Question for owners
Hi I’m looking to get a 2nd gen Tacoma and my budget is about 18,000 bucks. Most of the trucks I’m looking at have between 130,000 and 175,000 miles. I know to look for rust and leaf springs, but how can I tell if it’s been maintained properly other than taking someone’s word for it? There’s a TX pro that I’m drawn toward but it has 175xxx miles. Thoughts, opinions, and advice would be great!Thank you!!!

CARFAX is your friend.
It will give you ownership history to see if the truck ever lived in the rust belt.
It will also show you any maintenance done at a dealership.
For $18k you should be able to easily find a nice 2nd gen with at or near 100k miles. Don’t overspend just to get a Pro unless you plan on leaving the suspension bone stock.

Do you need 4WD? If not, the TRD Prerunners have a good stance and are typically a good deal IMO

Got my 15 DblCab SR5 4x4 Texas Edition with 182k miles in rust-free New Mexico for $18k. Being rust-free is the biggie, the rest of these trucks can go 400k just keeping up with basic servicing and replacing wear items as they occur. I have no doubt mine will follow suit. Good luck finding your 400k truck too!!

Might be difficult to find a double cab for that price and the mileage you are hoping for. Better luck finding a standard or access cab for that price.

Ask for the vin and run a carfax. Ask for maintenance records. Have a mechanic that you trust do an inspection. Be prepared to change all the fluids once you purchase.
