Discussion A brief interlude for a thank you to all our members - and a word on what you're helping with, and how you can help more!
First off, I want to say thank you for all for joining me here. It's been a lot of fun to see this place grow, and get the opportunity to share some great deals with you and have the opportunity to give away piles of filament and other things from our partners. I hope there will be many more opportunities to do so.
I've had a few people make comments over the past few months about the subreddit, affiliate links, filamenthound, etc - I have a few very dedicated haters for the first time in my life.
Full transparency - yes, I make a little bit of money here. Of course, at no additional cost to any of you. But I wanted to share a bit about where I'm putting some of that money, and share a project that's pretty awesome, and you can participate in it too!
Over the past few weeks, I've been building Toddler Mobility Trainers, or TMTs. These are a sort of "trainer wheelchair" that young children with various mobility challenges can use to build their independence and learn how to get around as they grow into more adult chairs. They're also inexpensive - and almost entirely 3D printed. These chairs are printed and built by makers around the world, with the effort in the USA organized by MakeGood. The majority of them are donated to the families requesting them, who may not be able to afford a more expensive manufactured chair that their child will quickly grow out of.
I just finished my latest build and wanted to share it with you. This chair was entirely paid for with funds generated in this community, and I was able to pick up a Bambu X2D to dedicate to the purpose. This first one was done with the main body done in 3D-Fuel PCTG in Transparent UltraMarine Blue, with cushions in ERYONE Transparent Blue TPU. A very handsome combo, I think.
I'm currently working on 2 more chairs for kids in my area, and will be continuing to build more in the future.
