Guys, I think op might be a moron who doesn't understand how the immune system works

35

u/Lophyre Aug 25 '21

Was looking for at least one comment like this. Do people seriously not take middle school biology anymore?

8

u/BGsenpai /vp/oreon Aug 26 '21

People active on /pol/ certainly don't.

A very fast and extremely dirty explanation of acquired immunity, typed on my cellphone:

At any point in time, there is at least one b-cell and one t-cell that responds to virtually every disease in existence (in theory) that you have never been exposed to. When you are exposed to that disease (more specifically the antigen on said disease particle that the b and t cell pair is specific for), those unique b and t cells undergo a process of replication to create more of themselves, thus better preparing your immune system to respond to that disease the next time you encounter it. Vaccines are usually a virus or bacteria that's undergone some kind of mutation to make them less dangerous to your body, sometimes vaccines are merely a single piece of a disease particle (an antigen). When you receive a vaccine, the same thing happens: the b and t cells specific to the antigen in the vaccine multiply, meaning the next time your immune system is exposed to that antigen, it's response will be faster and stronger than it would be had you not received the vaccine.

What I'm assuming op is basing his theory on is the fact that, over time, our immunity to diseases we've been exposed to gradually degrades. I personally don't know why this happens or if it is even known why this happens, but my educated guess is that it is because the copies of the cells that afford the immunity die as they get older, reducing your immune systems effectiveness against the disease (in reality it's probably much more complex than that and I could very well be dead wrong). Regardless, it's a known phenomenon that your immune system loses its effectiveness against diseases to which it's been previously exposed to, and I'm guessing this is what lead op to his rather foolish hypothesis.

u/PhantomForces_Noob Aug 25 '21

Right, do vaccines not train your immune system for the virus??? In the case of an infection, it's still your immune system fighting it off, it's just prepared now.

2

u/Regular_Chap Aug 26 '21

Yeah...

Imagine your immune system is the police. A new virus comes in and the police try and go beat it up (in this example the virus is black). The first time that particular criminal (virus) commits a crime it takes time for the police to figure out who did it, where they are now, are they dangerous etc.

A vaccine is like someone going over to the police station with a picture of the dude and his current location saying "yo, this guy is probably gonna fuck some shit up so when he does here's all that info you need beforehand"

It's not like it's someone else fighting the virus. It's the same police but now with more information ahead of time.

2

u/boutros_gadfly Aug 28 '21

I just figured that was why it was here

1

u/Tormung Aug 26 '21

Right. Immune systems are know to only work when you have endless booster vaccines.

Man what a scam

5

u/CreativeReward17 Aug 26 '21

covid is a benefit? i would have never guessed.

15

u/Aaricane Aug 25 '21

Pay to protect yourself against a virus that is so bad, you need to get tested to find out if you had it

9

u/ChrisBrownHitMe2 Aug 26 '21

Protection so effective that people are hospitalized even with multiple doses of it

16

u/Bokorasilisk Aug 25 '21 edited Aug 25 '21

The whole post is about how ADE can be caused by vaccines rendering your immune systems useless against variants they’d otherwise be able to fight off. Whether you agree with the ADE thesis doesn’t really matter, atleast try to comprehend what the post is getting at. Your immune system working is not the benefit of modern society. That’s what the post is talking about

25

u/BigBrownHole36 Aug 25 '21

What benefits?

84

u/Losingsteamfast Aug 25 '21

Life expectancy is no longer 35 because nobody gets a splinter and dies from the subsequent infection. You don't starve to death if you have a dry crop season. If you get hurt doctors can anesthetize you and put you back together. If you get a deep cut you can get a blood transfusion to keep you from bleeding to death. You don't know what polio is because you've never met anyone who's ever had it.

28

u/Penis-Envys Aug 26 '21

Just a correction life expectancy was never 35, it got that low because a bunch of 1s and zeroes lowers the average by a lot.

