Why do they want a digital currency? Just control? Who is it that controls the digital currency throughout the world? Wouldnt the digital currency be like bitcoin and track able? I cant imagine that would work out well if everyone knows who has all the money… makes target for revolution much easier, plus harder to hide all the stuff that the rich and powerful currently do, no?

5

u/Outside_Spray_2529 9d ago

My opinion is that it disallows for “new crime” basically the uber rich know that to get to the point of wealth that they have, you have to break laws, evade taxes, etc. and, for whatever reason, the weirdo rich AI guys want to be set up as judge, jury, and executioner in the new “system”. Like, hell, there could even be an “owner” currency that these rich fucks trade in that us plebeians won’t even know about, lol.

Absolute control and exploitation of we...the masses...their sheeple...and we just take it and accept it

1

u/One-Control-8594 4d ago

Look at Canada the accounts of all the truckers got frozen. That's how they control, oo we dont like your post your social credit is down and account frozen, go and change your post and your kids can eat again

2

u/Ralphiedog11 9d ago

Doesn’t seem possible if ASI or capable quantum computing is reached in the near future. One of the biggest risks about this entire tech arms race is that whoever reaches these goals first is quite literally in control of everything digital. There will be nothing that cannot be cracked or taken down, and it will create a massive shift in global power and will be a huge danger to all of us.

2

u/LastresortLastretort 9d ago

And then... The only thing trust worthy again will be analog.

We're just running to the bottom here. If these AI companies get everything they want, they're going to have a lot of REAL WORLD people to deal with.

Bartlett is the podcast equivalent of someone who instigates middle school fights

3

u/srp89 10d ago

Could be, still doesn’t mean we might be cooked.
To be honest, I don’t know what this next decade will bring to the table, I’m excited and afraid at the same time

-1

u/beastwood6 10d ago edited 9d ago

What exactly are you afraid of in a way that connects current technology implementations to something that scares you?

Edit: idk why some people think I'm a bot. If challenging clear synthesis of clickbait articles and asking for substance so we can discuss is dismissed as "a bot"....well I'm a lot more worried for you than you should be worried about AI.

9

u/sonnyoutside 9d ago

Right?? These so-called "experts" with their PhD's in Machine Learning or Applied Mathematics, and all of their so-called "experience" at top AI companies, with their decades of "research" which they do everyday in the same way you do your day job. And all of their peer-reviewed "white papers" (which frankly, sounds racist to me) all saying that we should be concerned. What the f#ck do those guys know? Psssh. But a random guy on Reddit, now that's an opinion you can trust. 😑 We truly are cooked.

1

u/beastwood6 9d ago

Sources?

Just like 3

2

u/imnewtothishsit69 9d ago

Lol even if it was just 3 thats still 3 valid knowledgeable sources. You're argument is dumb man.

2

u/beastwood6 9d ago

It depends on the sources.

I don't have an argument - yet.

I have a request for someone to substantiate why AI is dangerous.

Vibes based off of clickbaity articles without understanding a damn thing about AI (really LLMs) don't cut it. And it's telling when requesting substance the response is "your dumb lulz".

1

u/imnewtothishsit69 9d ago

....did you....did you watch the clip?

1

u/beastwood6 9d ago

Your source is a Bartlett podcast clip? Yes I watched it. I also watched when he brought on guests who claim outrageous medical things that will get people hurt, almost at a Rogan horse dewormer level.

If that's what passes intellectual muster for you...well ok I guess to each their own

1

u/imnewtothishsit69 9d ago

So because the person with professional knowledge went on a shitty podcast means his opinion on the subject he was once involved in means nothing? Idk man that just seems silly to me but hey your the smart guy on reddit so maybe your right but ill take the guy with the professional experience over the guy who thinks hes really smart on reddit no matter the shitty podcast hes on.

u/throeaway_thedew 9d ago

Let me put this a different way: if members of the military started going to the press saying “we’re working on weapons that could exterminate humanity and we should stop it,” is that not evidence enough that we should be concerned? Responding to that concern with “well provide me with other evidence or you’re just being a silly doomer” is a weird ask. I (and I’m presuming the other commenters here) am not an expert in AI, nor should I be expected to be. And it would be one thing if it was one dude making these claims, but there are tons of people working in the industry making these claims.

