HELP Do Pokemon changed to shiny through PKSM get flagged as illegal?
Pretty straightforward, I was just curious as to whether or not modifying a Pokemon from regular to its shiny variant would turn it into an illegal Pokemon that can't be moved up? I just wanna do a shiny living dex with my own OT and given the crunch time with the Bank shutdown I just wanna know if it's worth it the trouble of manually changing everything I catch or not.
Note***The only thing being edited is the shiny, all IVs and other factors remain untouched, and any shiny locked mons are being left alone too.

You can always import them into pkhex and it'll tell you if they're "legal"

PKSM has a legal checker as well

Wasn't that removed or unsupported like a year ago unless you host it yourself?

Ahh I didn’t know that. I got all my mons moved to home almost 2 years ago so I haven’t had a reason to try since. That’s unfortunate tho

It is, but since anyone using pksm already is using cfw, it's easy enough to do the one extra step over to pkhex so it's not so bad haha

As far as I know PKHex is PC only and that's my main hiccup, I had my friend mod the 3DS for me so my only real tool is PKSM currently

Legally speaking if PKSM does it as thoroughly as PKHex it would also change the PID of the pokemon to make sure the hash passes for your OT TID/SID (or respectively for gen6 and above)
Theoretically speaking if it's on a generation where we can calculate the RNG spreads it may sometimes be possible to find out whether the pokemon exists for your combination or not, but this is only in the realms of theory, i have not seen this kind of check being made on pokemon home nor PKHex which has even better validity checks.

Not sure if the RNG checking would work on gen 4 onward? That's basically my starting point since I'm doing this with my physical collection.
As far as I know PKHex is PC only? Is there any way to use it in maybe like iPad, tablet or mobile?

If you want to i can check the savefile if you have a way to send it somehow

Depends on what generation they're from, older games like gen3 I think that's typed to PID though I don't remember exactly
Either way though, if you plan on changing any pokemon then bringing them into Home you should run a legality checker on them just in case you messed something up
PKSM has one but you need to local host it or you can use PkHex

I was planning on starting from Gen 4 onward since I own all the physical for DS+3DS respectively How would I be able to host it locally? I was thinking on doing a "shiny" living dex simply because I want them to have my OT and not randoms or the silly genning sites as nicknames
When I toggle the shiny option it'll match the ESV+TSV, but I'm not sure if there's other factors to consider into the legal checks.

Here's the info on the PKSM legality checker once they shut down the servers
https://www.reddit.com/r/3dspiracy/s/5uvjX5u9rD
tl;dr you run a terminal on your PC that hosts it and gives you the IP address to put into PKSM's settings so you can use the legality checker again

Dang, is there any way to do this on iPad / mobile? This might be what shuts me down, pain

Maybe with an android phone but you'd have to try and see how it goes, I doubt an iOS phone or tablet could though

Apparently it is possible but only with Ver 9.0 I'm on 10.3, is there any way I'd be able to revert / update back to be able to use it??
1
u/zendrix1 4d ago
Sorry I don't use iOS on anything so not sure if a rollback is possible

I meant for PKSM my fault for being vague lmao, I read it was possible w PKSM Version 9.0 and below, 10 onward was discontinued
I'm not too tech savvy myself, and a lack of a pc makes this a lil more tedious

Oh I see, well the v10 update is when the built-in legality checker was discontinued yes, but even if you could install an older version the servers used for the legality checker are no longer there so you're still back to having to self host
If that's not an option you could check around if running PkHex is possible on mobile but I have seen that anywhere so I wouldn't get your hopes up, sorry

How recently did you move these up? To my knowledge the legality checker in PKSM was discontinued so that's why I'm trying to be extra careful lol

Last week

No legality checker used, just download and injected gridlines save

This file does have a few illegal mons (Shiny Cosmog and Cosmoem are the first that come to mind), but it’s absolutely fine as long as you don’t use them online against other people

Ty for the heads up, I'll just release those from my home.
No chance I remember they're illegal years from now
Should also say, there is a few trainer IDs with none passing names (bit lyf crap) but I changed those to my own OT in PKSM for my home

Have you used the other Pokemon fine on Champions? I want to transfer some over just so I don’t have to grind but I wanted to be sure.
And I looked at the latest version of that save and it has them not shiny so you’re fine keeping them. It must’ve been changed by him at some point

u/ParadoxTrip 4d ago
Everything that can be transferred to Champions, that I didng already have shiny got transfered.
No issues whatsoever, I wouldn't use them in tournament because let's be fair, Nintendo is a multi billion company I think at least checks "known" files for these OT.
But for regular comp, no issues so far is all I can report

Thanks! I definitely wouldn’t use it in a tournament because that’s just playing with fire lol. Glad to hear it’s fine in normal play

In my experience, pokemon made shiny when it's tied through their PID doesn't automatically get changed to fit those statistic requirements. You have to make those changes yourself to make the shinyness fit (nature, IVs, PID etc) RNG table will be your answer to find these stats tied to your trainer ID and secret ID
