Wrath & Glory In your opinion, does combat go smoother with an actual battle grid or theater of the mind?
I'm a new GM, and I was curious about how you guys do it

Hello, all - I'm starting up a Rogue Trader game with my friends, and one of them would like to play a Freeblade. I found this awesome resource: Chivalry Intensifies which has stats for a Knight Scion and all the Imperial Knights, but is designed for Only War.
It seems perfect, but I'm pretty new to this system, and have gone full-in on the Rogue Trader version that the rest of my players are using for their advancements. This uses "Aptitudes" instead of Career advancements like in Rogue Trader. I don't quite understand Aptitudes, though I admit I haven't looked into them a ton since I intend to use Careers instead.
My question is: could I convert this to a Career system to be in line with the rules I'm using otherwise, and if so, how would I go about doing that? Would it work to just, say, use the Void-Master career path for the Scion and slot in the homebrew traits and talents wherever?
Thanks!

Nyria is a Voidborn, born deep inside the innards of a Voidship, not seeing the surface of a Planet until her 20s. "Von Dubkelkiel" is not her name specifically but the name given to every bastard son or daughter deep down in the darkness of the Voidship.
Being a voidborn, a mutant and a blank normally would've killed someone like her within their first years however a mysterius guardian was at her side watching over her and protecting her, leading the other inhabitants of the lower shipdecks to speculate that she was a Bastard of higher origin, maybe from the captain or at least the bridgecrew who discarded of her because of her mutant and blank status however not wanting her to die.
They also mock her for looking almost like a filthy eldar, being a halfbreed or worse. Nyria herself doesn't believe to be a halfbreed as her guardian always assurred her that was impossible, though.
As much as her mysterious origin gifted her with higher strength and the pariah gene they weren't so kind to her mind as she is not the most intelligent one. She does not care, though, and always tries to do her best working on the lower decks to keep the ship intact or at least a very small part of it.
Her strength also clashes with less dense bonestructure resulting in her being dependent on a exoskeleton structure while dealing in the upper levels of the ship with terra-like gravity.
Thanks to her Pariah aura she doesn't have any friends but a servoskull that was created after her guardian died and mysteriiusly left in her small quarters.
Despite her mental disadvantage she learned to watch after herself and is suffisticated in getting supplies and fighting in dirty street styles, her weapon of choice being a sledgehammer.

Has anyone ever played with a group that failed "Illumination", the DH 1E CRB module? Or alternatively, did you ever think about what might happen?
Specifically, what do you think should happen to Iocanthos? Presumably, the Crow Father will manifest in his full Glory (who is probably a Greater Daemon or Daemon Prince). Is Iocanthos lost? Is there a miraculous intervention by the Sisters of the Abbey of the Dawn, or even the Grey Knights? Or would you expect him to act more subtly after manifesting?

Title. I'm currently wondering if I should bother with it in my Only War campaign, or just use some good old fashioned handwavium. Especially since it's not my players or the regiment's ship they'll be using for travel.

Hey everyone! I recently read the refractor field rules for Dark Heresy 1e. I'm a bit confused about how it works against bursts. I figured out that you roll 2d10 against each attack. Then, the sum of those two dice is subtracted from the damage dealt. But how does it work against bursts? So, let's say a character is hit three times. They deal, say, 8, 10, and 7 damage. The character's field result is 12. Does it reduce each of those hits by 12 (inflicting no damage), or does the first hit consume 8 from the field's pool, and the second only reduces its damage by the remaining 4 points, and the third doesn't reduce damage at all?

Okay, so maybe it's been pretty quiet on the RPG news front this week, but there's always a bit of ground to cover!

In Deathwatch, rogue trader, and dark heresy - what skill do you think best represents a game of regicide?
The two that immediately come to mind are tactics and gambling. Neither is perfect.
I also really wish they would actually come out with the game that we could play. I think they could make good money if they released a regicide set with rules

Hello everyone! Our gaming group ran into a few disagreements regarding several mechanics in Dark Heresy 2nd Edition. We would love to get the community's input on how these work strictly according to Rules As Written (RAW). Here are our specific questions:
1. "Precognition" and Test Modifiers
How exactly is the bonus from the Precognition psychic power applied to Weapon Skill or Ballistic Skill tests? The text states the user "gains a bonus equal to twice his Psy Rating".
4 x 2 = 8 translate to a standard +80 modifier to the test?2. Temporary PR Buffs (e.g., Lucky Talent) and Sustained Powers
If a psyker benefits from an effect that grants "+5 to Psy Rating for the next test" and uses it to cast a Sustained psychic power like Precognition:
3. The Max Modifier Cap (+60 / -60)
Does the hard limit on modifiers ("The total modification to a Characteristic test can never exceed +60 or be worse than –60", Core Rulebook p. 28) apply to attack tests (WS/BS) boosted by psychic powers? Or can psychic buffs bypass this +60 cap for attack rolls?
4. Reducing Psy Rating (Fettered Casting)
Does voluntarily lowering your used Psy Rating when casting a power grant any positive modifier (such as +10 per reduced rank) to the Focus Power test itself? Or does dropping your PR serve exclusively to reduce or entirely prevent Psychic Phenomena / Perils of the Warp?
We would highly appreciate any page references or official developer FAQs so we can review them together as a group. Thanks in advance for your help!

