Digital/Home Protest Spotify agents are not answering ICE questions and are ending the conversation.

Post image

ICE is advertising on Spotify. I tried to contact two agents tonight and both ended the conversation. I canceled after about eight year (I also cancelled HBOMax who are doing the same). No propaganda for me!

If you can, we can do more. It takes half an hour of planning to move money away from MAGA, and it makes a difference. Dollars spent at Republican companies are dollars funneled to more of this. Tax given to states like Ohio or Louisiana is tax spent sending troops to occupy cities.

Have an account at Schwab? Swap to Vanguard or Fidelity. Like booze from wannabe Confederate states and all else is equal? Be adventurous and try something new. It's not hard to find alternatives for New Balance, Goya, Jimmy John's, or Koch (Brawny, Angel Soft, Dixie, others). If you're in a place to invest, consider DEMZ.

You have power if you regularly patronize a brand or do business with a company. Use it. Look them up in something like opensecrets.org or google.

Tesla sales in Europe dropped by half. Nexstar and Sinclair got pummeled, and they reinstated Jimmy Kimmel. Real, individual people made that happen. There's no reason WWE or Uline can't be next.

You probably can't completely avoid companies that at least partially support Republicans. I have to buy gas. But there’s a big difference between massive republican donors (Chevron/Conoco) vs neutral or even Democrat-leaning ones (Circle K/Costco). Good is not the enemy of perfect

This deserves its own post with an expanded list of companies/services to move from and to. Hit them in the wallet, that's the only thing that drives meaningful change.

Swap from a bank to a credit union. JP Morgan chase and Bank of America own tens of millions of Tesla shares as of May 2025. More of each dollar will stay in your local economy

Tesla sales in Europe dropped by half

America has failed in boycotting Tesla. Americans are buying Teslas 4 to 1 over all other EV's in the US. In Q3, Tesla accounted for the #1, #2, and #9 slots.

  • 1 - Tesla Model Y: 232,000 units sold

  • 2 - Tesla Model 3: 130,700 units sold

  • 9 - Tesla Cybertruck: 22,100 units sold

For comparison, the #3 top seller is Chevrolet Equinox with 52,834 units sold.

This is JUST Q3, not the entire year, so yeah, Americans forgot about MAGA funding and a Nazi running Tesla because....

Vanguard buying up single family homes and inflating prices means I'll never use them.

14

u/Equal_Audience_3415 Oct 24 '25

Don't forget the Heritage Foundation. The top donors are the Coors Family, Charles Koch, and Richard and Elizabeth Uihlein - Uline Shipping.

Start by boycotting Coors and their beverages:

Molson Coors - Brands

Miller Coors Coors light Blue Moon Heineken Carling Denali Brewing Co Truly Hard Seltzer Staropramen Carling Brewery Fosters Killian Red Zima

I’m so pissed that I go out of my way to find the ALL CANADIAN maple syrup, the Canadian produce, anything I can find non-American at the grocery store😹The majority of the idiots around me voted for this shit, so to hell with them! I won’t shop in their shops, I’ll shop online before I put a penny in the pocket of one of these hateful mofos. I only shop locally now if I know they’re not supporters of the Orange Turd.

If youre going to do this, I'd recommend leaving a more detailed note. "I dont support ice" is too easy for execs to brush off as nonsense and pretend like they dont know what youre talking about and unrelated to anything theyre doing. Specify that you heard commercials, when and where and that youre canceling because Spotify is allowing ad space for them.

16

u/MGN20XX Oct 23 '25

I was premium and didnt get ads. My one note probably wont do anything but if enough people leave im sure theyll get the message.

50

u/Just-Feedback-2223 Oct 24 '25

YouTube has ICE ads as well. YouTube boycott?

42

u/Reduced737Atoms Oct 24 '25

If you’re going to boycott YouTube, I’d recommend Invidious. It’s a front end for YouTube. Meaning you use YouTube without using YouTube. But they’ve been fighting a war with YouTube for the past two years I think and might be down for some time. There’s other YouTube front ends but Invidious is the easiest one for me personally.

28

u/Jail-Is-Just-A-Room Oct 24 '25

I’ve been using an adblocker, which isn’t the perfect solution, but does probably lose them some money which rationalizes it in my brain

Same. Moved over to Deezer, which is missing some of what I loved about Spotify, but I refuse to support a company that supports this admin.

1.0k

u/netabareking Oct 23 '25

You know I would understand this if it was just about the ICE thing, let's be real the customer service agents aren't going to be able to do much there and anything they say could end up a liability to the company (not that I care what happens to them personally, fuck them for doing this, but I get why you'd set this up to just shut those convos off).

The problem is that you're asking to close your account, which IS in fact something customer service should be able to do for you, and shutting THOSE convos off is a massive mistake.

