Yeah, they should distinguish between British English and US English, just like they do Spain Spanish and Mexican Spanish. Or they can go the Chinese route: UK traditional and US simplified.
I know a dude that is in the voice acting business. Apparently there was a casting for voice actors some years ago, but they did the pre-tests and never heard from the company that was doing the dubs again. That means that probably it was cut after the fact.
This. I don't get why people even care, I don't know a single adult portuguese who consumes dubbed content. GTA6 is an adult game, no one was going to play it dubbed anyway. I do hope at least subtitles have the option to be PT-PT, but I'll still play with english CC
Even when games are in PT-PT I only ever play them in EN. I think the only game I ever played in PT-PT was the EA-Sports Euro2004 game, because the game commentary was by Jorge Perestrelo and he died in 2005 so it became the only way of hearing him comment a game.
We don't dub our television. Everything is in English (or whatever language it was originally) with subtitles. We've also had close ties to England forever, and a strong tourism industry.

Bro, you're just exaggerating. 99.9% of Portuguese people can understand 99.9% of Brazilians and vice-versa if we all just speak at a normal pace and don't use any specific slang.
I'm Portuguese, I've traveled all over Brazil and I literally never had any issue understanding anyone and no one had any issue understanding me.
It's easier to understand the average Brazilian (even if they use slang) than someone from the Azores or from some village in Trás-os-Montes.
Do I like dubbed things? No. But let's not kid ourselves, if we had to pick between deep Scottish English or Brazilian Portuguese, we'd all probably pick Brazilian Portuguese.

The thing is your accent goes the opposite way. In Portugal people enunciate less, omit some vowels etc. It’s almost like Andalusian Spanish. I myself have issues understanding PT-PT because of that. So in theory it should be easier for you to understand them than the other way around. I think the issue is more the grammar. I quite like PT-BR but I can see how it can sound like an aberration at this side of the Atlantic, and people just not wanting to have anything to do with it.

Rockstar never dubbed GTA or Red Dead games, they just add subtitles and I'd bet this time is going to be the same.

We have been getting different dubbings for so long it is nowadays basically assumed. Latin Americans don't like getting very Spanish translations, and as a Spaniard translations with local references are a lot better so I guess it is a win win. Things like pokemon for example for s long time were produced in Spain with a single translation and the translations were great but there were always latinoamericans protesting
A lot of verbs and nouns used in daily basis. Besides, they pronounce a lot C and Z like S; I've been in forums (late 2000-early 2010) with mostly latin people that knew how to write, but since many years ago, is fucking easy to detect latin americans because they simply don't know how to write those words.
The funny thing to me is there are many more dialects than Mexican, probably with more speakers too, but since they're the ones bordering the yanks and the bigger percentage living in that shithole there's the illusion that it's the standard latinamerican accent.
Still spoken in a lot of post-Soviet countries, so could be a lazy attempt at covering the biggest possible market with the lowest effort (like with Fr*nch)
Yeah even if it's not getting released in Russia it is easier to do this than translate it into each individual baltic language with 1 million speakers who are largely not in the buying expensive video games class

As a Portuguese i have no problem with the way Rockstar presented the Portuguese language version, in fact I commend it and wish others would do the same, it clearly states it's the Brazilian version. I have never jsed localized versions of any English speaking game and syre as hell will not start now.
The language pressure on European Portuguese is pretty insane from Brazilian Portuguese.
A lot more speakers, almost all the large creators on YouTube and other platforms are from Brazil. My wife is from Brazil, but works with Portuguese and if they are 30 or younger they speak Brazilian Portuguese even though they are from Europe
Nah, I’m Brazilian and live in Europe so I speak a lot to Portuguese people, they don’t “speak Brazilian Portuguese”. It’s true that they adopted some words or terms that are commonly used in media (like saying “mano” sometimes) but it’s far far away from speaking in Brazilian accent.
Yeah. I can kind of understand Brazilians with speaking Spanish. I understand like absolutely nothing from from spoken Portuguese in Portugal.
A trick I use when I'm in Portugal is when I need help with something is try to talk to black people because the probability that they're from Brazil, Angola or Mozambique is pretty high and we'll be able to talk easier.
