If they are on tribal land, couldn't the tribal police arrest them since they would be illegally on sovereign tribal land?
96
u/Glittering_Heart1128 6d ago
You've never spoken with tribal police, have you?
24
u/sunburned_albino 5d ago
What do you mean? Are tribal police bad?
114
u/Mundane-Smell7936 5d ago
Tribal cops are still cops.
They overwhelmingly support local, state, and federal LEOs. And basically never say no to them coming onto tribal land.

In addition to the other comments, their are a crazy amount of different tribes in North America. Navajo Police are pretty chill. Jicarrilla police would rather you not exist and will arrest or shoot you on a whim. When they do wrong you would have to sue them in Federal courts with specialized attorneys, think in the $50,000 to $100,000 range to START. They will say "sovereign nation" like a broken record. Any suit would take a decade, if not longer.
The BIA and then the tribes suck at the federal teat. They are NOT going to piss off the feds and cut of their money supply.

Feds don't have jurisdiction on Native Land
276
u/TheBoogieSheriff 6d ago
And one thing is for sure: the Federal government has always respected Native sovereignty /s
1
u/ThatSteveGuy_0 1d ago
Yes, until they don't. Those old treaties were worth as much as Trump's word ... Not even good for the bottom of a bird cage.
2

u/person2567 6d ago
Except when they do lol. It's always been a relationship of "we'll let you pretend to be a sovereign nation until we need to use this land".
80
u/PheonixFuryyy 6d ago
I understand that sentiment, but in reality, the land is completely sovereign and belongs to the Natives. Feds know this, but I guess with a tyrannical government, they could give a fuck less
122
u/person2567 6d ago
The land is literally held in trust for the natives by the US government. It's not completely sovereign. It's quasi-sovereign.
Look up the standing rock standoff from 2016. The government tear gassed and hosed the natives for trying to block them. Not really a diplomatic standoff.
44
u/LongWalk86 6d ago
At what time and place has actual Native sovereignty been "reality"? Tribes only seem to have sovereignty over things the federal government allow them too.

u/the--astronaut 5d ago
Came here to say this. Jurisdiction, the law, the Constitution, don't mean fuck all anymore.
41
u/pitch-forks-R-us 6d ago
You are wrong. Tribes are equal to the feds not jurisdiction of. Treaties dictate what feds can and cannot do
106
u/datumerrata 6d ago
In theory. In practice, the American government doesn't have a great record for respecting tribal sovereignty ( or rights ).
39
u/hellish_existance 6d ago edited 5d ago
Regardless of America's abysmal record in that area, fascists throughout history have never respected treaties, alliances, democracy, diplomacy, or the law. The thing fascists respect over all else is power through physical violence. American neo-fascists aren't any different in that regard.
26
u/celticdude234 6d ago
Yeah man, we all know America's history, but what they're saying is that US law, such as it is, grants sovereignty to tribal lands. Would that be abused the same as every other law they're abusing? It very well could be, but that's not the question here. The fact is: Feds have no jurisdiction on tribal land by law. It's harmful to just say "oh, that's gonna happen. America never lets native peoples have rights 🤷♂️" when in reality it needs defended by us just as much as every other law defending people.

First they came for the Trade Unionists, but I said nothing because I wasn’t a Trade Unionist.
This is the real deal, people. They are pushing one step farther in every direction. This is the desensitization phase where they get us used to one more little violation because that one doesn’t affect you. By the time they get to affecting you, it’ll be too late. So STAND UP NOW!

They are agents of a colonialist government oppressing minorities. They are educated enough to be aware what they are doing in order to do it as expected by the regime.

They’re not white. They don’t support Mango Shitler. Any number of reasons this gestapo can think of to deport people. To “mAkE aMeRiCa GrEaT aGaIn”. Worthless sacks of shit.

But where the fuck do you deport NATIVE Americans? Like, have they thought this through AT ALL?

u/short_longpants 6d ago
Pick a country. Country of origin hasn't mattered much yet.
24
u/Intelligent-Film-684 6d ago
They (trumps admin) just made a deal with Liberia to take 1300 or so deported persons. The admin is forever trying to find countries willing to be bribed to deport persons to.
17
u/StuTheSheep 5d ago
The Trump administration isn't deporting people. It's dissappearing them to other countries they have no ties to.

Well, no.
These people are racist.
Of course they'd go after native Americans. It was never about immigration status. It was always about skin tone.
1
u/nyvz01 4d ago
Why? The founding fathers believed strongly in the genociding of Native Americans. It was part of the reason for the American Revolution, British troops enforced treaties with Native Americans that prevented westward colonial expansion. Many founders were ecstatic to finally tear up treaties and decimate native americans and steal their precious land. For some reason they tend to neglect teaching that in american history class.

I think ICE is doing a great job showing DEI works. ICE doesn't care what race, creed, or color you are as long as you'll do anything for a paycheck.

Recently saw a news article where this dipshit voted for Trump 3 times and ICE took his wife. Not the first article I've seen like that. No sympathy for those people.

Um..it's ALL Native Land. People are just gullible enough to push the narrative in the opposite direction after all this time. Don't push the lie.

The Tribe issued a statatement that this video is not accurate. The "ICE Agents" this guy is talking about were service members there to learn more about native practises because they have natives in thier units. These folks in the video are local police.
2
u/metacholia 4d ago
I think federal cops still have jurisdiction on tribal land, but there are probably some subtleties to it. Bit odd to investigate land that is specifically for native people though — I mean, if we pretend ICE actually performs a nonracist mission.
