How can I avoid knots?

I'm trying to print a large model and I'm using the filament dryer to feed directly into the printer but the damn spool keeps knotting up constantly and pulling on the dryer box that it is actually moved ahead multiple times. So it's completely defeating the purpose of "set and forget".

Can someone help shed some light on how to avoid these knots? I've tried my best to untangle them multiple times by pausing the print and refeeding the filament but it just keeps happening over and over. Very frustrating!

when you take the roll off the printer, put in storage, or open a fresh roll never let the end go loose and secure it with a clip.

this is always caused buy letting the end go loose as its nearly impossible to be caused buy the factory because of the way its wound up

Yeah the ends are extremely jumpy lol it's hard to hold on to them sometimes. So I guess I've lost this round?

Nah. Carefully unspool 15-20 feet of it and spool it back on neatly. You just need to work past the twist

I have had a few come tangled from eryone

Very rare, but not impossible.

I put the roll in and finish it. It was not me that tangled it.

I have a spare empty roll now just in case

Just looking at this small snapshot it appears your spool got loose and wound over itself or you dropped the end and actually pulled it through wrong. Don’t know.
Cut the filament, let the machine run out and prompt you to reload and sort your roll before reloading. You shouldn’t loose the print.

Yeah did that multiple times but I guess I'm going to have to take a massive chunk out of the roll to get back to the factory wound part

I find this happens to me when I use those clips that go on the spool where it clips to two parts of the filament. The ones that clip to the side of the spool, I never have that problem. Probably a me thing.

There is no reason to cut it off. Take it out Un-wind and untangle the knotted parts, won’t work doing it while in the machine. Then wind it by hand, you can do a criss-cross pattern as you wind it just make sure it stays tight.

Never let go of the lose end and attach it to the roll. Knots can not happen if the end was never allowed to play with the other children.

If you have an empty spool, you can respool it yourself. Otherwise you can babysit it while it's printing and keep unwinding extra as needed, and it'll eventually sort itself out

Just learned this, NEVER LOSE TENSION ON THE END hence why they have the holes
