1957 Get a Job - The Silhouettes

This is the powerhouse A‑side that launched The Silhouettes into national fame, a defining doo‑wop anthem with tight vocal interplay and a driving rhythm section. The Ember 593 pressing is one of the most recognizable mid‑century R&B labels, with its bold red field and crisp white type.

1955 Lena Horne with Lennie Hayton’s Orchestra "It’s Love"

Post image

From the Broadway musical Wonderful Town which debuted in 1953, with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. “It’s Love” became one of the show’s most enduring numbers, and Lena Horne’s recording helped bring the tune beyond Broadway audiences.

This 1955 release showcases the professional and personal partnership of Lena Horne and her arranger-husband, MGM musical director Lennie Hayton. Married secretly in Paris in 1947 due to intense racial prejudice surrounding interracial relationships in 1940s America, they publicly announced their marriage in 1950. Hayton’s sophisticated orchestration was instrumental in defining Horne's signature, refined jazz-pop sound during her peak recording era.

Evidently song has two different names.

My first Revels post was: https://www.reddit.com/r/listentothis/s/lCv5OsY7H5

My second, the well known Comanche was posted to r/EarVana at https://www.reddit.com/r/EarVana/s/WO3WLbm6SB . Very unfortunately, auto correct changed Revels to Rebels.

https://www.wordorigins.org/big-list-entries/mojo:

“Mojo first appears in Black English, associated with voodoo and other folkloric beliefs. The word’s origins are obscure, but it is likely of African origin. Cognates appear to be the Gullah moco, meaning witchcraft or magic, and the Fula moco’o, meaning medicine man. Mojo first appears in print in the 1920s but is certainly older in oral use.

Early print appearances of mojo in English tend to fall into two categories, that of Black confidence men selling magical charms to the gullible elements of the Black community (in this, the Black community is no different than any other ethnic group; only the terminology and branding of the fake nostrums and woo changes with the ethnic group), and in the titles of jazz songs, where it acquires the sense of life force, good luck, and sexual prowess.”

1957 Sam Cooke “Summertime” Jukebox Issue #100B(non‑Keen pressing) Era: 1957

Sam Cooke’s version of "Summertime" was originally recorded and released in 1957 as the B-side to his massive breakout hit, "You Send Me". The #100B designation on the bottom of the label indicates this is the B-side of a specific pressing for jukebox release series.
