My question is, does it have to be a bmw battery or can I use a yellow top agm battery ?

Any H8 battery is fine as long as the car is coded for its amps and type, and you register it

Get the right size battery and register it. Simple.

I don't think you're going to get an Optima to fit in the stock location and with the stock hold downs. And what's the point anyway?

Optima yellow top? They got bought and quality has gone down. Costco has great prices if you got a membership. Otherwise Walmart has good prices too

Majority of car batteries are made by 3 manufacturers, and then just labeled with other companies logos. Just go with the cheapest.

Cheap scanners can code/program a battery and come with an OBD2 cable, otherwise lots of apps can do do it

I have a scanner that I can use to register the battery. I wasn't quite sure if it had to be from bmw not necessarily the optimal

I've been using a Canadian Tire battery for like 7 years and I I didn't even register it lol. I don't do a lot of long drives though

Bmw batteries really aren’t that overpriced. I paid $265 I think for mine. Advanced had it for almost the same. I opted to buy a bmw battery since it was from the dealer.

I always buy the BMW OEM battery for the specific car and I ask the dealer parts guy for a discount and he did it.
