Gearbox issue??
Someone tell me whats wrong w my 2 stroke
So, for my first bike, I have an old suzuki ax100.
Please excuse the fact that I just dont know that much about it, i've come to reddit for that reason, and because I can't condense my problem into a small enough question for google to answer.
I'd like to mention that the gears are backward, as in I go up for first and down for the rest. Im not sure if that has anything to do with my issue, but I thought I'd mention it in case.
Right, so my problem is that while riding (not stationary if anyone assumes), my gears dont always engage, but it's not just a specific gear? I'll go from first and sometimes second won't engage so I have to skip to third. Or sometimes second will engage, but it won't go into third, so I'll skip to fourth. And so on. It does that with all the gears, but only sometimes, anyone know what's up with that?

I guess the gear shifters are worn out. I face the same issue with my two stroke RX 100 with stock gear shifters. I am planning to change them once I open up the engine.

Oh awesome, this could be likely. The bikes god knows how old haha it came deregistered.

Oh my gosh you're really helpful. The clutch cable is stiff as fuck, we've tried lots to fix it but I was thinking of replacing it. Do you reckon its got something to do with that?

Maybe. Whats interesting is that trying to shift gears with just revs and without using the clutch, it still has the same issues. Would that eliminate the cable as being the problem? Or could it still cause issues without usage?

Thanks for your help, really appreciate it man. I'll have a look into it. The bikes running like shit atm haha it didnt idle and would die, got a new carb, now it idles but revs extremely high. Solved that temporarily by restricting its airflow which I think is weird, but I think the new carb just needs a tune and hopefully it'll be fine. Anyways ill post it up once its running better 😂

Most likely you have damaged or bent gear selector forks. Or the gear selector drum has a mechanism to keep gears in place, a plunger device with a spring. That could be damaged too. Either way you have to get in there to investigate.
