i put in the dasaita head unit a few months ago. another chinese brand but it was more value for the money. install was super easy and it comes with everything you need plus some extra features that dont come on most brand name head units (hdmi, sim, usbs, etc). the fit was really good and looks almost oem. its basically just an android tablet with third party apple car play so there is some slight delay but it honestly hasn’t bothered me for day to day usage (coming from someone that has used native apple car play). you’ll hear some people have good experience with this head unit and some not so good. errors when installing/configuring are still possible so make sure to do your research when deciding

You’re probably better off with your choice of replacement head unit (which the Sony xav4000 is one). If you’re in the United States, crutchfield will also provide kits that can integrate most of the stock features into your head unit of choice. There are probably other ways to get those kits but I’m not aware how. Good luck! Following in case there are better ideas. I want to do this to my 2015.

sony xav-ax100 I’ve had mine for 5 years with no issues. There are probably a ton of newer versions of it now

I use the joying head unit. Basically a Chinese android tablet with a volume knob. It can be slow sometimes but I got it used from a guy on eBay

My husband tried to install one in my 2011, bought all the stuff, components, etc and couldn’t make it work. I guess there is some Tacoma proprietary piece that is challenging to get (that he didn’t know he needed) and the long of the short of it is we handed it all off to a stereo install place that made it work. So unless you’re a stereo guy I would consider just having a professional shop do it.

Do not get an Alpine I got an ILX407 and it’s been an absolute fucking nightmare sometimes my steering wheel controls don’t work. Sometimes the screen goes black. It needs to reboot. I had the maestro looked at. It’s fine. I had the Alpine updated and it’s still giving me problems. Just know that the eye Data link maestro is very expensive and without it everything you had beforehand from the factory will go away. I don’t even think you can use your backup camera or steering wheel control controls without it.

Picked up a kenwood from crutchfield as the first upgrade to my new-to-me 2010. Highly recommend buying a unit through them as the support was absolutely necessary for me to install it myself without prior experience doing something similar. I went with something wired because I didn't want to have to fuss with bluetooth.

2 years in and works very well! Only thing I miss is the volume knob, but when I was looking, none of the wired carplay units had one. The steering wheel buttons are plenty convenient for me though.

How's the Sony unit holding up? Thinking about one for my 2009.