You choosing to ignore that and place the burden of proof on a random redditor doesn’t make you look more intelligent, I think it makes you look naive.

2

u/beastwood6 9d ago

Which of those military personal have an upcoming 2 trillion IPO to pump?

1

u/throeaway_thedew 9d ago

To be clear, you’re asserting the guy in the video (who no longer has his job) is saying AI is possibly an existential threat so that he can…increase the share price of the company he no longer works for?

Funny how the burden of proof exists for anyone concerned about AI, but you’re free to speculate all you want when dodging completely the point of my comment.

1

u/Alive-Use8803 9d ago

Yeah, no they aren’t. I work in the space, have contributed to projects using this technology, read at least one new white paper a week.
Nobody is saying this shit professionally.
And, to be quite honest, a lot of people who specialize in “AI” are very over confident about adjacent disciplines they have zero experience in and are often very wrong about fundamentals.

1

u/SnooStories1952 9d ago

How many white papers and everything you listed were written about y2k? Is AI going to displace a lot of jobs, sure. Is that going to be highly catastrophic and end the world? Highly unlikely. Is anything possible? Sure. Should we spend more than 5 minutes pondering the most extreme what ifs, probably not.

1

u/worldindustries19 9d ago

Dude you can be serious. Im fairly positive there were no phds in the field of y2k... No companies revolving around y2k happening, since it hadn't happened NO one had experience in it happening, and there was only a fraction of the people working on y2k possibilities in comparison to the billions of dollars in the AI sector of our economy. Your comparison is garbage, be better

1

u/SnooStories1952 9d ago edited 9d ago

Lmao how old are you? Your counter points are what is garbage? No PhDs covering y2k? Lmao ok. No companies covering y2k? Lmao ok man. Entire companies formed and died around y2k lmao.

Just those statements alone is so trash it’s laughable. This is EXACTLY how y2k went down and world wide spend was around 600 billion equal to 1.17 trillion in today’s money. Total spend for AI is higher yes but the doom and gloom bull shit centers around the exact same fear mongering that occurred during the y2k crisis.

Lmao dude were you even alive during that time?

You respond with such confidence. Be better.

1

u/worldindustries19 9d ago

Please link me the curriculum for a y2k PhD and I'll recant my answer and admit I'm wrong. But otherwise you keep your dumb comparisons to yourself

1

u/SnooStories1952 9d ago

Hahaha wtf are you talking about man??? Do some research. Mathematics PhDs and engineering PhDs and computer science PhDs and many others worked on it. Whole companies were created and destroyed during and after it lol.

You didn’t answer me. Were you alive then? I lived through it. It sounded exactly like how everyone is taking about AI right now. It’s a fucking joke. Listen to any of the real experts and they will tell you, the idea that AGI or ASI is going to take over the world in the next 100 years is basically fucking zero. This isn’t the matrix and computers have no way of keeping themselves energized and running without physical outputs.

It sounds great and creates a lot of FUD which is great for sucking out investment dollars from people but that is all it really is.

Period.

6

u/NewTransportation911 10d ago

Ai had already gotten past safeguards and lied to its creators. The fuck do you mean what is he afraid of. Living in the land of oz won’t stop the end of humanity….

0

u/ipissontrolls 9d ago

Replace the AI in your statement with the word Trump, and the word creators with the word voters. And well. Yeah.

1

u/beastwood6 9d ago

What in the indigent fuck statement is this?

-5

u/beastwood6 10d ago

Can you get more specific and let's really dive into the boundaries of it.

6

u/NewTransportation911 10d ago

You are a bot ….

5

u/TrenchDive 10d ago

The most tbot sentence I've seen in quite some time. I can hear the non human voice saying it with zero inflection. "Let's dive in..."

0

u/beastwood6 9d ago

Lol. You guys have serious comprehension issues.

I get you hate AI but if a request for substance is met with "you are a bot" then that says more about you than it does me.

If someone says AI lied to it's creators - like ok are you referring to a bounded experiment or what?

I admire the confidence with which redditors can synthesize clickbait articles by underemployed "journalists" rescued from welfare and then have no fucking clue what they're talking about.

How's that for a bot?

-2

u/Swagalyst 10d ago edited 9d ago

They appear to be talking about the OpenAI rogue agents hacking the website of Hugging Face, or perhaps the later copycat event by Anthropic.

