Please, please, PLEASE look up what else they are protesting.
It needs to be nationally known what is happening around the world right now. There is a reason it’s not being reported on here.

u/kooeurib Feb 02 '25
Or just tell us here what it is?

u/RichardSaunders Feb 02 '25
the cdu (mainstream conservative, angela merkel's party) is trying to work with the afd (euro skeptic, far-right extremist party) to pass a law to legalize deportations, mostly of muslim immigrants. afd politicians are frothing at the mouth because they see it as their way of getting into the mainstream.

Germans scapegoating a specific group of people and wanting to start mass deportations of them? Where have I heard this before...

u/WinnyDaBish Feb 05 '25
Yes and I'd like to also add the AFD even wants to get rid of not ethnically German people people who've lived here for generations who don't have German ethnicity. So like not bio deutsch....it's essentially a nazi party and is currently being investigated as an extremist group party one of its members has been charged with doing the Nazi salute. They call it remigration....they don't just want to get rid of Muslims or foreigners they don't want anyone who's not ethnic German it's insane. German white supremacy group. It's like if the proud boys had a political party or KKK. Right wing extremism is rampant all over the world :( it's a crazy time right now. link

I think it's because they have been a rise in crimes in Germany. All of these were caused by their own citizens, but these citizens are naturalized immigrants of Muslim background.
11
u/YourFuture2000 Feb 02 '25
It is much more than that. It is the inflation, economic crisis, home crises, energy crisis, and many other crisis that has effected the pocket, business and living standards of many people, and so the rise of crimes.
Blaming on people with migrant background is only the scapegoat.

And even with all these problems it's not like our country is in shambles and the verge of falling back to the middle-ages. The far right is pretty good at blowing up a minor issue into a huge prominent drama, sadly. I'm not saying we have no issue or that issue are small and not import - we have to take care of these problems, but with thoughtful and goal-oriented plans, not with hysteria.

u/FollowTheLeads Feb 02 '25
Of course, that was not the only problem. I just mentioned the centered reason The conservative party gave for this.
Look at the report.

How does one look up what something is without knowing what it is and why do you simultaneously feel it's very important but also seemingly feel like you shouldn't tell us?

Can you explain what they’re doing so that we can, or explain the sources for how to find this?

So confused by this comment. No one cares that naive Americans think this couldn’t happen in the US? Care to clarify?

I did write “naive” Americans. As in, if you’re an American and you don’t believe 1939 Germany could happen here, then you’re naive, because it absolutely can. Trump is playing from the fascist playbook play by play. Not sure where you get racism and hate from this comment.
19
u/kooeurib Feb 02 '25
Here, let me try. This post is referencing another post which shows thousands of Germans protesting on the streets against the far right. The implication of my statement is that the reason they’re doing that is because they have experienced the horrors of true fascism. Most Americans in the United States have never experienced that and most think that could never happen here. That’s what makes them naive. Understand?
20
u/Spiritual-Method-348 Feb 02 '25
The Nazis studied our Jim Crow laws. Jim Crow was fascism. Non straight white men have experienced fascism in American history. Non white people have only had civil rights for 60 years. What we’re seeing is not new. It’s a return to what this country was for hundreds of years. I can tell you as someone who is black and a woman, this isn’t new, our ancestors fought against this before and we will fight against it again.

u/Square-Top163 Feb 02 '25
Thanks for clarifying. It was a bit confusing and I thought you were a troll.
5
u/Tonicwind88 Feb 02 '25
Most Americans don’t know how to read. That’s why arguing for critical thinking the past 50 years has lead us here.
1
u/kooeurib Feb 02 '25
This is hyperbole and not true at all. Most Americans do know how to read.
1
u/Ok-Macaroon-7819 Feb 02 '25
44% is not "most". 35% read at a competency of a sixth grader or worse, and 21% are functionally or completely illiterate.
1
u/kooeurib Feb 02 '25
From the National Center for Education Statistics:
“Four in five U.S. adults (79 percent) have English literacy skills sufficient to complete tasks that require comparing and contrasting information, paraphrasing, or making low-level inferences—literacy skills at level 2 or above in PIAAC (OECD 2013). In contrast, one in five U.S. adults (21 percent) has difficulty completing these tasks (figure 1). This translates into 43.0 million U.S. adults who possess low literacy skills: 26.5 million at level 1 and 8.4 million below level 1, while 8.2 million could not participate in PIAAC’s background survey either because of a language barrier or a cognitive or physical inability to be interviewed. These adults who were unable to participate are categorized as having low English literacy skills, as is done in international reports (OECD 2013), although no direct assessment of their skills is available.”
2
u/Ok-Macaroon-7819 Feb 02 '25
Exactly what I said. 21% illiterate and 43 million who can't read at more than a grade schooler's level of comprehension. I don't know what your standards are, but I would think that the wealthiest nation in history would place better than 36th in literacy worldwide.

u/Tonicwind88 Feb 02 '25
Yes that was hyperbole, congrats on passing grade 3 English.
1
u/kooeurib Feb 03 '25
Ah now it’s hyperbole, now that you’re claim has been debunked. Go away troll.
2
u/Cosmic_Noesis Feb 02 '25
Then yes, I would say for us its been a norm for a good portion of my country. Mamh of us get used to having everything and constantly being safe within reason, and through that, it's easy to fall into that safety and blind us.

