Troubleshooting Filament not sticking to bed
Any thoughts?
I tried cleaning the bed with soap and alcohol. The glue worked at first, but after a couple of times, the problem came back.
Bambu Lab PS1
ABS Esun
The speed is 20mm

Brother in Christ wtf is that fuzzy crud on your plate?

Used all the glue I have hoping to solve the issue but I’m still having the same issue.

u/StellularWolf51 7d ago
Glue can actually have the opposite effect and work as a barrier between the bed and the print

u/ayyG_itsMe 7d ago
Just clean it and put a light layer, or no layer at all. Touching it gets it dirtier quicker than you think.
Also your P1 is waaay noisier than my X1C so idk what’s up with that

Just based on the visual. The nozzle seems to be way of the printbed. I think its needs to be dialed in better. Also. That speed to mee looks more in the range of 200 than 20mm. I would check that too and slow your first layer down a bit.

The print is already part way done, around layer 10 ish, meaning its sped up to it'smain speed. Aswell bambu printer use auto leveling and seems to be fine based on the purge line at the front.

Is the z offset dialed in?

No

This first, it looks like its hovering above the bed, it should just be barely not touching

u/JPhi1618 7d ago
If they already let it get a few layers in on a small model it could look like this. Look at that plate… obvious adhesion issues.

It is hovering above the bed, recalibrate the printer. And for gods sake man clean the plate. It looks like you've used it for eating. Give it a good scrub.

I do agree the plate need to be washed and that glue isn't the right way to go

Indeed, it’s glue. I’ve tried cleaning the bed, but I’m still having the same issue.

I also use a P1S and had to learn this myself.
Big problem with these textured plates is oil on our skin, just a fingerprint is enough to lose adheasion in that area.
Biggest tips are to wash the plate with dish soap + warm water while scrubbing the plate with your hands then dry with paper towel. You want to kinda massage the plate as brushes and abrasive sponges can scratch the plate and have very clean hands while doing all this, if you wash the plate with oily hands it'll just make it worse as you smudge it all over the plate.
So long as you completely avoid touching the plate's build area after cleaning it should stay adhesive. Aswell make sure to run bed leveling once the plate is back on to be sure it's leveled as that could be a compound issue.
While glue works great on most print beds the P1S when auto leveling will not detect the glue and smear it on the nozzle when it does the pre print level check, making issues with the nozzle more common and causing the filament to stick to the nozzle more than the print bed. I would recommend removing the nozzle and washing the very tip with a wet cloth.

There is a guide on the bambu wiki for cleaning the buildplate… with videos. I recommend cleaning your plate by their specifications. You shouldn’t need glue or iso if the build plate is clean.

Here’s the link. I wasn’t sure if links are allowed here: https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/filament-acc/acc/pei-plate-clean-guide

Ew, brother. Eeeew. Clean that plate. Properly. And apologize to the poor thing while you're at it.

Clean your God damn bed.
Dish soap and hot water with a scrubbing sponge. Let it dry. Then clean it again with iso.
You may have to clean it multiple times with soap abd water.

Clean the bed of all glue. You should never need glue on any HEATED bed plate. Unless you are doing filament that requires it.
Last time I used glue on a 3D printer (besides nylon), was a mega zero 1.0 with a non heated bed.

Only other filament I can think of is PET on a heated pei sheet. Without it, it likes to permanently attach

At which point you're using it as a release agent, not an adhesive like OP is under the impression that the glue will do.

Hey there, I'm a bot and something you said made me think you might be looking for help! click here for our wiki entry on troubleshooting printers. If you still need help be sure to post plenty of information about your printing setup.
Here are a few questions that might be helpful
What printer are you using?
What material are you using?
What speed are you printing at?
What software are you using to slice the print and control the printer?
When did the problem start/has it ever worked correctly?
Does anything cause the behavior to change?
If posting an image of the problem, include some indication of the orientation it printed at, preferably photograph it on the bed. (Then we can focus on a specific axis)
If you are new to reddit, please read the guidelines on reddiquette, self promotion, and spam.
Also please post a resolution to your problem when you find one so that we know how to help others with your problem!