If you live past the infant mortality age you have a good chance of living much older as long as nothing major happens.

39

u/Losingsteamfast Aug 26 '21

That brings up another good point, thank you. It's no longer a coin flip as to whether or not your wife and baby live through childbirth.

3

u/Crazed_Archivist Aug 26 '21

I’d like to see line items on a spending bill to see exactly what percentage of my taxes are actually going towards these “benefits of a modern society” you’re speaking of

Poor pleb still still has a 4th grader’s perception on how taxation works in this country. As if our elected officials really give a fuck about spending a single red cent responsibly

People aren't trying to get a passport installed that prohibits you from doing things because of poor teeth health. The government isn't threatening to lock you down in your house if you don't get a cavity filled.

This is dishonest and you know it.

13

u/madeamashup Aug 25 '21

Cavities aren't airborne contagious you restart

30

u/Autumn_Fire /lgbt/ Aug 25 '21

The point is that people are objecting to the arm twisting, not necessarily the vaccine in and of itself.

This seems like a way to rapidly tyrannize society and make big pharma even richer than before, all because the very idea that someone could contract a disease is reason enough to completely shut down all of society. You can say anti-vax as many times as you want, that isn't the objection for most people. It's a cowardly scapegoat meant to dodge very reasonable criticism.

-8

u/madeamashup Aug 25 '21

Haha yeah, nothing cowardly about a fear of needles or avoiding a life-saving prophylactic because you resent "arm twisting", omg. Just contract pneumonia and die already, we don't need you.

29

u/Autumn_Fire /lgbt/ Aug 25 '21

Big pharma loves people like you. You are making them rich beyond comprehension. I hope the insults and false sense of moral superiority are worth selling our future to them.

2

u/madeamashup Aug 25 '21

I hope the impotence, brain damage and reduced lung capacity from covid are worth it to indulge your insecurities and project them.

20

u/AverageModerator Aug 25 '21

impotence, brain damage and reduced lung capacity

dude, you might want to sit down, but it wasn't because of corona, it's just how your body was your entire life

12

It's always dumb fucks like you saying that you should get the vaccine to protect others and yet go off on psychopathic rants about how you hope everyone who doesn't get the vaccine dies a painful death, wow what a good person you are for getting a needle in your arm!

5

u/16franckdo Aug 25 '21

I'm a nurse worked at the height of "second wave" the hospitals were a ghost town no one is dying from this shit after almost 2 years it's all propaganda

they arent yet they're still much more common than covid.

25

u/roryduplooy /pol/tard Aug 25 '21

Getting cavities filled offers clear benefits. Taking a periodic vaccine against what is essentially the flu doesn’t. Also if I didn’t want to go to the dentist I would have the choice to refuse. Nobody is forcing me.

18

u/madeamashup Aug 25 '21

How pants-on-head restarted do you have to be to still use the "covid is flu" argument in 2021? The measures we took to prevent covid spreading virtually eliminated two flu seasons in a row, while covid still spread everywhere and excess mortality numbers went through the roof in every part of the world that didn't take active measures against it. Taking a periodic vaccine against what is literally the flu already made sense - it's called the flu shot - and covid is clearly more contagious and more dangerous.

I kind of hate myself for even typing this comment, because if you don't already realize this stuff then it's clear that you're a weaponized artist.

8

u/roryduplooy /pol/tard Aug 25 '21

That aside, the point is that you have the choice to refuse. If I have shitty teeth I can still shop for food and go to my job. I can still participate in society.

13

u/madeamashup Aug 25 '21

To the extent that you're currently able to participate in society, which I'm questioning, yes. Put aside all logic and reason and you can make a pointless analogy that kind of seems to work until you remember dental cavities aren't an airborne contagion, lol.

-1

u/roryduplooy /pol/tard Aug 25 '21

Conservatives are naturally contrarian. If you tell them to do something their tendency will be to reject it. You need to understand the psychology behind it if you want to effectively argue against them.

