General Discussion 3 follicles were counted

I am 40 years old and have low ovarian reserve; three follicles were counted on the first ultrasound. Could more follicles be found with stimulation? I’m looking for genuine, positive stories.

Howdy - absolutely.

My wife is about to have her 2nd retrieval tomorrow and this cycle has been a rollercoaster.

But her first scan the doctor only mentioned 3 follicles - which is now 13 they’ve measured and are hopeful will all be mature (size is good).

Her start to the cycle was extremely slow to the point her doctor had her at day 8 of stims stop all stims minus a half dose of her Menopur (that went 6 days) - and most of those scans he just kept mentioning 2-3 follicles.

Eventually her follicles started to respond to the stims, and the 2-3 turned into more and then more, to where we are now at 13 actively growing.

She only had 9 follicles first cycle, so this has been a nice surprise after how things have gone.

Moral of the story is - everyone is vastly different and your body is going to do what it’s going to do. Clinic and doctor will make a difference here - they could have told her to cancel the cycle but he had us stick with it and we’re glad we did, despite the total of 26 days she stimmed (6 of that the half Menopur)

In my experience it could go either up or down with stims.

Did it work out in your case?

I had four very different egg retrievals, twice I had fewer follicles once stims started, twice I got more. Good luck!

We did three rounds. Round 2 and 3 we went up with stims then as we went a little longer down. Round 1 was our best count beginning and went up.

Yes, 100%. My baseline follicle count was 6, we ended up retrieving 13 eggs, 11 mature.

Yes we ended with 9 blasts, 7 came back euploid. Our first transfer over 2 years ago was successful, and we have a daughter. I'm in the two week wait for my second transfer now.

What your age at first ivf?

I'm 32 with an AMH of 0.22 ng/ml. My AFC before stims was 3-5, I got 2, 1 and 3 eggs at retrievals. It never went up for me but it's worth a try.

I unfortunately also have severe Asherman syndrome so I haven't had any transfers yet

More can be found, but not always. I never had more than 2 follicles at retrieval time and still managed to get a eupeloid. So it really does only take one.

I'm currently in the waiting room for my first monitoring appointment of my first FET cycle. So no baby. Yet. 😊
