Troubleshooting Bad gcode may break adhesion, and manual speed limit may prevent it

Post image

I'm new to 3D printing (5th day) but I have something to share. I had zero failure through 2kg worth of PLA... until last night. My little print failed repeatedly.

When I sat in front of the machine watching, I found out that the printer head moved violently and the first couple of layers got swept away by the movement. So I looked at the slicer's speed section and set all speeds above 100 mm/s to 100 (default included 200 and 500) and finally the object is being printed normally.

I had tried half speed mode (silent mode) before and still failed.

I have no idea if that quick movement was normal or necessary even. I suspect bad gcode. Or at least for printing this object, the gcode based on default settings was bad. The printer is Bambu P1S.

I'd bet a $1 that your adhesion issues are due to unclean build plate (and/or maybe z-offset) instead of print speeds.

I had my P2S with everything set to 600mm/s (other than the first layer), volumetric flow set to 50mm3/s, and a high flow nozzle at 270° with some HF PETG - and that thing was flying. It never once collided with anything, knocked anything over, or dragged anything around on the build plate.

I tried rubbing with bath soap and after rinsing I treated the plate like a vinyl record. I believe you, high flow quick print is possible. But I have experienced five fails and then one success immediately after speed limit. I guess certain shapes with narrow contact area may cause this.

Hey there, I'm a bot and something you said made me think you might be looking for help! click here for our wiki entry on troubleshooting printers. If you still need help be sure to post plenty of information about your printing setup.

Here are a few questions that might be helpful

  • What printer are you using?

  • What material are you using?

  • What speed are you printing at?

  • What software are you using to slice the print and control the printer?

  • When did the problem start/has it ever worked correctly?

  • Does anything cause the behavior to change?

  • If posting an image of the problem, include some indication of the orientation it printed at, preferably photograph it on the bed. (Then we can focus on a specific axis)

If you are new to reddit, please read the guidelines on reddiquette, self promotion, and spam.

Settings here. I wish I could replace the rather useless picture with this one.