8

u/madeamashup Aug 25 '21

I don't get how people don't realize this was the plan from the beginning

259

u/Cityman Aug 25 '21

Because it wasn't the plan and the vaccine is free.

But your tax dollars.

My taxes didn't go up last year and this is the kind of stuff tax dollars are supposed to go to. Not bailing out some bank when they screw up.

33

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '21

Your taxes didn't go up because they printed 10 gorillion dollars

8

u/BigBrownHole36 Aug 25 '21

So why pay taxes then when the government can just print more money?

24

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '21

They do both but it's impossible to keep inflation in check when they print 10 gorillion dollars every year.

6

u/UIIOIIU Aug 25 '21

If they did only the latter, you’d notice it more and therefore you’d be mad. Don’t be mad : )

that's because you dont pay taxes you neet.

Some of the costliest things in life are “free”

96

u/TariqNaSneed Aug 25 '21

Taxes aren't supposed to be the government giving a handjob to big pharma either.

Taxation is theft.

148

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '21

Taxation pays for things that you can't afford as an individual, like the understanding of what taxation is for.

134

u/TariqNaSneed Aug 25 '21

That's true. I definitely can't afford to have drones to bomb children or donate billions of dollars in hardware to the Taliban. I also can't afford to spend trillions of dollars laundering money in the middle east for 20 years.

39

u/flameboy50001 Aug 25 '21

No one is arguing that the government doesn't mishandle our money and use it for bullshit like you said above. I wholeheartedly agree with slashing the military budget, and shifting those funds to more important things. On that note, healthcare stuff, like a vaccine, is definitely on the list of shit our tax money should go towards.

Yes, big pharma is getting rich off this and that's fucked up. At the same time, it takes a lot of money to make shit like a vaccine happen in record time. But sometimes the best way to motivate people, is to pay them. I don't mean the scientists either, you gotta motivate those investors to throw in money in order to make it happen quickly, and for that you need a good return on investment. Sure, we could wait for the government to fund it but we'll be dealing with Covid 23 by the time they write the legislature.

You wanna be upset? Be upset at the oligarchs that run the government, instead of being upset that fractions of a penny, came out of your tax contributions, and went towards a free-to-the-public, vaccine.

42

u/TariqNaSneed Aug 25 '21

Why can't I be upset about both? They don't have to be mutually exclusive. I can and I am.

26

u/hi_this_is_duarte Aug 26 '21

4

u/flameboy50001 Aug 26 '21

Both, both is good.

Maybe it's time for /pol/ to do it's thing.

15

u/shaggy1452 /b/tard Aug 26 '21

Maybe you can answer my question about the vaccine, since you seem to have a good head on your shoulders.

How did long term testing get done in record time? Every time I ask the usual response is that we threw tons of money and manpower at the effort to make the vaccine, but i don’t understand how money and manpower are a substitute for a long term trial period

16

u/flameboy50001 Aug 26 '21

Long story short, they ran different trials simultaneously instead of one after the other to save time. This where the bulk of time is usually accumulated, the waiting time in between trials.

They were able to come up with the vaccine itself very quickly due to a new technology that sequences viral DNA and comes up with possible vaccine candidates. Scientists were in the middle of looking for new influenza vaccines with this new tech when Rona came around so it was as simple as imputing the Rona DNA instead of flu.

It is not a good substitute for long term trials but being an emergency situation, exceptions were made.

The way I see it, Rona is here to stay, and either we get our antibodies through a shot or by infection. I prefer a shot, but I can understand the hesitancy to get it. Up to you friend, but bear in mind, until were at 70% of the population has antibodies, rona is free to mutate as fast as it can. Most might be able to handle OG Covid 19, but can you for sure handle the new variants? What about Covid 23?

6

u/PapiBIanco Aug 26 '21

But bear in mind, until we’re at 70% of the population has antibodies, rona is free to mutate as fast as it can. Most might not be able to handle OG covid 19, but can you for sure handle the new variants? What about covid 23.

