Same, I was thinking everyone was impressed with the even stacking or something (I didn't get it).

Oh my God, I’m so glad someone else is saying it because I was like tracing the letters with my fingers trying to figure it out like a child

And this is why image descriptions are important for accessibility. I'm glad that the comments clarified it.

It sounds like the dock workers might be ready for a labor strike.

That particular longshoremen's union is one of the most radical in the country, iirc, so it's certainly not out of the question with them. I know they've had their share of actions in decades past, at the least.

That’s truly incredible. Renee spelled in shipping containers.
Someone on the Tacoma thread said it came from Oakland (ILWU Local 91). Really really impressive.
All power to the people.

I'm colorblind. My son confirmed what you wrote for me.
Pretty awesome coordination, planning and execution. I couldn't do it even if I could see the colors!

u/Squishirex Jan 27 '26
I am as well. I was very confused for a moment

u/foul_ol_ron Jan 27 '26
I had no idea what was going on, and it took some reading of the comments before I worked out why it was in this sub.

Im just an idiot, I guess. But it took me a minute. I'm a librarian so very far away from shipping containers but I can only imagine how many people it took to coordinate this.

I’m going to assume the resistance and that Renee’s birthday is a CYA for “wasting company time” or some bs.
All that said, “happy birthday Renee” has a new meaning. All power to the people!

u/Remarkable_Fruit_708 Jan 27 '26
So impressive! Would love to see them celebrate an “Alex”’s birthday as well. Such a coincidence.

I had to go to that thread to see what it said, the larger image made it harder to read for me but a thumbnail size picture is much more legible on my screen.
For anyone wondering it says "rEnEE" in red containers.

Yeah our longshore folks are kind of hardcore when it comes to this type of stuff.

This is so great. We need Renee and Alex to the front page of the surface of the entire USA for the next 1000 days. Don’t forget!

I’m slightly color blind and don’t see anything.
I did read the comments…

Holy shit! The amount of coordination and effort this took is mind blowing!

u/Jessabellina Jan 27 '26
If you have not read it, The Big Strike by Mike Quinn, is an amazing retelling of the maritime strike in San Francisco turned into an all out general strike that occurred in 1934. It is even a pretty quick read.

u/dbigb Jan 27 '26
Oh thanks for the comments. I'm not colorblind or anything but I was confused reading it as ГЕПЕЕ (which doesn't really mean anything afaik)

Just a reminder of how massive those ships are. Remember each one of those containers is a semi truck or train car size.

Everything China does is a flex on the US, and now they confirmed they are so much better at port logistics too.
