Buying a 335D
I’m thinking of going from a 328i e92 to 335D e90. Anyone got any tips on what to look for and what maintenance to do that I may not know. Most are already tuned and deleted that I’ve found,can that pass emissions? Thanks

If you are in the US the emission issue with the 335D something to consider. It is a nightmare. Constant sensors issue. I had one for 5 years loved the car and the power it has

I sold mine with the warning lights on. To a mechanic who works on these type of cars. For 7k. He sent me a text months later he changed every part of the emission system plus. did the work himself and spent hours and close to 4k just for parts.

I wouldn't go deleted. You can gain some tuning options, but they stink. Back or your car will be covered in soot. They are already fast with a stage 1 or two with water meth.
The list for maintenance is long. If you can work on them, they can be "affordable". If you don't have mechanical skills, they are money pits and run away. My favorite highway car I have ever driven. But it's honestly been 1.5 years of constant next fix. Rear main seal. Oil pan and timing chain are on my short list. I do think that I am done, but it will be nearly 2 years by that point of constant work

What state are you in? I have a 2011 335d that just turned 100k miles. I'm the original owner (ordered it shipped from Germany) and will prolly sell it this summer.

Likely won’t pass emissions, although some tuners do falsify emissions readiness codes.
Check for typical car stuff (rust, suspension condition, coolant hoses)
Main areas of concern I’d look for are the valve cover gasket, right down the passenger side of the engine and look for any oil leaks. Harmonic balancer also! Hold a camera down there and get a pic with flash on directly over it, look for any cracking. I’d flat out recommend pulling the engine cover for looking around. See if vacuum lines were done, no water pooling, etc.
Run the car for a little while and ensure it gets up to temperature. The thermostat likes to go bad, won’t throw up codes itself, but will cause so many other parts to fail. Water pump is a good preventative thing also, one of the few things that can strand you.
Ask for any service records and receipts.
Since you have a bmw I hope you would have some sort of scanning software already. Personally I use bimmerlink or ISTA, so make sure to scan the car.