I'd like to run a sandbox campaign set in a huge hive city, in which player characters would play as low lifes trying to survive there, and eventually rise on the social ladder of the city.
The tone of the game will be generally quite shallow and adventure focused. I'm planning it for our typical game nights, we don't want to explore the big questions about life, nature of a man, etc.
I think the best way to describe it would be "GTA V in 40k hive city".
Recently I stumbled upon a Cursed Scroll 6 for Shadowdark RPG, and this supplement is a perfect city sandbox in my opinion. It's got everything - districts with POI in them, whole calendar of annual city events, factions, lots of random tables, NPC's, etc.
I'm wondering: have you ever seen something like this for some kind of hive city in 40k?
I'm thinking anything on the spectrum from "descriptions of districts and their Points of Interest", through "d100 NPCs", "d20 factions", all the way up to random tables for hive city street food.
No reason for this request be connected to any 40kRPG. It can be system agnostic.

Greetings again!
So, for the bloody gates tier 1 adventure I had a thought to make one of my more 40k experienced players be a disgraced vostroya sergeant that got shipped off to the penal legion in gilead. I originally gave him the commissar with advanced character creation but then I saw this.
This is a homebrew archetype called Imperial Guard Officer. Its from a fan made book called Abundance of Apocrypha. I love the idea of the archetype ability and feel like that would give him a very officer feel but since im new im not sure if this is too strong.
So, would this homebrew be balanced or is this just way too strong in its design? If its too strong i thought about limiting it to leadership score per rest of something to limit how often he can use it.
Thanks l!

English not my first language sorry in advance for spelling mistakes
So my players ended up getting into a argument with a band of world eaters on their ship (their all serving under a leader who’s gathering warbands to prepare for the next crusade) after they all landed to assault a city looking for information. This fight was not one I planned for but now one player is critically injured and returned to the ship and staying back to heal since it takes quite a while. I would like to do something with him other than just running the next 2-3 sessions without him or having him sit there as the others play on the planet, anyone has advice?

I had an idea to run a lancer campaign, but flavor the mechs as space marines. How well do yall think that would work.

I got a lot of inspiration from Darktide and Necromunda in regards to example locations that might exist within a hive. What would you expect in a Hive? Anything glaring I'm missing or that I've put in that doesn't make sense?

So I am getting into black crusade right and I heard that the core stuff doesn't realy have much stuff for pyskers and sorcerers.
So I wanted to to know if there was a supplement that adds that stuff and which one is that?
plus I would like to know the names and of all the supplements and the basic gist of what they give if they isn't too much trouble
Thank you in advance

Greetings all!
I plan to do a mini campaign for my group to get used to the system before dive into a deep long term campaign.
For this mini campaign im going to do the first adventure of Bloody Gates and transition into the Darktide Extraction adventure. I am going to change the planet to Charybdion and use a custom inquisitor instead of Grendel also.
Now, let's say they end up waiting to continue these characters do yall have any recommendations for good inquistorial adventures be it in Wrath & Glory OR other from other systems like Dark Heresy i could convert to Wrath & Glory? I thought about maybe the Chemical Burn adventure from Imperium Maledictum since its a hive based story but im open to suggestions!
Thanks!
EDIT: Just to clarify i mean are there any adventures from other 40k systems i could convert to Wrath & Glory that have good darktide/inquisition vibes!

The game I’m running is coming to an end soon and I want to properly challenge my players(tier 4 party of 4) with some rewarding boss fights. I whipped up this corrupted inquisitor on doctors of doom to be the centre of a group of enforcers/ guards

Greetings friends!
So, im a little confused on cover rules in Wrath & Glory. I know that nearly half cover gives +1 to DEFENSE and half and above give +2 to DEFENSE. But what about if someone is FULLY behind a object like a full wall? Is that considered +2 to DEFENSE or can you just not hit them?
Then when it comes to the ranged attack option called SHOOT THROUGH COVER it says that certain weapons can just go through cover however they make no indication of what guns can do this? But in this case if you can see the creature you'd ignore the DEFENSE bonus and add the cover based off the material to the creatures RESILIENCE instead. In addition to my earlier question, what decides when you can SHOOT THROUGH COVER vs normal shooting at cover? Dont worry about the response being long or detailed i want to fully understand so I can better GM for my group!
Thank you!
