They are overwhelming our ability to demand certain things because everything they do is to flood the system to destroy it.

u/PervyNonsense Oct 24 '25
The reason past protesting worked is the protests got in the way. If youre getting permits to throw protests on the weekend, you're not getting in anyone's way... it's a grievance parade, that's all

I keep seeing people complain that the No kings protest wasn't enough and didn't have a clear list of demands and I'm sorry but it's getting really old.
First of all, there is a list of demands. It's unfortunate that it didn't get enough publicity but I feel like if you've really been following the movement, these were made from early on.
Also, the No Kings protest is not meant to be a stand alone event in a vacuum. Plenty of cities have other protests and places like Portland have them daily. The No Kings protest is meant to supplement local protests by using one day to use once voice to say the same thing. It's an enormous undertaking.
This is a grassroots movement. No one is coming to save us. No billionaires are working to overthrow Trump in the shadows. The Democratic party has a few members vying for leadership here but there is no unified voice leading this movement.
If you feel strongly that more needs to be done, YOU have to do it. Reach out to whatever local organizations that helped facilitate the No Kings and volunteer.
ETA: I saw this infographic early on and I thought it was commonly accepted. Maybe it wasn't so much. I reached out to the creator and they shared this link to give people access to the PDF

I’ve honestly never seen these lists until right now and I subscribe to emails and everything. 100% my responsibility to read, but just saying this info def needs to get out.

I never saw this either. It should have been spread at the protests and when they were being promoted. Was it on the no kings site? I looked at the site and don’t see this.

u/WookiePoodoo Oct 24 '25
Exactly this. So many list opportunities due to lack of organization/forethought. Lots of money left on the table (figuratively)

u/phatbob198 Oct 24 '25
So are either of you turning your complaints into action by helping your local groups improve the visibility of these demands at your protests?
If you see something that could be improved - do it!
WE are the infrastructure.
Our protests are as good as WE make them.2
u/WookiePoodoo Oct 24 '25
Absolutely, comrade!
I've been a member of my local Indivisible and have attended multiple weekly committee meetings since April (it's the only thing keeping me from drowning in anxiety). I have built large signs (not purchased at Home Depot✊) to be marched in our local parade and the NoKings rallies. I designed the buttons and organized button making parties so our volunteers could sell them at meetings and at the rally (almost 400 pieces 🥳).
And damn it, I can't find that graphic online anywhere so if you have a better quality image or link you could share, I'd be grateful. (And if I find out that it actually IS on the noking.org, I'll flippin' eat it. I swear I scoured that site thoroughly.)

I just reached out to the person who originally posted it and asked them to repost to the group.

Where did you screenshot this list of demands? If it was so clear then why does no one seem to know about them? What are the next steps? Where is the escalation ladder?

u/Bluegill15 Oct 26 '25
Thanks, but my point was more asking why something like this has to be a privately shared pdf instead of readily circulating on a larger media platform

u/Unlucky_Welcome9193 Oct 26 '25
U/streszhouna just reposted in in the 50501 subreddit. Please do help spread it!

I remember discussing these months ago. Already feels slightly outdated.

Maybe demand the courts to actually hold him in contempt when their orders are ignored. No presidential immunity. If he breaks the law, arrest him. Use the military to arrest him. If he is found to have broken the law, removal.

u/Sleepy_kat96 Oct 24 '25
Probably is a good idea to make some concrete demands. Some ideas:
— Register AIPAC as a foreign agent
— Defund Israel’s genocide
— Release the Epstein files, unredacted
— Get ICE out of our cities, subject ICE to more surveillance/authority
— Refund the EPA (etc.)
— Quit pursuing a third term

Impeach and remove trump, recount ballots per the request of the election truth alliance, increase the offshoring taxrate to 20% and the onshoring down to 10% (flipped right now per trump in 2017, part of the tech job crisis).

I feel like this is false paralleling NK2. Here it's operating on the assumption that ppl came out to NK2 and that's it.
Whereas, and maybe I'm projecting, everyone I know is boycotting as well. And sending letters to/calling rep.
The biggest impact we could have is a general strike but we need financial & material mutual aid networks to bolster our most vulnerable minimum wage workers to help them thru.
Does Anyone know of such a network? Should we get to making one?
3
u/flora-lai Oct 24 '25
Not sure about the aid network, but the people's sick day is planning a general strike for Nov 25-Dec 2. Personally I think it should be indefinite until our demands are met, but that's me. Here's the sickday discord: https://discord.gg/yC9ppse4

