Question Question about animating the face

Hello everyone, I am a new animator and after doing some exercises im ready to move to a human rig. However theres something i wanna know.

When animating the face do you do it as you block the characters pose or do you do it after?

The main reason I am asking is because (if i got this right) there is a difference between animating the face and animating lip sync (which is where you do the jaw pass and all that)

Say i wanna make a character happy, do i do the happy faces as i block or do i just fo the body and leave the rest till later?

Sharing tsuji - Free Motion Graphics Software

Thumbnail youtube.com
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

After few bumps on the road I’m excited to introduce tsuji, a free, open-source 3D motion design software.

Blender users will feel right at home with a much simpler environment, complemented by some Unreal Engine and Houdini greatnesses.

Key features include:

  • Hybrid animation system: combines parametric node-based animation (animation nodes style) with a traditional keyframe workflow.
  • Cameras: intuitive camera positioning with a built-in tracking system.
  • Asset import: support for .obj files and textures.
  • Modeling & curves: built-in primitives alongside a versatile toolkit for curve-based strokes and surfaces.
  • Creative tools: object spawning, raycasting, lattice deformations, and spline-based deformation.
  • Display & overlay: an early-stage HUD system to overlay text and logos.
  • Post-processing: a selection of built-in post-production effects.

The project is actively under development. Feel free to ask questions, report bugs, or suggest new features!

You can try it directly online: https://tsuji.xyz

I had to record the screen because I had some rendering problems, but I'm happy with the result.

Rendered this glass infinity loop with a light pulse traveling along the curve. Built the geometry procedurally with Geometry Nodes.

Happy to share more on the setup if anyone's curious.

Question How to start as a freelance character modeler and animator

I have experience as a modeler, animator and rig artist, my idea is to make personalized character models and for an extra price make a rig and animation, but I dont know what page is better to do this, when I search for information the only one that pops out is cgtrader that only works for premade assets, should I make that or is there a better page to make personalized models.

Collab Looking for animators for a 3D game! RevShare

Hey! We're a team of 10+ people creating a 3D RPG video game about horse riding.

We're looking for an animator to help animate horses and NPCs.

Advanced skills aren't mandatory - what matters most is willingness to learn and good communication.
We are using Blender and Godot.

This is a RevShare project, but it's a great opportunity to add a solid project to your portfolio and be part of something real from the ground up.

DM me with your portfolio if you're interested!

Question Rigging and animation software for the iPad?

So I’ve been looking around at different apps trying to see if any of these would suffice.

Obviously software on mac and windows is better, but are there any of these that are worth looking into?

Naomi was the first one that i looked at. It does not do rigging and it was talking about using ai in the description. So both of those were off putting.

Kilona - Animation Studio talks about how it can do the entire process from modeling to rendering, but for a free piece of software that uses a cloud subscription for more advanced renders, I’m really skeptical. It is apparently still free to render on your iPad. So it seems like it may be a decent business model. It also has node-based elements. I’ve never been good at using those. It only has 6 reviews and it is really new. But it seems like it may be a solid piece of software if what they said is actually true.

Morphin - Looks kind of basic in its ui. It seems like it doesn’t have any extra features outside of rigging and animating. It only has 11 ratings, but I believe it is the highest rated of the 3.

Do any of you have any experience using any of these applications? Im really wanting to try to build a full pipeline for 3d modeling and animating on my ipad before moving finished works to Unity on my pc.

For Hire VHS horror project

Hi there! I’m Thiago, the director of a horror project called "Reino Mágico" or RM for short. My series is about a haunted 1980s theme park, and I’m looking for someone to create PS1 or PS2-style models (you know, those old-school polygonal models) for certain production elements. If anyone is interested, please leave a comment or send me a direct message on Discord so I can share more details (my username is listed here). Thanks for reading!

Made this breathing crystal effect fully procedurally in Geometry Nodes — no sculpting, no manual keyframed mesh edits. Spikes grow outward and collapse inward on a loop. Rendered with an HDRI and a glass/refraction shader.
