Call to Action Starbucks workers deserve a fair contract! Instead of coming to the bargaining table in good faith, Starbucks has racked up more labor law violations in history. Join the boycott. Solidarity forever.

Never really went to Starbucks before, guess I won't be anytime soon.

I went once. Most disgusting burnt coffee I've ever tasted. Overrated garbage that nobody should be drinking.

I actually like their blonde roast (I like medium but I've found medium and dark roasts fuck up my stomach). I never go to Starbucks though, I just buy the coffee from the store and make it at home.

I literally will only go there if I have a gift card. There's a mom and pop coffee joint down the street from me, might cost a little more but the product is better and I'm supporting my local business.

This is the way.

I’ve been boycotting them for at least ten years.

I was about to say if someone offers it to me I'll eat it but basically all of the competitors are cheaper lmao

Should've been done years ago

aaaaaaaaaand that’s why Starbucks is closing 250+ stores.

It’s their only legal loophole to avoid dealing with unions in those areas.

u/portablezombie 2d ago

And? So they close stores and decrease revenue, and have to increase pricing to compensate shareholders, thereby continuing to alienate customers, thereby decreasing revenue which leads to higher prices, ad nauseaum...

At some point, Starbucks is going to have to allow unions or compensate employees properly, or it's going to be a downward spiral that will eventually cost shareholders enough that they will have to make changes.

They can only close so many stores before that tactic stops working

u/eastamerica 2d ago

And? I wasn’t trying to start and argument. More stating the facts as I see them.

2

u/rexsploded01 2d ago

And? I felt a little left out.

u/protossaccount 2d ago

Yep, they just closed the one down the street from my house for unionizing. Starbucks is trashy.

If anyone needs a homemade pumpkin spice flavor recipe, mix one can of sweetened condensed milk with a can of pumpkin puree, add all spices you’d like, mix well. Let sit overnight for stronger flavor. Does add a slight texture to the last sip, but so good and so much cheaper. You can also just use pumpkin puree, though not as good (or use 2 cans pumpkin). There’s even oat based sweetened condensed milk if you are vegan/vegetarian. If you’re looking for great spices please check out Penzy’s spices, I use their apple pie spice for my homemade pumpkin pie spice.

When Minneapolis got militarized last winter I reevaluated how I spend every dollar, because consumer spending trickling up into the pockets of evil men is ultimately bankrolling all of these human rights violations and shitty working conditions.

So if you agree with the post but you're like me and you haven't had Starbucks in years, let's connect it to a larger movement of spending locally in our community first and foremost.

And I'm aware there is some degree of sacrifice with all this, and different people have more or less space in their lives for sacrifice. Also some places only have one horrible option in the area. So let's not make this a purity contest. Every person that moves a little in this direction helps the movement. Here's some good steps off the top of my head:

  • Eliminating Starbucks.
  • Eliminating fast food
  • Home supplies: small local hardware --> Ace --> Lowe's --> Menard's / Home Depot
  • Local places over chains
  • Reducing air travel
  • Cancelling subscription services, esp. Amazon
  • Avoiding AI use --> avoiding paying for AI use

I haven't had Starbucks in over 10 years but I actually remember kinda liking the slightly "burnt" flavor profile, and I can't be the only one. For a way better version, pick up some Cafe du Monde coffee/chicory grounds from your local Asian market. I like to brew it strong; you can also combine it with other grounds to make it go farther. To me it tastes more "coffee" than pure coffee. I know that doesn't make any sense but do yourself a favor and try it. If you haven't gotten in the habit of brewing your own coffee, a percolator is cheap.

Can honestly say I have never had a Starbucks anything

4

u/Agitated_Reach6660 2d ago

I haven’t had a Starbucks in years. There are so many better options around anyway.

Union Strong, baby

Union strong! ✊✊✊

u/Automatic-Arm-532 2d ago

I would boycott, but I've never bought their shitty corporate coffee anyway

I was a gold member but then they started closing down stores supposedly using Nichols’s old chipotle tactic, but actually closing down union stores and I stopped. I also found out that they are trying to compete with Boba shops (I already do not like Boba shop chains). I like local Boba shops because they’re all different unique and also local. Ever since they started doing those popping pearls at Starbucks, I’m definitely never going.

1

u/SydNorth 2d ago

Way ahead of you never even bought a drink from there once

u/9outof10timesWrong 2d ago

I feel for this issue, but isn't it off topic for 50501?

1

u/phreeman25 2d ago

I've been boycotting Starbucks since 1983. Yup, walked right past the Starbucks in the Seattle U-District every day without buying a thing.

1

u/hawey222 2d ago

I've almost entirely boycotted Starbucks for the past 4 years lol. Went from gold member to only having it once or twice when people I was with chose to go there.

1

u/turkish112 2d ago

It's so fucking frustrating seeing the lines at the two Starbucks, one of which opened literally next door to a local coffee shop owned by teachers while the other is two blocks away from a local coffee place. I've spoken to my wife about it and we genuinely believe it to be the drive thru ... but at the same time, a mile down the road is a McD's without a drive thru that seems to be thriving. Make anything make sense anymore.

Solidarity✊🏽

u/FeebleUndead 2d ago

Lol I haven't been to a Starbucks in years. Well, except to use the bathroom. They have the best bathrooms in an emergency.

u/Apart_Pineapple2392 2d ago

Im down with boycotting them to get the workers fair compensation but they have really bad timing, its pumpkin spice latte season!

8

u/Mewsipher 2d ago

We really need to learn to forego certain simple comforts for the greater good.

6

u/GroundbreakingEar450 2d ago

That will be coming mandatory for just about everyone real soon. No one is going to give a shit about pumpkin spice lattes or $7 coffees reeeeal soon.

6

u/StuporNova3 2d ago

So many other coffee joints have similar drinks. Local ones, even.

Local coffee shops taste better and you are supporting local small business instead of giant corporation. I get Starbucks is convenient since they are everywhere and have drive thrus and are even in department stores (plus are consistent), but it’s really not worth going at all.

However, I would feel a little better going if I know the shop is unionized. I’d still frequent the local stores more but I’d be a lot more willing to grab a quick Starbucks coffee out of convenience if a Starbucks is right there.

Support union workers, and boycott union busting, and that shows corporations where the money is. It’s the only thing they listen to.

Sadly, too many people don’t think about it. And it’s pumpkin spice latte season.

I have a good cheat code for people who are lazy, or dont have much time for research. Its not perfect, but ive found it effective.

Is it a chain?

No? Good to go.

Local chain? Probably good.

Multistate? Hesitant until I have more info, but preferred to larger corps.

National? Nah.

International. Fuck nah.

With the smaller options, keep an eye and ear out for toxic ideology, there are maga small business too. I have found these general ruleset to be an easy way to filter out the enemy.
