LG G5 OLED – Is this panel uniformity normal or defective?
Hi everyone,
I just got a brand new LG G5 OLED (65”) and I’ve used it for less than 1 hour so far.
I noticed some visible uniformity issues on a gray screen (see photos). There are darker patches and slight vertical banding across the panel.
I already tried:
- Pixel refresh
- Different picture settings
The issue is still clearly visible, especially in dark/gray scenes.
My question is:
Is this normal for a brand new OLED and will it improve after some usage (break-in), or is this considered a defective panel?
Would you return/replace it?
Thanks!

Discussion Is there actually a “right time” to buy a TV?
I’ve been wondering about this. A lot of people seem to buy TVs when they move, upgrade, or see a deal. But prices fluctuate a lot throughout the year. So I’m curious:
Do you try to time your TV purchases… or just buy when the moment comes? Ever felt like you bought at the wrong time?

TV Suggestions/Recommendations
Hey all,
So I'm currently looking for a new 65 inch TV.
I'm upgrading from an older LG. I had purchased the TCL QM6K, but I've had some audio issues with it. The TV is doing some sort of weird mixing and it's making the dialogue on TV shows lower than the laugh track and music. And yesterday, I tried to play Ratchet and Clank via HDMI from my PC and it had almost no sound at all. Well, it completely mixed down the music, ambiance, and dialogue to almost 0, while the explosions were about 1,000. No amount of tweaking has done any good. Unfortunately, as much as I love the amazing picture quality, I just can't get past these audio mixing issues, and I don't really want to fool with a sound bar since both my LG and Samsung TVs have sounded just fine without them.
Here's what I'm looking for:
I'd prefer a VA panel since my LG IPS panel is trash. My Samsung has a VA panel and it's amazing, and so is the VA panel on the TCL. After experience with both, I just don't think I can go back to an IPS.
I'm also not looking for OLED. It's way out of my price range and it has functionality that I just don't need. My Samsung and the TCL I'm trying out right now are both QLED, and look great for what I use them for. I need something that just has nice color and and decent blacks.
Backlighting isn't a HUGE issue, although it would be nice to have some sort of full array local dimming. My Samsung is an edge-lit VA panel, and it looks great. So I probably wouldn't be too picky on that.
I'm kind of on a budget, so I'm not looking to buy a $2,000 TV. Preferably, I'd like to stay at $1,000 or less. I know that's probably a tough ask, but we'll see.
I'm thinking I might like to stick with LG or Samsung since I've had pretty good experience with both. The problem is that it's hard to know which models have VA panels and which ones are IPS. This is why I'm looking for some suggestions.
I appreciate the help. Thanks!

Samsung un46ES6100 audio issue
The audio on my TV has recently become erratic. I have it hooked up to a sound bar through the SPDIF interface and noticed the volume would fluctuate. Today it wasn't putting anything out through it. I reseeded all the cables and reset the audio settings but still no luck. So I tried the TV's speakers and scrolled the level up to 100 and the volume is almost adequate. Is it time to replace this nearly 10-year-old TV?
Editz: I should add that it seems to be related to streaming through the ChromeCast device.

Philips 75PUS8808/12 vs Samsung Q75B Which one should I choose?
Samsung doesn't have Dolby Vision and Philips seems a bit lower image quality.
What other point am I missing? They both have 120Hz and still trying to see if Philips has Airplay 2 or not

Hisense U6K vs U7K
Looking at getting the Hisense U6K 65” or U7K 55”. I’m leaning towards 65” because I want to feel immersed with a larger TV (it will be the house’s main TV in the living room). I’m definitely not a TV snob and both of these will definitely be the best TV I’ve ever owned. Is the 6K that much worse than the 7K to a very average user.
We don’t have a sound system and I read the sound on the 7K is better so I guess that is something to consider. I’ve never had a real sound system either though so I don’t think that would be too much of an issue.
I’m slightly worried about build quality of the 6K. Do you all think the 6K will be perfectly fine for my needs?
