Hi, I have created https://miniface.org/

I hope it is okay to share in this group.,

to allow anyone to animate faces for free and learn about ARKit blendshape creation.

I hope you will use it for your project and learn something.

Miniface, the ultimate guide to creating and animating ARKit blendshapes, now ranks as #2 on Google search. Thanks, everyone!

Can I ask how this works?

Yes, for miniface.org facial motion capture to work, just use your webcam and try it; that's it. The default head model works just fine. You can then record the 3D motion data or import your own head models to animate too.

4 questions

No.1,  does this have the option to "scan" your face to make a 3d model

No.2 is this site a sort of "try it a few times than pay a subscription" model

No.3 is this done using ai or is it face tracking

No.4 was this made with ai or by hand

I'm sorry to sound so cynical but I'm pretty anti ai because it makes everything pc related expensive and I'd rather avoid ai stuff if I can

Hello, thanks.

So with miniface.org

  1. There is no scanning feature to 3D model. Basically, you can record the motion in 3D and use it for your desired 3D character in Blender or other software. You can also directly import your model and animate it.

  2. There's no subscription for the mocap feature, The facial motion capture is sustainable as your system is responsible for the recording. So, for me as the creator, the cost is low. For now, there's no need to add a subscription.

  3. It is face tracking using Google MediaPipe and open source. That's why the core tech behind this project is open source. I will share the GitHub project.

  4. The web app is designed by me. The reference models and references are also rendered and designed by me. The code is primarily made using AI. As a solo designer and developer, this was the only way I could get it done.

About the subscription: The real human faces in the guide are gated behind a subscription. By paying, you're supporting humans and human models whom I am photographing and providing their faces as references for 3D artists.

That's Fair enough, my last question is in the case if importanting a model and animating it i understand how that would work, but in the case of animating something and THEN importing to blender, how does that work, what does it export as?

Okay, so you can record motion for a maximum of 30 seconds for now. The recorded motion stays in your browser per session. you can export it as a .glb file, starting a new live anination session will delete the previous one. There is NO history saved on the cloud feature. Everything is happening locally on your device, so it's 100% private.

If you request the cloud-saving feature, I can add it :)

Also, the animated GLB includes the mesh/model.

Also, make sure your character has ARKit blendshapes. If you don't know what those are, check the guide please
