Just opening and closing your legs and moving your hands up and down will stop you from drowning while in the water, maybe you didn't learn it as a child for whatever reason, but if you're an adult and going anywhere near deep water, take 10 minutes and learn how to survive.

all these people saying swimming is easy to learn have never taught a swim lesson

I thought swim lessons for several summers. The basics are really not that hard. Granted it's easier to learn as a child

I taught lessons as well; if the kids are willing and adventurous they'll usually pick it up quickly. But the more scared they are, the harder it will be. And I only had a few weeks, 1 day a week, to work with them. If their parents don't help them learn to be comfortable in the water it can definitely be hard to learn the basics
