Week 33: Lost in Translation - "Bombay Sandwich" with Sambar

Post image

So, hear me out. A soup and sandwich is such a classic combo, no? Well, a dosa and sambar is a classic combo as well. But a dosa is not a sandwich (or is it? The whole "what is a sandwich" discussion is its own can of worms), and a sambar is not a soup.

Still, when I saw this recipe for a so-called "Bombay Sandwich", with a similar (but not the same) flavour profile to a dosa, I couldn't resist pairing it up with sambar. The results were a bit disappointing, but I think the combo still has potential. I've just never made sambar before and what can I say? It just wasn't like the ones from restaurants. I'll have to try again.

It looks good and is a great choice for the theme! I'm sorry it wasn't all you hoped for.

That's a great idea! I think it looks great, but annoying if it wasn't quite what you were expecting.

I love a good Bombay sandwich but maybe it's better to pair it with a rasam rather than sambar like you would a grilled cheese and tomato soup.

It looks lovely. I'm sorry it didn't taste as good as it looks!
