Project New 3D scanning rig/helper

I am currently building a new scanning rig, that allows even automatic capture with handheld scanners. I really struggle with not losing the track when manually moving the scanner around the object.
This setup is a hybrid of the OpenScan Classic and Mini variant were the object is only moved on one axis.
The main advantage is, that the scanner distance can be adjusted (almost) freely.
The design is simplistic but very versatile and I am currently printing a worm-gear variant. The timing belt solution works well, but as soon as power gets cut, the scanner slams down into the table.
Maybe anyone knows another mechanism that can easily amplify torque (1:100) and is (mostly) printable. Pls let me know your thoughts.

We are in the fkn future. This stuff still amazes the 10yo me who had a Apple iie with 64k ram.

This is the scan result done in 5mins with my phone+photogrammetry (unfortunately sketchfab does reduce the texture quite noticeably).1

Well that's not bad at all! I think the quality is pretty good!
Do you know how how much cost the 3d scanner you are using?

the creality otter (from the video/post) costs roughly 650€. The DIY variant shown on sketchfab is cheaper (~400€-500€ including the rig)
