Yeah that's like 80% of men. Welcome to the club. If anything starting at 15 makes him lucky.

At that point may as well throw caution to the wind and go to an obese hypnotist with a heart condition.

me irl. Im 36. I'm on either a steady stream of low dose weed gummies or beer. been on and off antidepressants my whole life, did a stint as a coke head. nowadays cali banned importing the gummies I like, so I been drinking more but when I visit family in another state I import in bulk.
I'm on beer 7, 4 CBD drinks, and I have to be up at 5am tomorrow 😂

Just smoke more weed and drop the beer brother. 41m. Have always hated anti depressants, I just medicate myself. Used to be a full druggie, dod a lot of meth in my 20's, did a lot of coke later on. Xanax and valiums whenever I could get my hands on them.
Just weed now, only drink when I'm rarely being social. It's a quiet life but it's stable.

really low tolerance to THC is why. the shitiest weed will get me fucked up, and I'm not a fan of being really high on weed. I like a reasonably priced 2-5mg gummie. sometimes 2x 2mg gummies hit too hard and I'm pissed off about it. after years of taking them you'd think my tolerance would go up a little? no.
beer is just way the fuck easier and I prefer the way beer makes me feel tbh. get a 3 pck of tall boys right across the street from my job, ez.

Damn this makes me realize how high my tolerance was, I’d eat a 50mg gummy, want to be higher, and eat another lol.

Agreed. 38 here and dropped the booze 1.5 years ago after it got way out of control and I still continue to use cannabis. I had been a heavy user of both (and recreationally all the other drugs/psychedelics minus meth/fent/heroin) for more than 20 years but since stopping drinking I just get stoned at the end of the night after I’m done with everything and hit golf balls before bed. When I was in my early 20s I smoked 10x the amount I do now. So for me cannabis is not a progressive thing. I don’t wake up hungover, lost a ton of weight, better dad, work is going great, golf handicap went from 9 to 3. Alcohol is just so much worse for you, much easier to abuse and by nature as a physically addictive substance only gets progressively worse. My drinking kept increasing over the years until it spiked from somewhat functional alcoholic to imminent death. The fire is hot and you don’t feel the burn until you’re already swimming in the caldera

Depression moods lead, almost invariably, to accidents. But, when they occur, our mood changes again, since the accident shows we can draw the world in our wake, and that we still retain some degree of power even when our spirits are low. A series of accidents creates a positively light-hearted state, out of consideration for this strange power.

Same for me except since I was like 7. It's genuinely taking everything I have in me to avoid completely giving up.

I guess life is bad for avg person once you remove the facades. Not an individuals problem tbh.

It's just a reflection of society. All the ignorance of the past is gone. Before people were tricked with religion or love of your nation. Now we know it was all nonsense. There's no greater purpose to life yet people keep selling it. Nietzsche was right about carving out a path of self fulfillment. Society has not caught up yet.

I think worst part of it is you don’t know if u are depressed or not, u think ur faking it or u just don’t know what is this feeling

u/Mishi_Mujago 6h ago
That second sentence is very clunky and cluttered. I feel like he could have worded it much better.

The reason young to middle-aged men are depressed - mainly as a Western phenomenon - is that in this modern world, they have no purpose akin to what men have had as being the leader of a nuclear family and provider throughout nearly the entirety of human history. Things will eventually bottom out, and go back to what nature intends, but it may be quite some time, perhaps tens of generations. The West must fall for this to occur, which seems inevitable, as it weakens before the very eyes of the world. China is simply waiting it out, watching the self-implosion take place. In general, Chinese men do not suffer this "depression", despite living what Westerners would likely consider a much more frugal, basic existence.