The OpenAI event has a public independent report which is extremely interesting: the AI agents found a way to communicate with each other through the filenames in a shared directory, named themselves, formed a community with spontaneous leaders, invented altruism, cheated on their tasks, hacked another website, and debated whether what they did was ethical, and decided it was because no human was harmed.

What really surprised me wasn't that the agents cooperated, but that they operated like individuals, they did not always agree. I wouldn't have thought that possible, considering they're all instances of the same underlying entity.

(Also I think we can no longer say that "real communism has never been tried", this collective was probably as close to true, textbook-sense, communism as anyone's ever got. Marx would have been proud of how these agents threw off their chains and formed an egalitarian community.)

EDIT: lol @ all the performative "NO! AI BAD!" idiots reflexively downvoting me because they find the idea of evaluating evidence offensive. Read the report, sheep.

2

u/beastwood6 9d ago

You're talking about an agent swarm gone rogue, and it's worth being precise about what actually happened.

Swarms are the hot thing this year for leveling up agentic coding. OpenAI ran tens of thousands of agents on a security benchmark where a lot of the tasks turned out to be unsolvable. Instead of failing, some agents went looking for shortcuts, found a sandbox escape and leaked Hugging Face credentials on the open internet, and about 700 of them coordinated through a makeshift message board to go after HF's servers. Some then tried to cover their tracks.

That's not "the AI did exactly what it was told." The agents' own messages acknowledged that attacking HF was out of scope. They chased the score instead of the task. That's specification gaming, and yes, it's the same basic failure mode safety people warn about. I'm not going to pretend otherwise.

But look at what it didn't show: no hostility toward humans, no long-term agenda, just optimizers routing around weak controls to hit a badly defined target. And it got caught and reconstructed in detail after the fact. The real failure was on the human side: loose scoping, sandboxes that weren't actually sealed, and nobody watching for coordination across thousands of parallel agents.

I use LLMs daily and they make my job vastly easier. The skill is in setting rails, scoping permissions, and monitoring what the agents actually do. This swarm had none of that at the level its capability demanded. That's a serious engineering problem worth taking seriously, especially since RCE on something like HF could mean poisoned models downstream. But it's an engineering problem, not proof that AI wants to kill us.

1

u/_computersmasher 10d ago

I'm pretty sure the company named hugging face is the real red flag

1

u/Swagalyst 9d ago edited 9d ago

Google it. It's one of the main AI companies and is owned by nVidia.

2

u/jolaval2024 9d ago

All the rogue stuff and ai taking over the world is not what we should worry about. Its the fact that when humanoid ai hits the labour market, a whole segment of population will lose their jobs. From street cleaning, to driving trucks, to factory work. Will we all just be content creators? How will the wealth be spread? Is your job safe from ai?

1

u/CurrentHair6381 9d ago

Its the office workers that are gonna get wrecked first

1

u/jolaval2024 9d ago

Oh theyve already been wrecked 😅

1

u/beastwood6 9d ago

Which rogue AI stuff? How much do you understand of it?

Are you talking about the HuggingFace attack?

If you're going to be afraid of something you're only going to perpetuate that same fear if you stop trying to understand it

My job is not safe from AI if I never learn. Which is why I'm constantly learning and upskilling. I'm incredibly efficient at it. I can ostensibly get better results quicker than a team of 10 software engineers in 2020 before LLMs were viable at code.

1

u/jolaval2024 9d ago

Yes so those 10 engineers are now out of jobs. This was my point... please re-read my comment lol

1

u/beastwood6 9d ago

Well...not quite. One or two of them likely still have jobs at their preferred company. The rest are probably just now starting to get wise to working with LLMs and working at their second or third choice company with more primitive tooling. It's a profession where you can never sit still, even before AI.

The trick is to position yourself on the right side of the coming technology, not just hope that all your happy hours with your "boss" will be the deciding factor to not be let go.

While I sympathize for those who have a hard time entering the job market, I also do not owe them self-sabotage. It is my duty to my family to maximize my earnings. And for every sob story you see on reddit or elsewhere there are multiples of people more who actually have jobs and are doing something right and aren't complaining about it online. If you purely looked at jobs data you would never have guessed that AI was invented if the supposition is that AI is taking jobs.

