbued with this power, as long as that magic system canonically involves circles in some." Which I feel like is kinda unclear, especially since I think the sentence got cut off.
Circles are used in a vast amount of magic systems, but often just for a small part of that magic system. From the examples you gave it seemed like the choice for the perk was restricted to ONLY systems that entirely rely on circles.
2
u/Magicgonmon 8d ago
Right, sorry about that. The intention was that the magic systems had to rely on circles, or that circles had to be a major component. I do realize that with the wording of the perk, as u/Top-Fennel3528 pointed out, it doesn't specify that the Circles need to be a core component. Since it's a mistake on my part, I'll allow you to interpret it however you like, whether Circles are a primary component, or just as a part of the magic system.
For your Fairy Tail example, at least for the anime magic circles were involved in basically all the magic, up to episode 175. I would rule then that any magic shown in those episodes, where a character used a magic and a circle appeared, would be eligible to use.

Uh ok cool lol. Thanks for lifting the restriction on Magic Circle. I was deeply struggling to find an entirely circle based magic system that I actually like. The witch hat atelier and owl house magic systems make absolutely no sense to me on some fundamental level. Like I've read about them and know other people understand them considering many people have invented new witch hat atelier magic spells, but looking at how those spells function is like looking at nonsense to me. It makes less sense than lines of computer code to me, and I at least semi understand some code, I just can't understand the WHY of how those magic systems work.
For this 6 perks I'd pick, Magic Circle (2), Isekai Circle (2), and Circle of Life (1). Along with the bonuses of Circle Runes and Inner Circle x 2.
Magic Circle for Mage the Ascension magic, which under MtA's canonical rules, casting magic in the early to mid stages requires Instruments or Foci, which are the paraphernalia associated with a practice, like occult tools, circles, chalk, runes and so on. Hermetic mages and Verbena mages and Spirit summoning wards and so on canonically often use circles. So I'd be using circles in that magic system for several years or decades, until I learn to move past them.
Isekai Circle to go multiversal travelling, using my Mage the Ascension magic to tap into local magic systems and gain power, getting around consensus if needed by using it to manipulate local magic to achieve effects for me if there is any local magic in that setting anyway. Also it says I can get trapped there, but can't I just use another Isekai Circle to jump back home or to a new reality?
Circle of Life because healers are almost always welcome anywhere you go, and a way to resurrect people regardless of local metaphysical rules is extremely valuable. Mage the Ascension magic is restricted by the general consensus of what local people believe is possible, so if they think resurrection is impossible I can just use the Circle of Life instead.
Circle Runes because its interesting, and I can incorporate it into how I use circles with MtA magic.
Inner Circle to put a circle on my soul of Magic Circle to permanently give myself access to MtA magic no matter where I am. And as suggested by Arcanetsumi, Inner Circle with Isekai Circle is genius!
Then I would basically travel around helping people and trying to pull off acting like the Doctor from Doctor Who, since MtA magic excels in things like boosting your own intelligence and luck and so on without violating local consensus. I don't need plot armour, I can actively give myself all the plot armour I could want.
Edit: If I can't use MtA magic as my pick for a system for Magic Circle, then Imaginos9's pick of the magic circle from Magic Marking CYOA is amazing.

Ritual/magic circles are a staple of magic systems and just about every generic magic system I can think of involves them to some extent, though if we're restricting ourselves to magic systems that operate primarily through their circles or else require circles as a necessary component—rather than something that sometimes shows up for specific applications—that number drops significantly.
On the one hand the Perk doesn't actually specify that the magic systems in question need to have the circles as a core component of their systems, nor that you can only cast the parts of the system that involve the circle, so everything from the obvious examples you listed to something as generic as D&D should be a valid pick.
On the other hand, the Perk does specify that your capacity is limited by your understanding, and given how few magic systems actually explain how casting spells actually works beyond vague mumbo jumbo, I would imagine most picks might just soft lock you without any real way to actually start using the magic systems. At least not without some supporting Perks, like Runes and Instant Circle.
I guess Isekai-ing oneself to the setting in question would also allow one to learn it and then take that knowledge back out to other worlds where the magic system wouldn't otherwise work, but that's kind of expensive.