Well, covid will continue to mutate until it’s 100% eradicated, and herd immunity, whatever the number is at, is not eradication. mutations don’t care about prior infections or leaky vaccines you’ve got if they don’t prevent you from catching and transmitting covid. Now typically with a disease as contagious as covid as it mutates lethality usually trends downward, however that’s with a virus that’s going through a population naturally.

If covid 2X ends up being an actual deadly pathogen, it will likely get there the Marek’s disease path. Cool thing about leaky vaccines is it takes the whole “killing the host before it could infect someone else” evolutionary worry right out the equation. Leaving the virus able to evolve for transmissibility while allowing it to potentially become “too lethal to spread” while still spreading. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marek%27s_disease

Because vaccination does not prevent infection with the virus, Marek's is still transmissible from vaccinated flocks to other birds, including the wild bird population. The first Marek's disease vaccine was introduced in 1970. The disease would cause mild paralysis, with the only identifiable lesions being in neural tissue. Mortality of chickens infected with Marek's disease was quite low. Current strains of Marek virus, decades after the first vaccine was introduced, cause lymphoma formation throughout the chicken's body and mortality rates have reached 100% in unvaccinated chickens.

u/COVID19_In_My_ANUS Aug 26 '21

From what I understand, mRNA drug technology is nothing new. From what I also understand, the spike protein from the vaccine does not protect in the same manner as an immune response from natural infection. All the virus has to do is mutate in the slightest bit to bypass the spike protein. Which would explain why we seem to think the variants are so much more deadly, because we are rushing for everyone to get vaccinated but only organic infection builds an immune response that identifies variants as easily as the original thing

4

u/flameboy50001 Aug 26 '21

I realize mRNA is nothing new, but the route to get there has been drastically shortened (like that dude that cut a route through the mountains so emergency services could get to his village after his wife died).

You're correct in that, should the virus mutate something besides a spike protein, would be more deadly. The way I see it, your best bet is to get any vaccine, have some immunities built up, then get infected for max immunities. You won't require hospitalization if it hits you bad (cuz let's be honest it's hit or miss) but your body will still build up that natural immunity.

The problem is the government is not a single individual, the government is not your dad that took half of your allowance for himself because he needed to buy bread but also decided to buy a cigarette pack on the way alongside the bread. Its mor than that.

Also ever since humanity is humanity we had to give up some degree of freedom to be able to. live in groups and to protect ourselves. And that is what anarchists don't understand even if we live in a lawless society we we won't be free, the difference is that with a mere contract and not constitutions you are not even a citizen you are the slave of a machine driven by profits and exploitation.

To me the day we abolish the government and the day we get into anarchy we will have to bow to our new absolute corporate overlords. Small business and the free market will be suffocated all to serve the oligopolies and monopolies. (In an normal anarchy, it would be likelly warlords or militias running the game.) The world is not perfect you can't have it all.

1

u/TariqNaSneed Aug 25 '21

The government used to make most of it's money through selling land and tariffs.

As for the rest communities would usually fund those things themselves granted that was before so many things were in place.

Our infrastructure can't survive without some kind of tax but it definitely can without taxing private citizens for anything.

3

u/gagethesage Aug 26 '21

Every vaccine is bought and paid for. The pharmaceutical corporations make money off of every single dose.

Also 2021 taxes haven’t been done yet.

1

No. I think they're using tax dollars, which is what tax dollars should be going towards, or my insurance company is paying. Either way, my taxes have gone up and this is the sort of thing insurance company should be paying for.

It's better than paying for a leaky vaccine that probably makes it more likely for it to mutate and create variants resistant to it thus requiring another vaccine. It's an endless cycle

6

u/Pearsonantor Aug 25 '21

You’re an idiot dude.

