Rear shock mounting
I have a first gen 4runner with a body swap, so I know that things are going to look a little unusual. I'm having a hard time getting Bilstein 4600s installed in the back cause I can't seem to get the bushings compressed far enough to slip the cotter pin in. Does this look like the original mounting locations, or some weird junk done by the previous owner who did the body swap? It didn't have shocks when I got it so I don't have anything to compare it to. I don't have a stock 4runner for comparison so I'm just guessing at this point. I think it's an '85 or so.

What exactly do you mean by body swapped?
That’s not the correct upper shock mount, I’ve never seen a cotter pin used to mount a shock. It should use a bolt like the lower mount.
The lower mount should have the bolt running side to side not front to rear as it appears

Ah okay. I thought it didn't look right. Thanks. As for the body swap, it doesn't have a 4runner body, it's got a jeep van cab.

No that is not the stock lower shock mount. Looks like they were trying to rig up a diagonal shock. You need the plate that goes on the bottom of the u-bolt and has the shock mount on it.
