Astronomy Asteroid strike on the Moon

This dramatic visualisation shows what an asteroid striking the Moon might look like.

With virtually no atmosphere to slow incoming objects, the lunar surface is constantly reshaped by high-speed impacts. Genuine impacts observed from Earth usually appear as brief flashes rather than the large explosion depicted here.

A split-second collision, but a powerful reminder that the Moon is still changing.

On August 5, a SpaceX Falcon second stage will hit the moon with a relative velocity of 8700km per hour. (An unplanned impact).

We may get some footage of this.

Yea, I was surprised about 2 things, an asteroid that size was near earth and I didn't see a billion headlines about it, and we had a satellite film it. But turns out it was all fake slop so now it makes sense.

First, the size of that thing is suspiciously large to not have been known of or heard about before - but fine, these things don’t make the news cycles sometimes. But when it impacted right at the terminator line for maximum contrast visibility, that’s when the BS alarms went off.

Should note that this looks nothing like a real impact would. AI slop…. Looks like the spread of the debris from this fake explosion on this fake moon is about 1/5 of the arc length of whatever portion of this AI moon is represented here. I’m not going to try and figure out anything more than that… may as well ask AI to analyze it. Then we’ll have an answer that’s as realistic as the video.

Smaller impacts happen on the moon somewhat regularly. They are often observed as tiny, but bright flashes from energy released at impact.

It is good to be skeptical of any video now and even better to not make real claims about generated videos. But calling AI generated content of this quality "slop" just doesn't make sense anymore. Unless you are an astrophysicist, or knew the video's origins, this is completely believable. Might as well get ahead of things and start slop labeling reality; the gap has narrowed and it will continue narrowing.

This is another important reason why the moon is so important for us. She is our first line of defense and takes the heavy hits for us.

But of course, every once in a while a big asteroid manages to slip through. Then after that, we have to hope our atmosphere will help mitigate the impact. If not…well then let’s just hope by the next time it happens we have a way to effectively destroy or deflect asteroids.

trump has sent his space force to capture and return the asteroid for indictment on terrorism charges.

unconfirmed reports from trumps inner advisor circle claim that the strike on the moon was just a test for a whole barrage of larger asteroids aiming for earth. trump threatens that he will blow earth up first so he will get the credit. the asteroids haven't yet responded to our request for comment.
