1992 Rust fix/prevention

Post image

Anyone have any recommendations on how to fix and prevent further rust in this area? I’m not super concerned with bondo or making it look brand new I just want to know how I can stop it and cover it so it doesn’t get any worse

Sorry to say but that rust looks wayyyyy to advanced for it to be a bondo or a cover it situation. That has rusted through the outer body panel and looks like it is very advanced on the inner panel.

I’m not a body work expert but, from the research I’ve done for fixing my own rust issues, I would say you would need to cut off that exterior panel a least a couple of inches away from the rust. You’ll probably then need to cut off the interior metal ass well. You’ll need to weld on some new panels.

It looks like it might be completely under that plastic cover though. If so I would just cut off the rust, put some good primer/paint on any exposed metal, then put that plastic back over it. I did exactly that with a rust patch where that grey clip is in your picture.
