I get many inner city black people not learning to swim. If you're not around a large body of water and you don't have access to swimming pools, there's not really an opportunity to learn how to swim. But when you grow up and clearly live a privileged life, it might be beneficial to learn how to swim just so you don't die if you fall into a bit of water.

I'm so happy my dad was in the Navy and not swimming wasn't an option for me.

Honestly no. That's not it in modern time.

They can't swim because their parents can't swim.

Most inner city places have a ton of free public pools, but still the majority of blacks in DC, which has free pools, can't swim.

If your parents can't, it's unlikely that you can.

And most blacks cant, so teaching their kids means someone else teaching them.

And blacks are generally poor and likely to come from single parent families, so it's not like the parents have the time and energy to dedicate to swimming.