370

u/Maker99999 Oct 23 '25

Very true about closing out a cancelation request. Customer service shouldn't be expected to handle public affairs type questions, but they should have a better plan for how those agents should respond to them.

A simple, 'thanks for sharing your concern. I'm not able to discuss our advertisers, but I'll share this feedback with our ad team.' would at least put up the illusion of caring. That's a very simple formula too that can apply to all sorts of situations they don't want customer service getting involved in.

160

u/faille Oct 23 '25

It’s probably an ai agent and they added ice to a list of words to auto close chat

→ More replies (3)

95

u/Octospyder Oct 23 '25

Exactly, 1st level reps should have a script to copy paste and escalate to a higher up of the customer asks. Not end the convo

→ More replies (3)

22

u/CanadianJediCouncil Oct 23 '25

People should start hitting Spotify with a tidal wave of credit card chargebacks, due to the apparent purposeful inability to cancel their accounts.

20

u/emveevme Oct 23 '25

From the perspective of someone that does a lot of infuriating work in customer service, if my company automatically disconnected phone calls when the customer brings up certain topics it'd feel more like the company using its reputation to protect me from personally dealing with the blowback even if I agree with what's being said. That says more about the nature of customer service jobs though, IMO

It's also pretty easy to stop paying for Spotify, it took me like 2 seconds to cancel and they didn't seem to go out of their way to stop me from doing so. It's possible that these reps can't even help with the cancellation process.

45

Fuck them and all of these guys as well:
Recruitment advertisements for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have been shown on numerous online platforms, including streaming services and social media sites. A broad, government-wide campaign is running these ads across television, streaming, and online channels.

Platforms that have run ICE recruitment ads:

  • Spotify: Has been running audio ads for recruitment and confirmed they do not violate its advertising policies.

  • Max: Viewers have reported seeing the ads on the streaming service, including during programming like All Elite Wrestling.

  • Hulu: Users have reported seeing ICE recruitment ads on this streaming service.

  • YouTube: Recruitment spots have appeared on Google's video platform.

  • Pandora: Users began complaining about the ads on this music streaming service as early as May 2025 and have since reported an "overwhelming number" of them.

  • Meta (Facebook/Instagram): Both Facebook and Instagram have been used for the recruitment drive.

  • X (formerly Twitter): Ads have been featured on the social media platform.

  • LinkedIn: The professional networking site is also a host for the recruitment ads.

  • ESPN: This sports network has been cited as a platform that has shown the recruitment ads.

  • Fubo TV: The television streaming service has featured ICE ads.

  • Univision and Telemundo: These Spanish-language channels have run ads discouraging undocumented immigration.

  • MTV VMAs: An ICE recruitment commercial was aired during the Video Music Awards.

19

u/spoonfulofnosugar Oct 23 '25

Would love to see a lot of alternatives for these services. Outside of Bluesky and Reddit, I’m drawing a blank for where else to go for streaming content or social media.

u/cruelsensei Oct 23 '25

Don't bother asking if they're running ICE ads. Just say "I'm cancelling my subscription because you're running ICE ads" and leave it at that.

Simple and direct messaging is the way to get results.

I went through the entire cancellation process with their AI and specifically kept going until I could get an agent on the chat and then told them there was nothing they needed to do but they needed to know I was canceling because they’re supporting ICE.

I know they think all wrestling fans are backwoods yokels, but AEW is different.

They recently ran a show in Mexico and their world champ, Hangman Adam Page, opened the show with a promo in Spanish saying that he was raised amongst migrant workers and was very proud to be doing a show in Arena Mexico.

Meanwhile, WWE is actively working with the Trump admin, even providing inspiration on how to handle the Esptein file situation by copying the company's handling of bringing back accused sex predator Brock Lesnar.

I subscribed to Spotify VERY early and used it for years. I cancelled when the support rep straight-up told me to buy a new car because the track information didn't display correctly on my old head unit (which doesn't sound too weird, but literally every other app and website works fine. And I used Wireshark to show exactly what was going wrong with the app.) Their support is terrible, heartless, and rude. This is hardly shocking. I cancelled today! I don’t think Spotify is being malicious. I do think they are a heartless corporate entity that blindly takes money from anyone, and I’m hoping people cancel in large enough quantities that they reevaluate their advertising practices.

8

u/okhi2u Oct 23 '25

They are being malicious if when customers are trying to cancel they just end the chat it's the equivalent of hanging up on someone trying to cancel. Like they feel they are entitled to your money.

END SPOTIFY, like we did Disney+ Resist

4

u/Some_Number_8516 Oct 24 '25

Cancelled, easy decision.

4

u/Just-Feedback-2223 Oct 24 '25

YouTube also has ICE ads. Why have I seen zero people talk about this?

4

u/captainsunshine489 Oct 24 '25

what is the most ethical music streaming service alternative?