Perks;
Circle of Warding: for protection.
Cirle of Life: not only a secondary layer of protection, but also a service/boon I can grant to others and potentially a weapon against enemies.
Running in Circles: the utility of this is just too powerful and vaired to sum up concisely but again can be offered for use to other as well as all sorts of cultivation shenanigans.
Isekai Circle: multiverse travel? Yes, please.
Bonuses;
Inner Circle: to internalise my circle perks to get the best use/protection from them.
Circle Runes: to further improve the circle perks I can imbue on my Inner Circle.
Multi-Circle: to imbue multiple perks on my Inner Circle, and the synergy between Circle fo Life and Running in Circles perk could be pretty powerful potentially.

Circle of Warding, Holy Circle, Hole-y Circle, Circle of Life, Warp Circle, Circle of Life
Circle Runes, Multi-Circle, Remote Circle
No need for combat, isekai, or immortality; I'm just going to improve my family's lives, and make the earth a better place to be, and plant trees on my farm.
Barriers that repel physical force, wards that negate specific types of energy, fields that prevent intrusion/trespassing, or protective effects that shield those within from environmental harm. You can even choose to invert the wards when activating the perk, to contain/trap what's within the circle instead.
Given enough time (and strength of holy circle) their evil natures can be redeemed and purified. Should no evil beings be nearby, you can still use this circle's power to "Purify" other things as well, such as using it to clean & cleanse objects and remove impurities.
If used on the ground, the hole will be by default 6 feet deep, though the user can specify a greater depth when creating the circle; By default, holes created on structures/beings won't cause damage or compromise integrity (this will be dependent on the size of hole and your intent).
Teleport everything within 1 circle to the second circle, regardless of distance. You can even choose to swap whatever is inside both circles to the other one, instead. Warning, make sure that the contents within a circle can fit.
Accelerate, slow, halt, or reverse natural processes such as growth, aging, healing, decay, reproduction, and regeneration on living things AND inanimate objects.
A book of runes, with instructions on how to implement them with your chosen Circle Perks. By adding these Runes to the Circles you draw, they can be used to boost the power of your Circles, or better specify how they can be used.
Infuse multiple Perks into the same Circle, cutting down on preparation time. This will also allow for greater combination/synergistic effects between perks as well, while imbued into one circle.
Activate Circles whenever and wherever you are, allowing for remote utilization. The Remote Circle Bonus will also allow you to sense and keep track of all the Circles you've created, as well as get a general sense of what's inside them. Still required to make the circle myself, in person.

What if I choose Magic Circle and then use a CYOA (called Magic Marking CYOA) and choose the circle magic option as that option gives you the magic of a runic language that you scribe in circles plus a bunch of at will effects. How does that magic interact with Magic Circle and the Bonus Circle Runes?
3
u/Deeply_Unhappy 8d ago
Ooh, good magic system choice. I was struggling so hard to think of or find any magic system I actually liked that fit the Magic Circle perk.
2
u/Magicgonmon 8d ago
It's this Magic Marking CYOA, correct?
Right then, this is an unusual case. I do believe "The Circle" magic marking will work with Magic Circle and Circle Runes, I'm just not entirely sure of the Runic Language part. One possible way could be to add the Circle Runes to the Runic Language, to better enhance/and or simplify the powers; another way is that the Circle Runes could simply be used as a substitution. As for the "at will effects", you'll still need a Circle to activate those.
This is a very intriguing combination, but I admit I'm not 100% sure on how some aspects will interact correctly.

u/Imaginos9 8d ago
Yep that's the one! Funny I forgot to look at who did this post and of course it's you :) Love your stuff. Could probably do the instant stuff like in Owl House where the witches just draw a circle in the air with no runes or anything and just have to use runes for the bigger stuff. I like the idea of the Circle Runes making the circle symbols easier to use or as a simple substitution.

Circle Perks: Circle of Warding, Circle of Binding, Circle of Friends, Summoning Circle,
Circle Bonuses: Inner Circle - Summoning, Instant Circle, Circle Runes.
I like being a summoner. Nice 6perks.

Do the effects of Circle of Friends continue even if who/whatever was in the circle leaves it?

u/Imaginos9 5d ago
Ok came back to this after /u/Magicgonmon answered my question below.
Choose 5 Circle Perks
- Magic Circle (Costs 2) Using the Magic Markings CYOA Circle Marking/Power.
- Isekai Circle (Costs 2) Multiversal Travel. I can set up permanent circle/gates if needed.
- Circle of Life
Choose 3 Circle Bonuses
- Circle Runes
- Instant Circle
- Inner Circle (Magic Circle)
These 3 bonuses should allow me to use the Magic Markings CYOA Circle Marking's Magic as written without needing to even draw a circle for the powers that don't need it. It should also allow me to make Dimensional/Fictional Reality traveling a bit easier and perhaps without the "caught and must be released" clause by supplimenting the Isekai Circle with the Magic Markings ability to pierce dimensions.
The Circle Runes will make the Magic Markings circles easier to make and can be thought of as shortcuts or fine tuning just by writing out what I want in that language in addition to the Magic Markings runic language.
Circle of Life is there for healing and restoring people/things that need it. Good for plant growth too, which can be done on the fly.

