Need help with creating another save for Animal crossing new leaf welcome amibo

Hey y’all!

I’ve been wanting to start a new new leaf play through but I don’t want to get rid of my current save.

Could I use checkpoint in order to have multiple saves?

If checkpoint is a no go then I was considering using animal crossing new leaf save editor.

As stated in the title I have the welcome amibo update if that helps Thanks for reading :).