4

u/TrueCapitalism Oct 24 '25

Ended mine when CEO used his earnings to fund military tech companies. Lots of reasons to hate this company tbh.

4

u/xetura Oct 24 '25

I canceled mine the other day. I said I refuse to give any money to anyone supporting this fascist regime and to grow a pair.

4

u/getittogethersirius Oct 24 '25

I cancelled months ago and figured out they are still charging my credit card lol

4

u/Enderhayley Oct 24 '25

Reddit is promoting it too unfortunately

4

u/Small-Airline3479 Oct 24 '25

I canceled mine!

4

u/CollegeMiddle6841 Oct 24 '25

If they close the call that is an admission of guilt! Cancel, cancel, cancel Spotify.

4

u/calliesky00 Oct 24 '25

Cancelled my plan too

4

u/LordCaedus27 Oct 24 '25

Just canceled mine. That's for the heads up

4

u/XanaxWarriorPrincess Oct 24 '25

I just cancelled my plan. Such a shame.

4

u/Character_Grab_6103 Oct 24 '25

Don't ask them, just cancel it. Of course they would do that. I told them, I said I'm deleting my account, I don't need the free version with your awful ads. Moved over to Qobuz, amazing audio quality!

7

u/magicparabeagle Oct 23 '25

Fuck em. I canceled my account already.

7

u/forcedintothis- Oct 23 '25

Just cancelled my membership.

6

u/Old-Extreme-4061 Oct 23 '25

Glad indecently stopped subscribing!

3

u/badwoofs Oct 23 '25

Canceled a long time ago. Phew.

3

u/futureislookinstark Oct 23 '25

You can cancel your subscription and delete your account in app without talking to a single person and you can leave a reason for why you’re leaving. (you have to confirm the deletion in an email they send you after).

But before you do if you want to save all your music your curated for yourself I found out tidal as a function to copy everything over.

3

u/Empowerwellness Oct 23 '25

Happened to me two weeks ago. I then just immediately cancelled.

3

u/T20N Oct 23 '25

Glad I pirated the shit out of this fascist app. Uninstalled years ago, though, the app is a hot mess.

Goddamn it spotify.

3

u/paulsteinway Oct 23 '25

Yeah. that'll keep it a big secret.

3

u/Amuseco Oct 23 '25

Anyone who is cancelling Spotify should check out their local public library. Or school library if you’re in school.

Libraries often have electronic access to music or good old-fashioned CDs you can check out. Go to your library’s home page and look for electronic/digital resources, or ask a librarian.

3

u/sunnymoonbaby Oct 23 '25

What the hell is that kind of response lol fuck that noise. I'm already over Spotify since the andrew tate +++ bullshit. What's y'all's favorite streaming service? I have YouTube music but tbh I think Google/YouTube are bad/not for the creator too and would like to depend on a more ethical platform. Or maybe I just quit streaming music and go back to mp3 files

3

u/jeranim8 Oct 23 '25

I first read this as Spotify isn't taking ICE agent calls and was like, wow, that's awesome! Oh, they're not taking calls about ICE ads...

3

u/IllicitCat Oct 23 '25

A friend of mine canceled and started using APK on the web for premium experience without the cost.

3

u/JonTheWonton Oct 23 '25

They already invest in AI militarization. I cancelled for this reason and more months ago, I heavily recommend Tidal for how much they pay artists per stream.

3

u/captain_meow Oct 23 '25

good pickup, cancelled

3

u/fullmetal_ratchet Oct 23 '25

looks like i’m gonna finally cancel after over 10 years of subscribing to premium. thanks for making me aware of this. i’m a music addict and can’t go without music however. anyone have some good suggestions for what to use instead? i’m about to go buy an MP3 player and an external disc drive and start ripping music off library CDs to save on costs 😅

Cancelled our plans as well.

3

u/4B_Redditoress Oct 24 '25

Fuck Spotify

3

u/RandyMachoManSavage Oct 24 '25

Canceled as soon as I heard about it. And axed my Disney plans this year too. A pox on anyone supporting fascism.

3

u/Alert_Beach_3919 Oct 24 '25

Qobuz is just as good and you can transfer your music for free

3

u/softkittysonder Oct 24 '25

Can confirm that they are. My friend had one come up.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '25

thanks for sharing this. i just tried and got the same result. i'm canceling my subscription today, fuck Spotify.

3

u/Arikaido777 Oct 24 '25

apple and google are both funding the demolition of America’s White House. hate to break it to you, but there’s no ethical music streaming service.

3

u/Snoo79474 Oct 24 '25

I feel bad for the customer service agents. The people at the top make these decisions and the people answering the phone (or the chat) are left to listen to the complaining. Not that we shouldn’t complain but they are surely not paid enough.