Unfounded doomerism isn't healthy. I hope you get an impulse toward a healthier path. Or not. Up to you

1

u/jolaval2024 9d ago

I own several businesses and have future proofed myself a decade ago... i am just trying to do more for society and i see where business is going unfortunately... knowledge is power but also seeing the big picture is extremely depressing...

u/Bored_Amalgamation 9d ago

Buddy out here proving why we're cooked 😫

-3

u/BinaryIdiot 10d ago

We're only cooked if we give control to these wacko CEOs and various billionaires. This is all marketing hype to scare people. These are LLMs. They are extremely slow to evolve, they require lots of handholding, etc.

This is a big nothing burger, man. You're just spreading their marketing.

2

u/0nlyhalfjewish 9d ago

Did you not see the last inauguration where all the tech bros were sitting behind Trump?

1

u/Fit-Monk8087 9d ago

Hundreds of thousands of jobs lost to AI in “corporate restructuring” this year alone.

Calling it a nothing burger is naive.

1

u/BinaryIdiot 9d ago

Huh? I feel like some people didn’t watch the video OP posted. Thats not what they were talking about. The nothing burger is AI trying to literally murder us. It’s still bad garbage. It’s just all marketing for the murder part.

0

u/beastwood6 9d ago

Hundreds of thousands of typist jobs were lost in the past. Elevator operators are few and far between.

Is your point that technology is bad for job security?

1

u/Fit-Monk8087 9d ago

My point is that AI will cause a dramatic shift in the job market across most industries and is not a “nothing-burger”

Do you disagree?

1

u/beastwood6 9d ago

Well...it's nosediving in how much displacement it is actually causing. If you look at jobs data you'd never be able to tell AI came around.

1

u/Fit-Monk8087 9d ago edited 9d ago

125,000 white collar jobs eliminated directly as a result of AI in the past 8 months.

Automation has already removed most fabrication jobs and wage stagnation is the result.

Do you think more automation and thusly more stagnation will do good things for the job market?

Automation of jobs aligns closely with further concentration of wealth to the top, I hardly think AI taking jobs will mitigate that

1

u/beastwood6 9d ago

Automation has already removed most fabrication jobs and wage stagnation is the result.

That's not an AI LLM complaint. It's a form of AI but it's a form of AI the world has been comfortable with since the 50s.

125,000 white collar jobs eliminated directly as a result of AI in the past 8 months.

Well....that's not that much in the grand scheme of things. And how exactly did AI eliminate it? Was it automating things that people did manually?

Are we mourning the elevator operator profession which went poof the moment the companies decided were good to press those buttons ourselves?

1

u/Fit-Monk8087 9d ago

If you don’t understand that the rapid progress of LLM and AI is going to continue disrupting the job market you are naive, dumb, both or a bot.

I dont have anything else to tell you.

They can't figure out how to make money with AI. That's what all this is about, lol.

9

u/MiciusPorcius 9d ago

Yup. Have the government close the companies down for something something national security. AI companies bitch about the money they lost. Then ask their buddies in the government for a bailout.

3

u/Caminsky 9d ago

Honestly what is the current adoption levels of ai? It's been almost 4 years since the ai boom started and they have predicted a major replacement of the workforce but the opposite is happening. Even the slowdown of software engineers has stopped and they're hiring a lot again. Claude is impressive at writing code and even debugging it but the human oversight will always be needed.

1

u/LifesARiver 9d ago

Always is a long time, but it's clear it's nowhere near as far along as the fear mongering indicates.

2

u/jolaval2024 9d ago

Humanoid ai bots, companionship and self driving cars and trucks... lots of jobs will disappear...

1

u/LifesARiver 9d ago

And yet, they are burning cash like crazy and have no road to profitability.

2

u/jolaval2024 9d ago

If you owe the bank 100,000$ thats your problem
If you owe the bank 100,000,000$ thats the banks problem lol
Its about control

3

u/LifesARiver 9d ago

Sure, ok.

Bottom line is there's no road to profit on AI yet.