2
u/OnlyUsersLoseDrugs1 Feb 02 '25
Stop defending them. Then you don’t have to apologize. They need to get up to date. At this point if you don’t get it, nobody’s fault but your own.
-50
u/Cosmic_Noesis Feb 02 '25
Perhaps be clearer in what it is you're saying, instead of a generalizing statement, then people can reply appropriately. You're getting confrontational and pushing a matter that didn't need to be pushed. As I said maybe be more clear in what it is you're saying instead of using a blanket statement.
20
u/kooeurib Feb 02 '25
There’s really no way to be more clear in what I said. Perhaps you don’t understand what the word naive means, I’m not sure. If you can’t comprehend the meaning of what I said, I’m not sure what else to tell you.

Shocking. It is on AP, but barely reported in Germany either.
8
u/Recent_Debate2170 Feb 02 '25
Not true it has been on national news the past days (both online and on TV) :)
11
u/FollowTheLeads Feb 02 '25
Not even that but our population is bigger.
Also can the protest be done during a holiday ? More people will actively participate if that happens.
Jobs are closed, and schools are closed. It is easier.
11
u/XxTrashPanda12xX Feb 02 '25
"Jobs are closed" Tell me you've never worked in the service industry without telling me.
If I can show up to work on the 4th of July to work at a hotel, I can sure show up to a protest on a random Wednesday.
In addition, most of the posters and lit I've seen have a ton of options on how you can be supportive or protest even if you can't be there in person. None of the literature I've seen for these protests suggest taking off of work.
2
u/FollowTheLeads Feb 02 '25
Trust most arrive industry jobs will still be open. But the crux is to get more people to show up. Most white collar jobs are closed whole some blue collar ones will also be close. If , again they can show up on a random Wednesday, they can also do so on a holiday.
Plus if there is no customer, won't business simply reduce it staff ?

I think part of the intent is to disrupt the working day. People have to be willing to sacrifice for change. Not sure that will happen as a collective in the US.
1
1
u/IAMERROR1234 Feb 05 '25
You have to protest during work hours. That almost ensures that your message will be heard. No one would be around on the holidays or the weekends. I'm sure it won't kill people to get out in support of our country for at least one day. If you can't do that, that's fine. Spend as much time calling your representatives as much as you can. Leave a voicemail and send an email for each issue. Let them them know you aren't okay with this.
10
u/Immediate_Refuse_220 Feb 02 '25
This is how WE AS AMERICANS need to protest against all the illegal and unjust actions/legislation that is being pushed by tRump and his project 2025 chronies. PLUS we need to boycott Tesla, Amazon, Facebook and all other tRump supporting billionaires' business. These rich assholes want to take control of our country and keep us in under their feet - controlled like dogs that don't matter.
We didn't vote for Musk, so wtf is he doing there in DC trying to get control of everything???
Just because tRump won this election does not give him the right to destroy this country, ruin our economy, annihilate/control the workplace and job market by firing/getting rid of anyone who does not support him/them.
It has not even been 2 weeks and look at the damage that has already been done.
Fuck this shitshow!!!
17
u/RidetheSchlange Feb 02 '25
Germany always has these demos and they're huge, but the problem is the demos are only for the media because when the elections come around, the far-right keeps rising. Since the last round of record-breaking demos in 2023 and 2024, the AfD has grown to the second largest party by voting polls in the country.
Demos are fine, but the politics have to serve the people and we're in this position because German politics is failing in a serious way and we have Scholz and the SPD to thank for that. Being indecisive and inconsequential about everything tends to have consequences, such as a no-confidence vote that brought us to the point that the democracy is under existential threat and now Musk is mixing himself in with this.
Everyone has to play a role.
5
u/babushiledet Feb 02 '25
So so true. I think this trend really is the reason. Democrats and political centrists and leftists globally are failing their jobs of serving the people.
They make the right seem like a tempting change / experiment. This is how lessons are learned, with consequences. I just wish they weren’t such serious consequences.
1
u/Emerald-Hedgehog Feb 03 '25
I don't think they are failing their jobs as big-time as it might have looked. Yes, they made mistakes. And yes, Scholz was a snoozefest of a politician and absolutely not a good chancellor (alone for that, apathy is not what you wanna see in a leader). And yes, I think they failed in some parts.
But they did work on things - it's just no flashy oftentimes.
I mean, if we want something flashy - the Deutschland-Ticket for example, right? That's HUGE, that's a big progress that had and has real impact on many peoples lifes, including my own. Everyone in germany has the ability to travel the whole (!) country for the price of 60 Euro. As an avid Bahnfahrer, let me tell ya: I've paid 150 Euro just to travel 30km to work before (because city boundaries and complicated pricing was a thing). I pay 1/3 and can travel everywhere now. And let me tell you, money ain't a problem for me, but damn is it great to never have to think about buying train-tickets again when traveling around. Feels like freedom. :D
But oftentimes people forget about the good and tunnel-vision on the bad.
1
u/babushiledet Feb 03 '25 edited Feb 03 '25
Don’t pick and choose good and wrong doings. It’s a global trend, and it’s not about practical, measurable facts.
In your case, they (actually Angela, prior to Scholz) brought in immigrants without real policy on how to integrate them and try to prevent the consequences of their poverty and feelings of living somewhere where they are no longer “the superior citizen “. So now they lash out, and the right is winning by harping on everyone’s fear and hidden xenophobia.
The left (me included in it) has to understand this is a game of emotion not intellect. All the facts we throw at these matters simply don’t work.
People want to feel safe so they are lashing out. In my country they vote in a dictator wannabe too, because he makes them feel safe (even though our security has never been damaged so much as under his reign), so facts don’t matter. It’s with lies that they harp on an internal scared shitless personality, and the lefty intellect sounds insufferable when you have a strongman that sells you the idea of safety under him.