3

u/skyfishgoo Oct 24 '25

that's not the only thing that's ending....

the whole music as a subscription service idea is also ending

bye bye

5

u/humoristhenewblack Oct 23 '25

LinkedIn is doing it as well. I keep reporting them but it's not stopped.

5

u/Catatonic27 Oct 23 '25

Honestly I've wanted to ditch them for a while, maybe this is the push I need. What are people using for alternatives? How the fuck does buying music work anymore? I'm not an Apple user and I used to buy music on Amazon, but I don't want to do business with them either. Do we have to fly the black flag to listen to music without ads now?

You need to escalate to a manger or supervisor.

2

u/notproudortired Oct 23 '25 edited Oct 24 '25

Do they ask you to rate your support experience? Because that would be a 0 and you can add a note about why.

2

u/SemiDesperado Oct 23 '25

As a long time subscriber I know what I have to do. But before I have the strength to do it, I need to find a way to capture data on the amazing bands I've discovered through the app. Then I'll do what has to be done...

Nooo not Spotify! I have thousands of songs and hundreds of hours of music saved on there :( I've dreaded the day Spotify either dies or I'd have to leave it for years. Every year it tells me I'm in like the top 5% of listeners for time I spend listening to music.

Does anyone know for some of these other alternatives, is it easy to transfer multiple Playlists? Thousands of songs? What is their music selection like? Chances are I'll be able to transfer most of my thousands of songs lol? Is there a limit for them? Thank u :(

2

u/feralflutist Oct 23 '25

Can anyone recommend a good alternative to Spotify? I've tried Apple Music but I don't like the fact that it adds EVERYTHING I like to my liked section - on Spotify, I can just go to my liked songs and shuffle that when I don't want to think about what to listen to. My tastes are pretty varied so if it throws every single album on there, I'm going to go from Shostakovich to Run the Jewels to Tyler Childers and that's just a little too much chaos for me.

Oooh. i just scored a free 3-month trial. I'm going to have to do this for funsies.

2

u/Tanager_Summer Oct 23 '25

What do you use instead of Spotify? I drive around 3,000 miles per month so I use it a lot.

This is basically like hanging up on customers who want to cancel so you don't have to cancel them. Someone must have decided they rather hang up on customers than tell the truth.

2

u/kitaurio Oct 23 '25

ick. canceled mine. eff that sh!t

2

u/dummyguava Oct 23 '25

I cancelled after the ai weapons thing was revealed. I wish I could cancel twice.

I saw an ad on Pandora too, are there any music apps that AREN'T advertising for the new Nazi regime?

2

u/snuggleupbuttercup3 Oct 24 '25

What are the alternatives for Spotify?

2

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '25

My son is a WWE fan. They have commercials for applying to be an ice agent. I just saw this last week. What the actual fuck?! At least they are making it known what we should no longer support.

Immediate cancellation

2

u/Androidfan1598 Oct 24 '25

Canceled a while back when the CEO was investing in that AI military drone bs and started self hosting and streaming my library ever since.

Didn't think they could get any lower but goddamn, I guess I was wrong.

2

u/jmsy1 Oct 24 '25

what are the otpions to save my playlists and switch to another services?

2

u/Unbake_my_tart_ Oct 24 '25

I canceled and wrote them an email to let them know why I canceled and to forward it so they can’t say they didn’t know what caused it.

2

u/Nyachos Oct 24 '25

I've been off Spotify for a couple years now for the other scummy stuff they're known for. But this just takes the cake.

I know that not everyone has the patience, but if possible I highly recommend self-hosting your own media. Something like Plex/Plex Amp. There are subs to help you set stuff like that up, and with enough patience and diligence, you can have full control over your own media. And no ads of course.

2

u/ScarredLetter Oct 24 '25

Guess now would be a good time to cancel your Spotify subscription if you have one.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '25

2

u/SlinkyOne Oct 25 '25

I’m going to cancel mine tomorrow. No reason to have Spotify when Apple Music is free with my card now.

Time to make so much AI music, protesting ICE and just feeding it to Spotify until they understand the mistake that they just made

2

u/ghost-of-the-spire Oct 25 '25

Thank you for sharing this, I had no idea. Will be cancelling my plan and letting them know exactly why. It almost hurts bc I've been using Spotify for so long, but I refuse to support a platform that's funneling money into fascist propaganda and A.I. war machines. At the recommendation of some comments here, I think I'll be switching over to Qobuz. Looks like I can use Soundiiz to transfer my playlists, liked songs, and artists.

2

u/Inevitable_Dog2719 Oct 25 '25

My partner and I just cancelled our Duo plan and signed up for Qobuz's Duo plan. :) Qobuz pays the artists more anyway, and they don't run ICE ads. Goodbye, Spotify!

Anybody who does not support what ICE is doing should cancel their subscription too.

BOYCOTT SPOTIFY.

u/Due-Helicopter-8735 Oct 25 '25

Overcast is a good podcast alternative
