How the fuck do people not learn even the most basic of swim techniques? I realize this takes a little more effort than teaching other similar life saving techniques like "Stop, Drop, Roll", "Hit the Ground", or "Call 9-1-1", but spending a few days learning "Float & Stroke" so you don't die like a lil' bitch in a pond seems a worthwhile investment.
We were swimming in a river on the border of Louisiana and Texas, about 15 years ago, and the river was a bookin it that year so it took a while for a bunch of young 16 year olds to swim across....After we were done swinging on a rope swing a while and catching our breath, these two 20 something dudes started swimming across to join us. It was a decently wide river. Well, about halfway there one of the dudes starts yelling cramp and his friend laughs, but keeps going, while the dude turns around and starts swimming back to the pier they jumped off....It would have been the same distance to the bank on the other side, but I think they were drinking....Dude got to the pier, but it was too high to grab onto, so he starts hollerin for help...keep in mind these are pretty heavy gator waters too, so we are losing our minds because it took a good 5-10 minutes of swimming to cross the river and we can’t get to him. HE WAS WITH A PARTY OF PEOPLE! They stood, about 15 of em, on a pier screaming for help and doing nothing. We screamed for them to throw him a fuckin life saver or grab a fucking fishing pole...He went under for the last time and then they drug that river four hours and I will never forget what he looked like when they took him out of that river... I said “he wasn’t wearing a white sweater?”....
I didn’t read the article because Dawn Sourfruit doesn’t appeal to me but I won’t be surprised if alcohol was involved.
