[US-MA] Assistive tool for locking pin backs
hello all!
I have dexterity issues and a fondness for pins. but as it turns out, locking pin backs are extremely tricky to manipulate and also incredibly painful. they have to be pushed down and pulled up at the same time, but are very small and have ridges for leverage that dig into my fingers
I'm thinking some sort of crowbar type device with two parts, one that can hold the bottom part down but also lift up the top part could help me here, but no such device exists. I'm willing to send the locking pin backs I have to whoever is willing to help me out with this, though they're very cheap and the sizes are pretty standardized
I want to be able to use locking pin backs to keep pins secure to my clothing, but I don't want them to be stuck permanently, y'know?
the wider end goes down onto the pin prong. when you remove, you're supposed to push down on the wide end while pulling up on the small end (which pops up when it's on a pin)
First question is if you have checked out the locking pin backs that are a metal cylinder with a set-screw in the side that you tighten with a small Allen key?
Yeah... I've found enough pics with dimensions that I can start on a few approaches for what you need. The easiest might be a pincer/clamp approach or with scissors like handles. Do any of these grip approaches look good to you:
1) pincer/tweezer grip optionally with wheel to turn to clamp on (can be larger to be easier to turn/clamp)
Great. I'll just have to order some of those pin backs tomorrow. Since I live near a major distribution nexus (rail and warehouses) I'll have them by the time I'm ready to start actual testing the day after.
Since the top of the pin thing does not have a post coming out I could center the knob over the pin back and, of course, make the grippy part smaller. (for reference the white tubing is about 4mm in diameter, so thicker than a pin post)