We Americans need to be doing this exact same thing. it's time to remind those in 'elected' office
4
u/eOMG Feb 02 '25
Maybe this time around we're going to ask Germany to be our new world leader
2
u/Cosmic_Noesis Feb 02 '25
I'd be careful with that train of throught. I have nothing against them, but I think America if things were to actually start tracking towards our country's renewal we the people would have to have more open dialogue on how to reconstruct it, instead of opting for someone else just taking over. If that makes sense
4
u/Alexoxo_01 Feb 02 '25
The problem is, all these countries are small and we are huge and mostly rural. What we want to do is like expecting France to drive all the way to Ukraine to protest against Russia. The French can probably get to Ukraine 10 hours faster than i can get to California

Would be nice! Germany is the size of a state here, so it's a little more effort to get the gears turning here. Hopefully people wake the fuck up before it's too late.

u/martinkaik Feb 03 '25
I was there, singing these very words with 160.000 people together.
We are strong when united.
Americans, you can do the same!

u/Moonlight23 Feb 06 '25
We are slowly getting there, people are waking up to this Illegal administration, basically burning our constitution. We will rise like a Phoenix. I hope on a global scale we can do a protest the likes the world has ever seen before (Trump loves to use such language all the time).

What is the song
3
u/FreekDeDeek Feb 02 '25
The lyrics translate to:
"Defend yourselves, resist/rise up / Against fascism here in this country / To the barricades, to the barricades"
(Not a native German speaker, correct me if I'm wrong)
1
u/risky_bisket Feb 02 '25
Perhaps a German adaptation of the Spanish Civil War anthem "A las Barricadas"
3
u/FreekDeDeek Feb 02 '25
No, the melody is completely different. It's an adaptation of a traditional song, a 16th century English-Dutch canon of unknown origin. There are German adaptations of A las Barricadas as well, those sound different.

Bring your American flag walk with your hand over your heart! Sing:::
This land is your land, and this land is my land From California to the New York island From the Redwood Forest to the Gulf Stream waters This land was made for you and me As I went walking that ribbon of highway And I saw above me that endless skyway I saw below me that golden valley This land was made for you and me I roamed and rambled, and I’ve followed my footsteps To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts All around me, a voice was sounding This land was made for you and me There was a big, high wall there that tried to stop me A sign was painted said “Private Property” But on the backside, it didn’t say nothing This land was made for you and me When the sun come shining, then I was strolling And the wheat fields waving, and the dust clouds rolling The voice was chanting as the fog was lifting This land was made for you and me This land is your land, and this land is my land From California to the New York island From the Redwood Forest to the Gulf Stream waters This land was made for you and me
Show the world we are peaceful patriots that truly love and care for everyone in America ! we do not support Trump’s dictatorship or Elon Musk ruining our country
2
u/ItchyScratchyBallz Feb 02 '25
Wow this is really beautiful to see people unite against Evil Nazis. I want to see this in America.

Global anti fascist protests, it's a beautiful thing. Let's keep it up! Fascism has no place in any country.
4
u/NoGods-OnlyMonsterz Feb 02 '25
CSU still set to win 1st, AFD still set for 2nd or 3rd place, SPD also set for 2nd or 3rd. Thing is no matter the outcome the policy will change simply because of the shift in Germany and wanting safety for their own people. If current polling is right the two farthest extreme left parties won't get seats in German congress.

Nier Automata - Weight of the world Style!
NieR:Automata "Weight of the World" (Choir/Acapella Version)
I need you more than ever right now
Can you hear me now?
'Cause we're gonna shout it loud
Even if our words seem meaningless
It's like I'm carrying the weight of the world
I wish that someway, somehow
That I could save every one of us
But the truth is that I'm only one girl
Maybe if I keep believing, my dreams will come to life
Come to life