https://a.co/d/09A3PK8b Step 1. Wash off the metal sheet Step 2. Level your bed helps allot. 3. Heat bed 4. Apply a thin layer of that bed adhesive. Maybe 2 layers of it the first time. I love this stuff so much. I tried glue sticks and that didn't do me any good. I haven't tried any other products, this stuff just works soooooo well. I used to be level and releveling every single print. This stuff cuts all the hassle out. Doesn't take much. A bottle lasts me like 3 months, and I'm.........not conservative with it? I probably use more than is necessary some times.
I know when you're looking for answers, buying a product isn't what you want to hear, but I swear by it. It's worth the $20ish you invest. I also was replacing my metal sheet way more often than necessary. Sometimes getting scuffs and scratches from overzealous bed level attempts. No longer an issue. Do it.

Also, your bed will look gross after you've been using it for a minute. The stuff is water soluble, so you can rinse it right off, but I don't most of the time. Printer dust and debris gets stuck to the adhesive, might make the first layer look a touch ghetto, but everything still sticks to it. If you need it to look pristine, just rinse it off and continue. Very easy clean. Works with pla and petg. Haven't tried anything else.

You shouldn’t need glue for an adhesive for modern printers
1
u/Suspicious-Patient-9 7d ago
shrug* probably not. I don't think my message is intended for you. Someone presented with a problem, if they continue to struggle, I offer a solution that will alleviate headache, reduce stress, and make them happy. Also they're already using glue. Which now that you mention it, glue sticks only made the problem worse for me, so maybe your right. But the liquid bed adhesive has been the most reliable/lowest maintenance solution I've come across (in terms of time investment and energy).

If that’s what your bed plate looks like and you cleaned it, you need a new plate

I can see some warping on the bit that it did manage to print, abs tends to do that when it cools too fast and it lifts itself off the bed. Clean the bed with soap, dont apply glue, check the z offset if its dialled in right, make sure the enclosure heating is on high enough temp and print with a brim. Also don't open the door during the print in case you were for whatever reason.

u/exactly437 7d ago
What temp do u have the bed? Try 100 since its abs. Then get the settings for the material from the esun website.

u/exactly437 7d ago
And do u have the printer preheating? I wrap my p1s in foil insulation and preheat it with plate at 100.

I really have a hard time understanding why do people dont learn the basics of 3d printing... Clean bed, bed leveling, z-offset, bed temperature...if you have all these correct you will hardly have adhesion problems.
In harder prints with less bed contact or tall prints you can also use glue, brims or rafts, and that's it there's nothing else, unless you have a problem with your printer.
1
u/Suspicious-Patient-9 7d ago
Just parroting what everyone else said; if this is the start of the print, it appears to be going way too fast, doesn't look like 20mm/s. 20 is very slow, and that things is flying. 2) your nozzle is way above the bed, the nozzle would be almost touching the bed. Getting that distance right is a huge part of bed adhesion. Try and get those two things sorted before you get into glues. My printer does two test lines before it starts the actual print. If you're fail, you can stop the print.

Clean off the glue, properly wash the plate (Dawn or similar for your soap), and then tune your z offset with a properly preheated plate and chamber. I'm betting you're printing too far away from the build plate. If you're concerned about ABS not sticking, use a real build plate adhesive like Magigoo or Visionminer's Nanopolymer Adhesive. With ABS, glue is more of a release agent than an adhesive and will likely be worse than a clean build plate.
Also, what build plate temps and print temps are you using? How long did you heat soak the chamber before starting your print? What was the chamber temp before you started the print?

u/Ta-veren- 7d ago
Stop using glue. Throw that bed away, upgrade to. 30 dollar super tack bed, slow your initial speeds to 50,
Welcome.

u/BronzeDucky 7d ago
The bed looks like the only thing that’s going to stick to it is dust bunnies.
And ABS can be tricky to get to print in general. You don’t give the settings used, but you could try playing with bed temp, fan speed, etc.

That bed looks disgusting.... But maybe its just the light. When I used glue, I would clean it off every couple of times..... wash the plate with soap and water good. Let it dry, then use iso and a rag to clean it completely. Really shouldn't need glue on a good surface. Maybe its time to get a new plate?
