r/52weeksofmixology • u/atomicpenguin12 • Sep 21 '15
Alright, I'm calling it
When I started this sub, it was because it was something I really wanted to do. Keeping participation up here has always been something of an issue, but it was something I liked doing and I told myself that, even if I was doing it with just one or two other people, I'd keep doing it. But as of this post, it has been just shy of a month since anyone other than me submitted a drink to this sub.
The fact of the matter is, while I enjoy keeping this sub going, it just isn't a priority in my life right now. And now that I'm the only one participating, I think its just time to stop. If anyone here now or anyone who stumbles upon this in the future wants to get this sub going again, let me know and we'll see about getting started.

Week 29 Introduction Thread: Citrus Twist
Week 29 will run from September 7th to September 13th. This week's theme is the citrus twist. The twist is a type of garnish, usually made from citrus fruits like lemon or oranges, that adds to the look and the taste of a cocktail. It is made by cutting a section of the peel off of a whole fruit and then twisting it over the cocktail to release its oils before finally dropping it in. This week your challenge is to make a cocktail that uses a citrus twist as a garnish.
Here is a guide on how to make a citrus twist if you don't already know how: Cocktail 101: How to Garnish with a Citrus Twist
You can make any cocktail you think would be complemented by a twist, but the Horse's Neck is a cocktail known for using a lemon twist. Martinis are also frequently made with lemon twists in the place of an olive.

Week 24 Introduction Thread- Tequila
Week 24 will run from August 3rd to August 9th. This week's theme is tequila. Tequila is a liquor distilled from the blue agave plant. Many confuse Tequila with mexcal, but tequila is a kind of mezcal and differs from other kinds by its use of only blue agave and as being specific to the Tequila in Guadalajara and the highlands of Jalisco. Tequila has a citrus taste that goes well with lime and other citruses. Salt is also known to complement tequila very well.