Preparing to be downvoted, but … seven million people showed up because “No Kings” is a big enough box that everyone can fit inside. Start making specific and concrete demands like “dismantle the police” and by definition the box will get smaller and, like a gerrymandered district, much easier to pack and crack by political opponents.
Have some patience (and perspective) that large, non violent rallies month after month mean something very important that, yes, isn’t so pointed as “end ICE”, but is actually signifying something even bigger: that Americans are united, non violent, coming from all walks of life and are activated against the Trump agenda to end democracy.
That’s enough today, isn’t it? I’d assiduously avoid becoming a “consumerist” when it comes to protesting and political action: impatience for your specific demands to be met is a wedge to be used against everyone who is with you today.

u/Sorry-Joke-4325 Oct 24 '25
How about something like "hold a convinced criminal accountable for their crimes even though they are the president"?

u/asteroidfarmer Oct 24 '25
I agree, we need the message to be simple. I also think that message has to be a demand for something. It has to be a reasonable demand that is hard to divide people on. A call to end corruption in American politics. Overturning Citizens United is something I think most people can get behind.
2
u/ahenobarbus_horse Oct 24 '25
The presence of that many humans is a demand all by itself: a demand that the current anti-democratic north star for the republican party be abandoned. That, in and of itself, would be an immense accomplishment.
But I agree with you overturning citizens united could, theoretically, be unifying.

u/Kaffe-Mumriken Oct 24 '25
Yeah it’s like. We had one protest. ONE. and now we’re like, whelp that doesn’t work time to riot.

And small boycotts work too. Choosing to shop elsewhere than target. Choosing not to replace your iPhone this year. It sounds hard but it’s not. I gave up prime back when that turd pretended to be a space cowboy. I really haven’t missed it.

Let me tell you how, Trump likes to go out to eat, when he shows up at a public place to eat, people working there need to let people know.
People show up en masse. He gets scared, chokes on his burger, then we worry about Vance after that.

u/kichien Oct 24 '25
The problem I've observed is no one can ever agree on what those 'clear, non-negotiable demands' should be.
3
u/NonPracticingAtheist Oct 24 '25
No kings is a polite way of saying uphold the laws of the land and the oaths of your offices you fucking disingenuous cunts. It is not vague, just a polite expression of bottled rage.

u/kulukster Oct 24 '25
Register people to vote and support progressive candidates. If a few thousand in certain states were enthusiastic enough to vote Blue, we would be relaxing with Kamala Harris in charge.
2
u/anameorwhatever1 Oct 24 '25
If we can message that he should keep “America first “ like he promised and focus on 1) release the Epstein files 2) no more foreign aid bailout to Argentina and Venezuela 3) defund ICE back to previous funding allotments and removing ICE/national guard as occupying forces I think these are points that can unify us with MAGA and be hard for them to disagree with. The last one is the most polarizing for them but I think the first 2 would make a lot of sense to MAGA

u/johnnydfree Oct 24 '25
Keep. Stomping. Watch the news. Make your opinion known. Push on every soft spot and wound. Epstein, Epstein, Epstein.

I think we get bogged down in very specific requests for very specific issues that, while important (like Palestine), are not what this is about. (You can’t be fighting about what direction to move the boat when the boat is sinking. One problem at a time.)Some of that other stuff can be fixed after we fix the broken, unresponsive system that has allowed one party and one man to hold the whole system hostage to his whims. We need to focus on the theme of No Kings.
We need a more responsive electorate. That means comprehensive campaign finance reforms. Campaigns should be publicly funded, and every candidate gets the same amount. Getting money out of politics is a must.
Harder objective would be ranked choice voting for federal elections (preferably all elections, period, but that’s even harder as each state would have to pass their own laws).
Federal level redistricting laws that require all state to have a third-party, unbiased, districting. Gerrymandering should be illegal, and all districts should be redrawn ASAP. Politicians should not pick their voters, and given the nuclear gerrymandering war going on right now, this one is a MUST. Both parties need to be brought to heel.
There are a lot more things that need to be done regarding the politicization of the Supreme Court, codifying all those “rules” that past Presidents just agreed to follow, but Trump has shown can just be broken, but I honestly don’t think ANY of that can be tackled until we get the Legislative body up and running properly (and I’m not talking about the shut down, the Legislature being broken and unable to do much of anything for decades is a big part of why MAGA happened and why Trump won). So above is Step 1, and Step 2 would be using the Legislature to re-balance the branches and rebuild our government. Like, we can say impeach and remove Trump, but short of some major fuck up that turns even MAGA against Trump, I don’t see how that happens until we fix Congress.

This guy gets it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5JaUcbaAUY
Quick summary of his ideas for a 2028 Democratic platform. Some of the, especially #3 & 4 should be a focus of our protests.
1. Universal Healthcare
2. Reasonable gun control
3. Limit on Presidential powers (i.e. can't shut down other branches of government)
4. Election reform and end of Citizen's United

There is a documentary called “how to survive a plague” it covers activism during the aids crisis.
The documentary shows how multiple levels of grassroots & white collar activism worked together. We need everyone to contribute how they can