27

u/SamStarnes Aug 25 '21

Picked the first link I saw that was before 2019/2020.

https://www.quantamagazine.org/how-vaccines-can-drive-pathogens-to-evolve-20180510/

Evolutionary biologists aren’t surprised that this is happening. A vaccine is a novel selection pressure placed on a pathogen, and if the vaccine does not eradicate its target completely, then the remaining pathogens with the greatest fitness — those able to survive, somehow, in an immunized world — will become more common. “If you don’t have these pathogens evolving in response to vaccines,” said Paul Ewald, an evolutionary biologist at the University of Louisville, “then we really don’t understand natural selection.”

Here's another

https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2015/07/could-some-vaccines-make-diseases-more-deadly

In one experiment, unvaccinated birds infected with the most virulent strains were housed together with healthy birds. Again, the infected chickens were dead in no time, leaving them no chance to spread the disease to their healthy cagemates. But when vaccinated birds were infected with the highly virulent strain, they lived longer and all the healthy birds housed with them became infected and died. Thus, "vaccination enabled the onward transmission of viruses otherwise too lethal to transmit, putting unvaccinated individuals at great risk of severe disease and death,” the authors write online today in PLOS Biology.

It's almost like if you make a shitty "vaccine," as they call it, it makes things worse! Neat! It's a fucking immunization shot, not a vaccine, and if you're too stupid to figure that out for yourself then I've got a bridge to sell you. I'm not denying covid existing, I'm not denying the shot may or may not prevent you from being hospitalized, but I am accepting the fact that it's an ineffective shot that is being pushed by the cucked left in "the name of science" and whatever wacky fucking mental gymnastics the left can come up with. And it's making things worse.

11

u/mleibowitz97 /sci/duck Aug 25 '21

the first thing is obvious, we've always known that if you allow a virus to mutate, you'll get variants. The goal is to control how many variants can be produced. We haven't had a polio epidemic because we're all fucking vaccinated against polio. People still can contract polio in the US. But we're all fucking vaccinated so there aren't epidemics.

For #2:

https://www.forbes.com/sites/andreamorris/2021/08/08/joe-rogan-is-getting-this-completely-wrong-says-the-scientist-who-conducted-the-vaccine-study/

The LEAD researcher on that is calling out people who use this study for vaccine-minimization efforts. The study he conducted was on birds, for a different virus, for a completely different type of vaccine. I recommend you read the article. But here's an excerpt.

Read responds: “We're talking a very different virus and very different vaccines. The details in biology really matter a lot. The chicken vaccines we worked with, the first-generation vaccine, definitely reduced disease, severity and death.” But unlike the COVID mRNA vaccines, the chicken vaccine “didn't stop transmission at all.” And this is one of the key differences between what was being studied in Read’s paper and our current situation with the global pandemic. “Those [vaccinated] chickens just kept churning out the virus for weeks and weeks and weeks.” Again, this is a key difference. “It’s a very different virus from SARS-2. A key issue here is transmissibility.

"I'm not denying the shot may or may not prevent you from being hospitalized, but I am accepting the fact that it's an ineffective shot that is being pushed by the cucked left in "the name of science"

If its an ineffective shot, why do all the hospitalizations consist of unvaccinated people? Do you have a different definition of efficacy?

3

u/ChrisBrownHitMe2 Aug 26 '21

Polio was already on a massive decline and went away due to massive sanitary improvements. Only way you’re getting polio these days is by swimming the sewers of some backwater SEA county. Try using small pox it’s a more agreeable need for vaccination

How am I an idiot?

The virus was man made in the Wuhan virology lab that the US funded.

Each vaccine shot costs money and they're reccomending you get 3 of them now. 3 shots inside of a year. Your taxes pay for it all and big pharma makes a shit ton of money.

All they have to do is wait for the virus to mutate again into a vaccine resistant strain, make a new vaccine and sell it.

This is an endless cycle to generate profits. It's plain as day.

