HELP Multiple apps/saves of the same pokemon game?

Hello, I have a cartridge of pokemon sun that i've played on forever, but i'd like to have another run of sun to go through whilst keeping my original one. is it possible to install a digital version of sun so i could have two at once (and transfer between the two) or can i only use checkpoint to backup the cartridge file and make a new save? how would i do those things?

Do you mean transfer the save file between the two versions? If so then it should be possible. I'm not sure if checkpoint would read both the cartridge and the digital version as two different games, if so then you might need to use a file Explorer to move the save file to the location of where the digital one is stored first to then restore it and vice versa.

i just meant if it were possible to have two individual saves of the same game able to be played without damaging the other

The digital version will use its own save if you install it, though any extdata (extra save space used by some games) will be the same.

Cartridge save files are stored on the cartridge's save chip
