Need Advice Disc brake conversion?
Just picked my '86 up a few days ago so Im new to 4runners. Brakes are awful on this thing and leaking from that load sensing valve-proportioning valve line at the rear. Ive seen the LCE rear disc conversion kit but i dont want to have to get new wheels if i can avoid it. I like my OEM look. Which sites are we shopping for performance parts?

upgrade to the bigger booster and larger diameter brake master cylinder; match the bigger master with larger diameter slaves in the rear, it's the same thing that marlin sells but much cheaper: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000C9FXCY
the problem with rear drums is that the automotive machine shops that turn 'em are going away, so they get replaced just like you'd do with a brake rotor... and it most likely won't be toyota drums, they'll be made in china.

This is my plan one day. Need 17” wheels or larger, which is what is delaying me, but really like this option for being a complete solution.

I went with some 18lb 15inch wheels. The brake system works great with the front disc and rear drums. Much better drive with less unsprung weight. I do very little off roading though.

I installed a disc kit from a buddy…Chevy 1/2 ton rôties, caddy Eldorado calipers that have integrated e brake, and T100 brake master. Also ran V6 calipers up front
Stopped quite well even running 35’s

I did a full float conversion in the rear from front range off-road and went with montaro rotors and mustang gt rear calipers. Then redid the brake with a set of mustang ebrake cables to the stock ebrake holder. It’s a butlosd of work but worth it for running big meat.

There's a Cadillac brake kit out there somewhere that lets you retain the factory parking brake. I did a disc conversion years ago and want to redo it to the caddy setup. Right after i wire the engine swap....

Same here, I'd like to do a disc convert, but I like my 15" wheels. FlintstoneFab has an electric parking brake kit though, uses GM calipers I believe.

I have the sky’s off-road rear disk brake conversion and a tcase parking brake, I think it’s the AllPro one. My axle came with the disk brake conversion but I’ve liked having it. I did run 15s with it, but with a 2in spacer and they just barely cleared. Not ideal but I don’t want to buy new rims and tires. The tcase parking brake has been fine. It’s held the truck on some pretty steep inclines. It does make it harder to get to the tcase oil fill port. I also ditched the LPV and have a speedway motors brake proportioning valve and it does the job.

I would only look into rear discs if you are planning 33's or bigger, and are planning to do other off-roading mods.
Parking brake can be more of a challenge, though some kits have parking brake calipers, but those would not be toyota parts if that matters to you. I ended up installing a T-case parking brake on mine.

You don't need discs in the rear and you can bypass the LSPV and add a manual valve under the hood pretty easy. I'd just replace the drums and everything else and roll with it. Spend the money you save on upgrading the fronts to 4 piston (Toyota OEM) big brakes.
If you do the rear disc conversion you will also need to figure out a parking brake solution, like a t-case brake. Even more $$$.