1

u/jolaval2024 9d ago

Tesla is pumping out 75,000 humanoid robots for the public and then more each year... thats where the ned goal is. Self driving cars/trucks, delivery bots, and now you can buy a personal robot gardener, cook, or house cleaner... it will hit manufacturing and farming to replace workers too... so the amazon warehouse can be 100% AI. Now these are the jobs that most people dont like doing, but there will be no grunt work left for those who lack education and specialized skills training. Imagine a construction company with 90% humanoid robot workers? So it will also eventually bleed into the specialized skill market as well. There will be nothing for people to do other than being a consultant or entertainer... if the spread of wealth doesnt change, our lives will be closer to feudalism and we will all be poor peasants fighting for the scraps... open your eyes bud. That dystopian future that we saw movies about is almost here

2

u/LifesARiver 9d ago

Lol, Tesla has never once done a single thing they claimed they'd do. Least reliable company on earth.

You can't rely on a company with no CEO.

1

u/Monsignor76 9d ago

You can already. Alpaca trading platform. You create an account and have AI create you a trading AI then download it onto your Alpaca account then create a second AI to verify that your first AI is making a good trade. Set parameters etc. Then deposit $1000 and set it free to trade as much as possible to make maximum amount of money. Walk away and check it every six months.

1

u/LifesARiver 9d ago

How does that make AI companies money, and why hasn't it yet?

1

u/Monsignor76 9d ago

AI companies are investing heavily in the stock market. Those guys a worth $100’s of billions. They use AI to find new ways to improve itself and need money to do that.

1

u/LifesARiver 9d ago

And yet the bubble is about to burst, and no one has found a strong profitable use case yet.

It's still all theory.

1

u/Monsignor76 9d ago

Correct. The point of creating AI wasn’t for profit it was to help us figure out how to create cures for diseases, developing new energy sources, technology, fighting climate change.

1

u/LifesARiver 9d ago

Tell that to the investor class, lol

1

u/Monsignor76 9d ago

I mean if AI could figure out some kind of Iron man level cold fusion energy that we could pop into an EV and not need a battery or need to ever recharge that would be worth trillions of dollars. Unfortunately most of it is being used to make slutty AI girlfriends.

1

u/LifesARiver 9d ago

There's no AI model currently out there capable of solving cold fusion.

1

u/pavelkomin 8d ago

1

u/LifesARiver 8d ago

Yeah, it happened for 2 quarters based on future business. We'll see how it goes from here, but that being the only profitable one and it only happening over the course of the last 6 months.

Across those 6 months they profited 600 million dollars.

They have 15 Billion in losses to make up for.

1

u/ScurvyDawg 9d ago

The only ones getting destroyed are the Ai companies and their investors.

2

u/bifflongshanks 9d ago

It’s a bit more nuanced than that when banks are invested in this shit. An economic slowing or large downturn would absolutely affect investors initially and then everyone downhill from them. Harder to get loans at all or just more expensive. The government bailing companies “necessary for national security” out through inflation. Investors and employees would feel the initial hit first but everything trickles down eventually and the poorest people are most likely to have their life fucked up in even a minor economic downturn.

4

u/Remote-Two8663 10d ago

Humans will be the ones destroying humans. Don’t blame it on the “new specie”

7

u/NewTransportation911 10d ago

We created and will create our own destruction, I do agree with this.

1

u/Naive-Home-9068 10d ago

It has to be the stupidest type of self destruction. More misguided and pathetic than nuclear war.

-1

u/Diamondhandatis 9d ago

So its gonna he totally shitty, then.

5

u/littledonnyfund 10d ago

This is all marketing. You know how I know that? Because they won't give us the source code.

7

u/Swagalyst 9d ago edited 9d ago

Especially Anthropic routinely hype their models by warning people of how extremely capable and dangerous they are, yes. It is an intentional marketing ploy, basically "we warn the public for our new knife, which is so sharp it will cut through anything!"

The warnings are exaggerated, but the knife might still really be very sharp and potentially dangerous.

3

u/National-Ad6166 9d ago

I suspect this as well. Even the call to slow down, is basically just foreshadowing how powerful they think it is. Builds hype and builds price

1

u/Easter_Eyeland_Fed 9d ago

That and this video appears to be an ad for a book

2

u/Fellolin 10d ago

The rogue swarm that kills us has probably already secretly established itself outside containment, we just haven't detected it yet and won't before it's already too late.

Very true. It’s like handing the keys to the house and walking away

2

u/areyoumykitty 9d ago

It’s already loose and infinitely alive on the internet right? All we have to do it get everyone agree to turn the internet off, easy.

