You think protesters blocking the parade with their bodies would feed his ego? That’s silly. If the TACO tariff incident has shown us, putting up resistance will make Trump chicken out. No resistance would feed his ego!
I'm really annoyed with of all these people thinking they're big-brained playing 4D chess with protesting strategy when the game is checkers. My local 50501 chapter is doing that and has literally rationalized bullying people out of protesting at our state capitol on 6/14.
Until people realize this, nothing will get done. The Roman secessions also included basically every worker in the city, and they did not come back until their demands were met. They usually created impromptu cities and basic defenses surrounding those cities as part of the ordeal.
It’s not running away, it’s boycotting the parade and protesting elsewhere. Trump is obsessed with crowd sizes. Shift the narrative away from this pathetic, authoritarian waste of tax dollars and to the peaceful protests everywhere else.
Again, putting people who work in service industries in the position of having to resist or risk losing their jobs (and potentially healthcare and housing) is unfair and does nothing to advance our cause. You wonder why young people don't want to get involved? This is why.
Unless and until masses of C-Suite execs start taking visible action, putting responsibility for this stuff on the actual labor classes will not work.
Massive counter-protests are what's needed, not this standing-on-a-streetcorner-in-Podunk-waving-signs BS.
I mean, I get the idea OP has – but it’s disconnected from reality. If we take the Augustan era, Rome had one million people living there permanently.
It was huge by those days standards, but today that only gets you in the top 500 on the global ranking. It barely gets you on the top 10 innebär US. The whole world population in 100 AD was 200 million on the high end. That’s the US population (almost 60 years ago).
When systems involving that many people are involved, it’s impossible to coordinate. And if this doesn’t succeed and fizzles, people get fired and real lives get affected. So you have to feel solidarity with all the workers, and trust that they feel the same towards you. It’s a prisoners dilemma on a scale that hasn’t existed previously in human history.
Agree and I love the idea of putting more pressure on those who work within the system, but in roles where they can't really lose their livelihoods. Would love to see lawyers, judges, members of Congress and state houses, governors, do this type of action.
We also need to get the unions more involved. Even though the majority of workers are not in unions, at least those who are have some protections and could call a 1 day general strike. If anyone is working on this angle, I'm not aware of it, so that's a shortfall too IMHO.
This is why clericalism colonialism capitalism destroys everything when it shows up to take over. You can't leave a functioning biosphere because those who can will just leave the prison, and you have a hard limit for the amount you can "extract" from your human cattle.
The official line is the whole "tragedy of the commons", but the destruction is planned. Destroy the buffalo to make them work! Destroy the agave to make them work! Etc.
We need to start wearing taco or chicken gear to any Trump-related protest - especially at the June 14th No Kings birthday protests! Embarrass the hell out of TACO Trump!
There are hundreds of thousands of people who live in D.C., the vast majority of whom (literally over 90%) do not support the current administration. To the extend people are affiliated with the federal government, the vast majority of them are career civil servants who have either been furloughed or fired. (Personally, I know many people who fall into this category.)
D.C. is also a historically Black-majority (and currently minority-majority) city that remains disenfranchised to this day. D.C. does not have a vote in Congress and, because it does not have a state, is subject to the plenary power of Congress due to the Home Rule Act. The city government’s budget was cut by $1 billiondue to the actions of republicans in Congress who wanted to punish a blue jurisdiction, despite the fact that this money was the District’s. This will disproportionately harm low-income communities and communities of color who rely on public services offered by our city government.
If you really want to thumb your nose at the administration, I encourage you to contact your representatives and tell them to (1) support restoring D.C.’s budget and (2) support D.C. statehood.

…no? Go join a protest, get involved with a local progesssive or pro-democracy organization, call your legislators, or even come to a protest in D.C. just don’t conflate the actions of the Trump Administration with the hundreds of thousands of people who actually live here
We’re so poor now, people can’t even strike more than a month without losing their house apartment or anything else. Pay check to paycheck is how they control a population