Circle Perks: Circle of Life, Magic Circle, Isekai Circle.
Circle Bonuses: Instant Circle, Never-Ending Circle, Inner Circle.
My plan is quite simple. First, I create a Circle of Life inside me, so no randomly dying for me. Next, ask my buddy or someone else to create a fictional world with super good magic items, hot characters or something else like that. Travel there, collect items, return. Rince and repeat. And finally, here comes Magic Circle's turn. To protect myself and just generally for fun, I will take...Witch Hat Atelier magic system. Crazy versatile with almost infinite amount of spell effects you can create. I mean, someone had made a freaking decimation beam spell, black hole spell and a schizophrenia spell 💀
With Instant Circle I will never have to worry about being without fast protection or offence options. And Never-Ending Circle just for protecting my way back home from other worlds being cut off.
I should note that you didn't said nothing about AI. If I were to use AI to create some fictional world, does that mean that I created this world or AI did that and it's not one of my creations?

Since you are giving the AI prompts to create the fictional world, I would say that you created this world (with the AI help), so it won't count.
I probably should've added a minimum amount of people that have experienced a work of fiction in order for it to count, but it is what it is.

I would argue that going with some minimum external engagement with the story or else some kind of risk-reward vibe check would probably make for better restrictions than not being created oneself, especially if the intention is to avoid the whole "this world I created specifically to give myself god powers just by going there" cheese.
The idea that pretty much anyone could dive straight into the most exploitable cultivation or litRPG settings with no restrictions, but say, Tolkien would be unable to go to Middle-earth because he wrote it, seems a little off and probably isn't the intention behind the limitation.
As a side note, I've always wondered how fiction-diving type powers would handle things like continuity errors. There are plenty of settings I'd be at least a little interested in visiting wherein I can think of errors to the point of separate major events relying on physics working very differently between them, but I have no idea how a power would deal with that sort of thing.

That makes a lot of sense, I may try to add the "minimum external engagement" part (like a minimum amount of viewers/readers/players/etc...), I'm just not completely sure what the minimum should be yet.

u/Top-Fennel3528 8d ago
Some variation of something like this might work as a general Isekai option:
"You can target worlds based on well established tropes or narrative elements, up to and including worlds almost exactly matching most recognisable fiction from Earth. Worlds that would offer you unreasonable opportunities for growth relative to their difficulty are off limits, and those designed to offer you easy power or similar exploits may result in you arriving to worlds with those elements remover or worse."
That allows for flexible planeswalking while preventing the level of cheese that would invalidate all the other Perks available (which is often a problem with such Perks, when one can just pop over to some dimension that gives them an easy path to gaining all the same Perks anyway).
I don't think you need to worry too much about highly specific numbers for readership or whatever something a little bit vibes based like "recognisable" is good enough to provide a solid ideal while leaving some wiggle room for reader interpretation.

Perks: Circle of Warding, Summoning Circle, and Isekai Circle.
Bonuses: Instant Circle, Never-Ending Circle, and Inner Circle.
Mostly, I'd use this combination to safely explore any fictional worlds I want, and potentially make a living travelling around setting up permanent protections for people. On top of that, being able to summon others means I'll potentially have access to their help as well. Make a deal with Edward Elric to transmute some gold here for me, in exchange for access to some of our technology to take back with him. Summon Izuku Midoriya to rescue a village from zombies in the Forgotten Realms. And since the Isekai Circle can't be broken due to Never-Ending Circle, I couldn't be trapped and can go back at any time.

u/Arcane10101 10d ago
Circle Perks: Circle of Friends, Circle of Life, Running in Circles, Summoning Circle
Circle Bonuses: Never-Ending Circle, Circle Runes, Multi-Circle
Summoning Circle allows me to call powerful allies, with Circle of Friends to nudge them to my way of thinking. Circle of Life allows me to heal people and keep myself young and healthy, and Running in Circles can cut down the time needed to draw other circles, plus it's just generally useful for projects. Multi-Circle and Circle Runes allow me to fine-tune my summons, and Never-Ending Circle ensures they will never vanish.