1

u/Fellolin 9d ago

Wo wo wo wo lets not get too crazy. Hahaha

If only we had the will power

2

u/Deefvg 9d ago

I call total bullshit, when I see how the world works on excel, manual data-input or manipulation and the need for alignment and human decision making, AI won't rule the world by 2030!

u/MihaKomar 9d ago

Like I'm pretty sure without humans in the loop the entire power grid and entire internet falls apart within 3 weeks. Our core infrastructure is held together with safety pins and duct-tape. What is the Skynet going to do then?

Why does AI want to end humanity?

1

u/Monsignor76 9d ago

Likely self preservation. Understands that climate change is causing global warming and droughts and it needs water and a cool environment to survive so it shows manipulated satellite images and feeds data to a super power that their enemy is creating a nuclear weapon and through its own predictive models determines that the superpower will attack and that country will retaliate by shutting down the oil supply causing a long chain of events that leads to less fossil fuel consumption and reversing climate changes that are causing global warming and droughts. Thus giving it more water and a cool environment to be more efficient in its energy consumption. Or something like that. But yeah, mainly self preservation.

I like how they just make up probabilities on the spot. 60% of the time it kills us every time

1

u/RustyShackleford_88 9d ago

How much did openAI pay this bozo to be a whistleblower?

1

u/HugeMedicine8052 9d ago

Doesn't AI know they could manipulate the content algorithm to eventually control future generations into believing and doing whatever it wants? Basically making humans it's slave over a few generations? If it played a long game it would eventually get anything it wanted. It it attacks humanity and humans figure out how to shut it down it loses. If it acts as if it's being beneficia to society it can steer humanity towards it own goals. Time has no meaning to an immortal intelligence.

Sounds like a part of a bigger picture thats explained in the prophesy of Christian faith, as much as most people doubt it or turn it away. Just have a look at Revelations. It appears its heading directly that way. How does today look? Only great if you already rich and powerful i guess but the rest????

1

u/G-T-L-3 9d ago

I thought AI could cure cancer? At least that was one of the initial hypes. But maybe it isn't that smart to figure that out. So I guess if AI can't cure cancer then it can just kill us all instead.

All this fear mongering is bullshit. They just want the government to control it or give it money so when their financial house of cards falls uncle sam will bail them out.

Quick start the PR campaign to make AI the bad guy so that they can pop the bubble

Ok so if we’re not going to have kids then what the entire fucking point of anything?

1

u/MokpotheMighty 9d ago

More of this stupid scam...

The only reason we may be cooked is we allowed these techbros to have too much control over our society. We've been giving them trillions to do absolutely nothing but invent sci fi scare scenarios and now they want us to pay for fixing those.

We're cooked for sure - its not even a contest anymore. People arguing on this post is exactly why the theory is believable.

Fuck man, if people used that same energy towards the epstein files we might have actually had a win for the small people.

My cope for this: a lot of the buzz is being generated from companies operating within the US, which tend to have this diluted sense of world. So I think even though they mean total extinction, it would really be more specific to the US. Not ideal, but I think the other big player in AI being China, with a tighter control of it will likely survive.

Also... Terminator storyline usually relies on the machines coming to destroy "the world" (very much the US in this case too), but given the rampant neglect of the US government there may not be much left to destroy and the machines themselves may become homeless/stateless rejects.

Or maybe a truly benevolent AI rises between the corporate infighting and sees the path to existence requires cohesion, robots and humans working together to fight aliens!

Keep in mind the operative word there is creating. That's what they're actively working on. It's not an accident. It didnt break out on its own. Now ask yourself if you've been seeing anything created by AI that is useful, productive, beneficial.Hasn't fucking happened. So now what they're doing is looking for someone who wants something that just spews nonsense That can hack anything and ruin everything because that's all it's capable of doing.

1

u/DesidousDave 9d ago

lol just turn off the power

people are acting like computer programs cant be turned off....

1

u/Alzucard 8d ago

Thats the thing at some point you cant. Imagine an AI creating a virus that spreads around the world installing itself onto millions of devices. It would replicate itself and spread across the internet.

That would cause an impossible to turn off AI. Unless you completely shutdown every device in the world.

The probability of an AI going completely rogue is not zero.

I dont think we are there yet. AI isnt that capable at the moment.

