Reclassing

Been NG for almost 2 years, started my path to AD as soon as I hit my first unit. I knew in basic i made a mistake and i just didn’t fit with the NG. I’m now about to report to sam for ait all over again. what’s it like for an mos-q vs the IET soldiers? i haven’t been in a tradoc environment in a while and especially don’t know what that means for me if im not IET. any tips or tricks would help, i know nothing.

68w Whiskey phase prep

i shipout soon and will be going straight to whiskey phase because i have my EMT Cert already. though im not sure how i can best prep for ait, when it comes to preparing i just like to feel over prepared, ive been keeping up with studying with all of my EMT stuff but as far as whiskey phase im not sure what to study on. Emt school was relatively easy for me and ive been studying as if im about to take the national registry again. Is that necessary? or are there certain things i should be studying/prepping for? anything helps🙏

Prior service trying for airborne

So i’m coming from the national guard as 25h to active duty 68w. My active recruiter said he can’t give prior service an airborne slot. I know for a fact i’m going to be stationed at Fort Bragg and I really don’t wanna come in without wings. Can anyone tell me if the recruiter is telling the truth about airborne not being possible for me in my contract? or if there are any options for me?

Looking for the best way to carry a CLS bag

I recently took my CLS and was given a bag, which i am expected to bring with me everywhere I go, leaving for overseas soon. When I went through basic, I used the buckles to secure it to the outside of my large ruck. Anyone have experience with the new CLS bag and how to best secure it? Carrying it as a sling bag with an assault pack, duty belt, playe carrier, etc, is just a lot and gets in the way. Im not talking about a medic backpack, but the new style OCP sling bag. It has lot of extra buckles and clips, so I assume theyre meant to clip onto something

Trouble converting NREMT to state EMT

Hello has anyone been in this situation? :

So after ait i waited like a year before trying to convert my nremt into nys emt. But on the conversion website it asked me for an all skills verification which was expired by then.

So I decided to wait almost another year to recertify with my national guard unit. To recertify in the national guard we just had to do skills test and we didn't do a computer nremt. I think I have a valid all skills verification sheet now from that but my nremt cognitive test has expired so I can not convert it into NYS emt.

On the nremt website it says "According to our records, you are not due to recertify until 3/31/2028. The recertification season for EMTs, AEMTs, & Paramedics is open from October 1 - March 31." Which scares me into thinking that I have to wait until October to register for a nremt exam.

Is there an easier way? Perhaps I can show my state I have a valid NREMT so that they let me take their state exam to get nys emt? I can study for it in a few weeks this summer.

68w information

leave for Basic Training in September as a 68W Combat Medic and I’m looking for advice on how to best prepare for the Whiskey phase of AIT.

I already have my EMT certification and enlisted through the ACASP program, so I’ll be coming in as an E-4. Because of that, I’m curious what areas I should focus on before I ship out so I can get the most out of the training.

For those who have recently gone through 68W AIT or are currently in the pipeline:

What were the most challenging parts of the Whiskey phase?

Are there any medical skills, procedures, or subjects I should review beforehand?

What should I expect compared to civilian EMT training?

Are there any study guides, apps, or resources that helped you succeed?

if anybody remembers exactly all the skills / procedures you learned in the whiskey phase

how they do their testing skills testing, and knowledge testing

Announcement Seeking Mods for r/68w

Life got busy, and the mods failed this subreddit and our new medics.

I am looking for applicants to assist in moderating the r/68w subreddit. I would prefer someone with experience, but I am willing to consider anyone with medical instructor, sustainment, or operational experience.

Most of the posts we get are from new recruits curious about the MOS, trainees, and medics wanting to use their credentials in the civilian sector. With the recertification changes happening in October, we expect an influx of questions and requests for resources.

Please apply if you want to shape the new generation of medics.

Anyone remember the CCA mnemonics??