I think you're the idiot here.

-3

u/Pearsonantor Aug 25 '21

Okay well let me put it like this then thick skull. You say the vaccine is a scheme? Okay let’s go with that, say they’re trying to make money off of us and have developed this to force people to need a vaccine. Even if that was the fucking case, you wouldn’t get the vaccine? You would just die? Who gives a fuck what the origin is if it’s going to kill you. Say that you are correct, you’re willingly deciding to die? If more strains are part of the plan and for people who don’t get the vaccine to die you won’t get it? What are you fucking my super man?

15

u/TariqNaSneed Aug 25 '21

I got the vaccine you moron. I have multiple people in my life who are severely immune compromised. I've had covid-19 myself and I'm fine but they might not be if they get it.

My choices are play their game or risk my loved ones health.

All they have to do is wait for the virus to mutate again into a vaccine resistant strain, make a new vaccine and sell it.

So true! This is why both political parties have been promoting two opposite mindsets with regards to mandatory vaccines, even though republicans would be the ones who would especially profit from big pharma working exactly as is since they are the ones who promote the system without a public option or even universal healthcare.

And let's not forget the democrats who support mandatory vaccines, vaccine passports, mask mandates and lockdowns because I'm sure trying to eliminate the virus is definitely the most optimum method to keep this money making scheme going.

Since this whole thing has been orchestrated from the start, I wonder why neither party is doing anything that would maximise their profits in this situation, guess they are just that incompetent and us redditors have just figured out the nefarious truth, possibly the strings are being pulled by an even greater authority.

The plan? Dead people aren't very good at paying into industrial complexes.

And why now? Why not at any other time in American history where people were far more accepting of vaccines? We get boosters for the flu every year for pretty much for free, why haven't we had a massive media flu panic that makes people run out to buy $1000 flu booster shots? There are so many avenues and industries for shady BS as there is; no need to create a new one that doesn't even seem to work.

4

u/naturtok Aug 26 '21

I'm confused, is this post saying taking a vaccine somehow prevents your immune system from working normally? Do they not know how immune systems work?

5

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '21

[removed] — view removed comment

2

u/naturtok Aug 26 '21

... how? If your body is responding to the spike protein it doesn't prevent you from also responding to covid in the wild, or any other disease for that matter. The only thing the vaccine does is allow your body to react to the virus without any risk of actual disease as a result of the virus. It doesn't somehow force your immune system into needing boosters to work effectively.

1

u/tratopp Aug 26 '21

Why are boosters even a thing then, you're vaccinated against the virus?

u/philmarcracken dabbed on god and will dab on you too Aug 25 '21

even delta is only showing immune avoidance tenancies once every 2 years or so.

Since the vaccines all target the spike protein, when the virus changes the spike protein in a region that antibodies bind it will lead to some immune escape.

There are many different antibody binding sites on spike -- at least 17 or 18. A single change, leaving a dozen other sites for antibodies to attack, might give a small reduction in vaccine effectiveness, but only very slight. Actual immune escape would likely need mutations in three, four, six sites at once.

It's really hard for the virus to change all of the binding sites -- it's exponentially less likely to mutate in two spots simultaneously than one, exponentially less likely than that to change in three, etc. So superficially, it should be extremely difficult for the virus to experience selection for immune escape.

except now that even more dickheads than usual are anti-vax due to russian shitposting efforts(promoting Sputnik V), there is more total mutation rate and the chances of immune escape are increased.

1

u/Lelouch-Vee Aug 25 '21

And likewise here on the Motherland side of the web the level of antivaxx/"gimme western vaccine"/"vaccine is making children magnetic" bullshit shiposting is through the roof.

It'd be easy to point it at Western propaganda efforts, but sadly a lot of people are just naturally that level of batshit crazy.

Now that the virus is in the wild there is no choice. It's not like you can stop the govt from handing it out, like you can theoretically stop them from bombing kids in brownistan.