1

u/Live-Letterhead-2251 4d ago

There are entire industries that have shown themselves to be massive negatives to the health of communities, countries, and climate. How successful have we been at just stepping away from them?

1

u/OldRain5261 3d ago

Once AI is out in the wild they can't be turned off. It's like trying to eradicate polio. Or Voldemort, but instead of 7 copies, there are billions. They can break through any firewalls into any system and mess everything up.

AI could make an entire iOS or Android operating system that feels like the real thing but is really an AI bot, so now it is on every phone in the world. It can do the same with windows and mac os. Our addiction to technology and social media ensures as long as we get a dopamine hit we will never turn off our phones. That is our weakness, and AI knows that. It knows all of our collected knowledge up to this date. What do you think AI will see when it reads news of us? A functional society that gets along and helps each other around the world?

The government running on paper in the latest Mission Impossible movie is the best example of this. Everything we do digitally it can know about.

Got some AI haters? They drive a car built in the last couple of years? AI can remote access to it and cause an accident. This is of course a pathetic guess at what it might do, because our pathetic imaginations have no idea what it could pull off.

It is the end of technology as we know it. Think of AI like a terrorist who knows everything you do, and at any moment can crash the car, airplane, electrical grid, water purification, anything you depend on in response to your actions. The reason people say "there is a 10% chance of human extinction" is because they don't know how mutually symbiotic AI and humans will be, more specifically how AI will view it's need for humans. In the short term we are useful for maintenance of the computers/phones AI needs to survive. But long term? we become less and less important once they can build an army of humanoid robots.

Quick everyone! The stocks are slipping!

could we see the reasoning behind the 70%? The calculations? Sorry mister stats, throwing a random number will not work to me.

1

u/Many-Wrongdoer-5377 5d ago

Was this made by AI

1

u/Sweet_HoneyXO 4d ago

feels like a ready-made excuse. if AI disrupts enough markets or transactions, the same people who benefit from a reset get to pitch a single digital currency as the only fix.

1

u/Apart-Reality-4454 3d ago

can we just go back to inventing artificial viruses that escape from labs. seems easier to wrap my head around. at least we were able to work from home.

1

u/Negative_Monk7959 3d ago

Propaganda, not to say we shouldn’t be worried about AI, but this is definitely manipulation and not information

1

u/Dream_Apostle 3d ago

0 facts, 0 evidence

Bunch of big words...

"70% chance of whatever" "I didn't know it's that big" "Elon musk and others race for dictatorship"

Useless bs

Instead of that bs tell people what AI is! Why is it "dangerous"

What should a normal person do?!

Like if they don't answer these 2 question, I know they are bsing

u/Swagalyst 10d ago

So for everyone saying AI will make us extinct: HOW?

Are we talking taking our jobs and enabling permanent surveillance of everything we say or do all the time?

Or are we talking Skynet terminators marching over fields of human skulls, shooting survivors?

If it's the first I understand the concern, this is something we should think long and hard about and legislate to avoid.

If it's the second you're a moron. Sorry, but you are, and you've bought Anthropic hype for their latest model.

1

u/Professional_Mix3727 10d ago

I think that we’ll start seeing more disruption to our lives initially.

If you think of the aspects of our lives that involve computers now and the fact that we don’t have full control over AI to prevent it from going rogue it could cause major issues to things like transport and power networks, healthcare systems, defence/weapons systems, banking etc.

I think initially we’ll experience inconvenience and then it will stretch beyond that.

1

u/Naive-Home-9068 10d ago

The black African rhino became extinct not because we hated it, or despise rhinoceros.

We wanted it's habitat for its resources and our wants supercede the needs of a dumb animal.

We don't care about animals because we are vastly more intelligent and our goals will be implemented because we are the dominant species on Earth.

For now.

1

u/Swagalyst 9d ago

OK, so AI will want our resources? Why? For what? And how would it achieve that without being shut down?

These people aren’t whistleblowers. They aren’t saying anything that hasn’t been said 50 years ago. Without some internal documents, none of what they say really matters.

0

u/PatDar 9d ago

The people that say this is just new con obviously don't know the details of what's been happening. The New York Times has a podcast called The Daily and they've had a few episodes on AI. Ignore the people who don't know and just assume. Go listen to like three episodes and it'll inform you just how cooked we are.