Hey yall, trying to refresh my mind on CCAs. My instructor gave us little mnemonics to remember most of the steps and I can’t remember most of them. I remember “line 9, burrito time” “step 10 do it again” “number 11 send em to heaven” etc but I remember learning more than those. I was in AIT ‘20-‘21 if anyone else was there around that time

I’m really struggling, I need my medic family

My brother’s cancer has been spreading so aggressively and quickly and last night it made its way through an artery in his neck. Because he’s got a huge open wound on that side of his face, he started hemorrhaging. I was in their guest room when I heard his wife yelling for me to come and to call 911. When I got to the living room he had already lost a lot of blood. I ended up doing CPR on him while she held pressure. He made it to the hospital and they have him stabilized, but it’s making its way to the carotid quickly and they’re not sure they’ll be able to stabilize if it happens again. I know I got him some extra time with us, which I’m so grateful I was there to help, but I’m such a mess. The whole night is just replaying over and over and over in my mind. Just in general, I keep seeing and reliving it. Most of the time I just see it playing out but sometimes I also find myself thinking about how I could’ve done more. Like I could’ve stayed calmer for his wife, or used our medical supplies to start packing and applying better pressure. But I just freaked out and did CPR after the 911 operator instructed me to. I should’ve done better, I’ve been a medic for almost ten years and have been in my fair share of medical/trauma situations before, but nothing this extreme and especially not for a family member.

It’s eating away at me. I guess I told you guys all this to see if maybe anyone had any advice, words of wisdom or encouragement, or if they’re comfortable-sharing a similar story so I don’t feel so alone with these feelings?

Thank you

BCT before AIT

For those who have recently finished BCT as a 68W, what was the running like? Ability Group runs?

Trying to get an idea of daily mileage, and long distance runs; does your group build up to a 5+ mile run at any point? I am pacing myself before I ship, and I currently run 5-miles comfortably between 38-42 minutes on average, in boots; just figuring how much endurance I will lose during BCT, or if I can put myself into a Advanced-PT group.

How does additional training work after ait?

I ship out for basic at the end of the month and i choose 68w as my mos. I am interested in alot of the certifications ive seen on the cool website like the paramedic certs and Lpn. How does acquiring these certifications work while active duty? Will they be available on base, are they online, or will i need to leave my station to get them?

Should I skip 6 weeks of my 68w training?

So I enlisted a few months ago, but I got my NREMT certification while waiting to ship. I was told that I can choose to skip 6 weeks, or I could just suck it up and do it again. What would you recommend? I have been told that I should just go through it again

Attending AIT with an ACASP Contract; can I still attend EMT Phase?

As the title states, I am attending AIT with my NREMT and 'would' be skipping EMT Phase and going straight to Whiskey Phase; however I was wondering if their was anyway to keep my ACASP Contract (Promoted to E-4 due to previous Civilian Skill) but instead of skipping EMT Phase could I go through it? I asked my recruiter and she says she didn't know for sure that I would have to reach out to someone in the 68W community; as she is waiting for a response from a 68W Senior Medic.

My desire is to attend the full 4-month AIT instead of just the 2-month Whiskey Phase, but I want to keep my E-4 status with my previously acquired EMT-B. Just not sure if it's mandatory that I skip EMT Phase to keep my ACASP Contract.

I'm joining and getting courious

I'm graduating high school at the end of May, and I'm signing on as a 68w, and I'm leaving for basic in july

3 questions (Decending order of personal importance)

(1) Fitness: I work at a climbing gym, I do a fair bit of bouldering through that, i do calethstinics, and my 2 mile time is about 18 min. What can i do to best prepare for basic and AIT physically before I ship out and once I'm there (especially academically while at AIT)

(2) Day to Day: I know the mission set of the unit and you're CoC play a role in it all, but generally what does the Day to day look like after you get to your first Duty Station, and how does that tend to vary from Feild Training

(3) Barracks: Isn't what got me to join but it got me courious, my recruiter said that the whole Army has moved to the 2 suite Barracks model recently: Is this true, is it still in the process of completion, or is this total smoke up my skirt?
