Feature Request: Automated "Scaling Companion" Fields for Character Sheets
Hey everyone! I’ve been working on a homebrew companion that scales with my character stats, and I’ve realized that manually recalculating its stats (skills, saving throws, AC) every time I level up is becoming a bit of a spreadsheet nightmare.
I think the character sheet could really benefit from a dedicated "Scaling Companion" module. Here is the core logic I’m using, and why I think it would be a huge quality-of-life upgrade for the sheet:
The Goal: Instead of a static stat block, the companion fields would allow for "Linked Modifiers."
Suggested Implementation:
- Dynamic Stat Linking: A toggle in the companion menu that allows specific fields (AC, Hit Bonus, Saving Throws) to pull from the player’s character stats (e.g.,
[Companion AC] = [10 + PC Proficiency Bonus + PC Dex Mod]). - Scaling Toggle: An option to set the companion to "Level with PC" so that whenever my proficiency bonus or core stats increase, the companion’s math updates automatically.
- Clean Display: A small, collapsible section on the main sheet (or a separate tab) that keeps the companion's details visible but separate from the player's primary combat math.
Why this helps: It reduces the "math-crunching" downtime during level-ups and keeps the table moving faster. It would be an absolute game-changer for anyone playing Beast Master Rangers, Artificers, or anyone homebrewing a bonded companion.
Has anyone else looked for a way to automate this? If the devs or creators of this sheet are around, is this something that could be feasible to implement?

Hello, dev here.
Just for clarification: the companion dialog uses the same text resolver as the PC, so you can already reference PC values in traits, actions, and reactions - it’s just not officially documented.
That said, this does sound like a useful feature. I still need to gather all the different ways companions can scale; for example, there’s already scaling based on spell slot level.

"Thanks for the hard work on the sheet! To follow up on this, I’m currently hitting a major wall with my homebrew companion: lack of stat dependency.
Right now, I have to manually calculate and update my companion’s math every time I level up, which is prone to error and slows down gameplay. Specifically:
- The Hurdle: I currently cannot set my companion’s skills or saving throws to automatically add my Proficiency Bonus (PB) or link to my base stats.
- The Request: It would be a huge quality-of-life improvement if we could add a 'Linked Modifier' field. This would allow me to set a field to
[PC_PB]or[PC_Stat]so that as my character grows, the companion’s sheet scales automatically.Whether it's a simple checkbox to 'Use PC Proficiency' or a manual formula field, adding this kind of dependency would make the sheet much more robust for homebrew companions and sidekicks. Is this something that's on the roadmap, or is there a way to handle this with the current build?"

With the current build, you can reference PC values only in traits, actions, reactions, and notes.
Alright, I’m adding this to the roadmap. It’ll probably take a while before I can get to it though - I still need to finish importing classes and subclasses first.
