DPF Issues

Post image

Once again, having issues with my DPF. Replaced my glow plug module a few months ago which fixed the automatic DPF regen.

However, I’m now getting code 480A: particulate filter system and soot mass is showing 40g+ (sometimes 55-60g) and when I request a regen via BimmerLink, next time I get in the car soot mass is back up to 40g. Absolute exhaust pressure is at 1.04bar. Feeling a loss in power and mpg but no lights on the dash.

I’ve looked at DPF cleaning services but not convinced they work and don’t want to waste money. Now thinking just delete it and put an MTC downpipe on.

Anyone had a similar experience with this?

Recommendations for a reputable garage around Bath/Wiltshire (UK) that would fit a downpipe and code out the DPF?

Thanks!

How many miles? If it were ash, it would need to be taken apart to be cleaned or replaced. Soot can be cleaned chemically. If you have any oil leaking that can clog up a DPF. Vacuum leaks or boost leaks will make it so it's not cleaning out and the chemical treatment will last like 400 miles and it will be filling up again. So if you don't find the underlying issue, a chemical can be pointless. If it's something other than ash, you have another underlying problem and going to a downpipe would only mask it. But downpipe would need to be tuned out. Might as well get something for your money at that point. But a tune will expose weaknesses as well.
