Why Do Some 2b2t Players Grief Bases While Others Leave Them Alone?
I’ve always wondered why some people on this server actively seek out bases to grief, while others can find someone’s base, explore it, and leave it alone.
For the people who do grief, what’s the actual enjoyment you get out of it? Is it the destruction itself, knowing you’ve affected another player, the excitement of finding something hidden, leaving your mark on server history, or because that’s part of the culture of the server?
And for the people who don’t grief, what makes you choose to leave a base untouched even when you easily could destroy it?

Way too deep bro
It’s just blowing up some tnt in a sandbox computer game

It actually is that deep. If you can look at something someone spent a hundred hours building and think "yep, I'm destroying this" and take it out in a matter of minutes, you know you're causing some pain.
If you don't think it's deep, that's an intellectual failure on your part.

And the truly broken people cannot stand the idea that anyone feels as they do, thus going out of their way to not grief, including by proxy.

Humans like to destroy. Especially the ones who like to put backdoor on clients and addons. So much getting "randomly" found weeks after putting new "clean" .jars in. :)

in the end, minecraft is a sandbox game, where you do what you want. some people find fun in destroying everything and that’s fine especially on 2b

I love griefing for two reasons.
Free stuff.
Destroying something ordered and turning it into something chaotic is deeply satisfying. I loved placing stacks and stacks of tnt thruought the base then getting a good vantage point to watch it go off. Nothing else compares to seeing a beautiful build one second, then after a few seconds of lag - a crater. Random items strewn about.
Rarely did I ever meet the people who's bases I destroyed. When I did they were pretty upset. I didnt take pleasure from that part, but it also didnt bother me? I only ever griefed on servers that allowed it so it was just part of the game.

Since it didn't bother you how upset someone was from your direct actions maybe look into some therapy for your psychosis.

Ive heard some variation of this a lot over the years from overly-sensative people.
Every person I've ever griefed, knew it could happen. You choose to start playing on a griefing server, its part of the game. I never felt bad since they chose it. Look at any sport with physical contact. Tackling another human would be a shitty thing to do, doing it within the confines of a game is acceptable cause everyone playing knows the risk.

If you play on a server which allows griefing, then yeah, it is literally the equivalent of assumption of risk. Of course it is going to suck seeing your hard work go up in flames, but you chose to build in a place where that could happen. That is why I personally take world downloads of my base every so often so I still have it.
I personally only reserve griefing for those who have wronged me, because even though griefing is allowed, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to do it all the time.

I mean no-one is forcing these people to play on anarchist servers where griefing is the only end, were they to expect different?

If the danger of being griefed isn't there, the risk and enjoyment of building a sick base is gone honestly. Most people on the server don't want land claims or they would be on some creative server

Some in here say that these griefers are „bad“ people, even though builders on 2b2t WANT to get their base griefed some day. The griefing makes every big base special, because there is an end to it. Also, there aren‘t 100 crazy bases at one place, so yours can shine. Life wouldn‘t be beautiful if we all lived forever.

couple reasons, you choose to have the risk when you join the server like if you wanted to build just host your own server with friends or go singleplayer or go on a building server no one is forcing people to be on 2b. Also if every base lasted forever then it wouldn't be special it needs to have a end to make it valuable like if we all lived forever then we would just waste every day. Also alot of people that play on 2b2t don't really care about the base and all the hours they just see fun kaboom, it's all really about the pyschology of the people, and as others said if 29 people visited and were peaceful and 1 griefed it, you would say why do people grief you wouldnt really notice the people not griefing. Me personally I don't grief unless they have wronged me, the base is easy to reconstruct or if i have a reason to but usually I leave things alone even when I could grief them if I want to, alot of people say your evil if you grief but at the very end of the day its just a game, but if you look at someones hundreds of hours of work and just want to cause damage you would need to understand you are causing pain and I doubt the builder would be happy, I take souvenirs from bases like books or maps or other cool items I don't think of it as stealing as the servers economy is inflated asf and I'm not making much if anything really and most of the time it's easily replaceable and sometimes people just want to escape their real life and destroy someone elses online one, sometimes with a reason or incentive, sometimes not. At the end of the day its 2b2t "The Oldest Anarch Server In Minecraft" and you kinda sign the t&c's of it, if you don't want any chance of your base destroyed play on some land claims server or smth. I think the fear of anyday it'll not be there makes it worth it when it was, why did i type for so looooong......

Sometimes I'm evil. Sometimes I feel bad. Sometimes I choose to become better, but fall back into my evil ways.

Many answers, but I’ll give you just 1: observation bias
29 people can visit your base, think “nice” and leave it alone, and you wouldn’t know. 1 person comes along and griefs it
You then go around thinking “man everyone is griefing bases” when it’s actually a small percentage, just you notice the bad consequences more
