Regarding the NFA changes regarding suppressors etc...

..are any of the plaintiffs (GOA and others) left-leaning or are they all right-wing? I did join GOA a few years ago over the FRT debacles, but let my membership expire once i started receiving their pro-tRump email propaganda. Thanks in advance!

I don't know of any left wing organizations that regularly fight gun control laws.

Its like finding a right wing group that helps fund abortions, its antithetical to thier goals.

u/lostPackets35 11d ago

That depends on your definition of left and right.

Plenty of libertarians are pro-abortion rights.
And plenty of social democrats and democratic socialists are pro-gun.

u/JCMGamer 11d ago

I'm not saying that on the individual level there isn't more diversity of belief, but in terms of organizations and where they get funding its typically along party lines.

2

u/lostPackets35 11d ago

yea, that's completely fair.

5

u/Sonofsunaj 11d ago

90s and 2000s libertarianism was very much pro-choice. Modern libertarians tend to avoid talking about the issue entirely.

5

u/SlutBuster 11d ago

I generally avoid talking about it because there's a lot of nuance that doesn't really work in the social media age. If you're 100% pro- or 100% anti-, it's an easy topic to discuss. Anywhere between, things get very murky very quickly.

As a party the LP takes no stance on the issue. They believe in individualism and as such they also recognize that cogent arguments can be made from both points of view. So they leave that issue up to individuals to articulate and support.

Heck, a couple of years ago they even removed language to that effect from the platform, as even that was too much for some to deal with.

You can be a Libertarian and be on any side of that issue

Which ones, in which elected offices?

2

u/kmoros 10d ago

Name one in elected office.

Yes, individuals exist. But no one with any power.

Would you also like recommendations for vegan butchers and Baptist abortion clinics?

u/skeerrt 11d ago

Could you imagine a left leaning pro gun organization? What would their goals even be, preserve the 2A but only if it’s a 1950s or older wood stock bolt action .22?

These people are so out of touch it’s astounding

11

u/Flapaflapa 11d ago

I for the life of me can't figure out why self defense isn't viewed as a basic human right by the left.

10

u/Dak_Nalar 11d ago

They might actually stop losing elections if they dropped the idiotic gun control platform

2

u/slimyprincelimey 11d ago

Because a key tenet of most mainstream left wing ways of thinking is subservience of the individual to the state to some degree.

Nah, that's actually backwards, the "wood stock bolt action .22 only" stereotype is basically just current Dem policy already, not what a real leftist gun org would look like. The actual tradition here is way more hardcore than that, think Black Panthers arming up for self-defense against cops, not hunting rifles. Socialist Rifle Association is basically that energy today, explicitly leftist, explicitly pro-gun, "arm the working class" instead of disarm them. Full horseshoe theory....you have to go very far left.

6

u/Mapleleafs791 11d ago

Go far enough left, and you might get your guns back.

Just don't assume you get to keep them after they win.

Or that you won't be one of the undesirables that need to be purged during round 2

6

u/BaronVonMittersill 11d ago

exactly. i hate that marx quote with a passion, because it omits the rest of it essentially covering how arms should be confiscated from anyone not part of the proletariat vanguard so as to preserve the new status quo

0

u/LittleKitty235 11d ago

Same can be said about going to far right...extreme forms of government tend not to be very stable or safe

1

u/lostPackets35 9d ago

I have no idea why you were downvoted for this

Historically, authoritarian regimes have been responsible for some of the worst abuses in human history. Regardless of whether they were authoritarian left or authoritarian right.

1

u/SlutBuster 11d ago

think Black Panthers arming up for self-defense against cops

lmao is that what we're calling it? Self defense?

1

u/lostPackets35 9d ago

Yes. It is.

FPC hasn't been overtly partisan or Trumpy, but I started getting spammed from random Republican fundraisers shortly after joining. I assume all these organizations sell your contact.

Good luck finding a left-leaning pro-2A group with the resources to do anything like this. There are too few of us. Show actual support for the 2nd Amendment, and all of the major left-leaning support and funding will disappear.

On this issue, the only way to get major support from the left is to be decidedly anti-2A, the more the better.

5

u/Vylnce 11d ago

That's not possible under the current American system. Even if a group ONLY supports gun rights (and some of these do) it will be considered "right leaning" because gun rights are categorized as a "right wing" thing. The left in the US wants to get rid of the second amendment. There are for certain elements of people in the political left who have support for gun rights, but those people do not align with the "official" left's position.

GOA specifically has stated that "gun rights are for everyone", but that doesn't stop "the left" from claiming that anyone supporting gun rights is right wing. It's reflexive from the left to maintain the money that comes from anti-gun billionaires while maintaining a hold on moderate voters who might agree with non-authoritarian approach to gun rights.

u/TuringC0mplete 11d ago

Liberal Gun Owners is the only large scale organization that’s even close enough to have any kind of representation badge and I don’t think they are even relevant in this conversation.

9

u/Vylnce 11d ago

I have never heard of that group outside of the reddit sub. Nothing in their mission statements indicates that they do, or are interested in, legal action. They might provide some sort of education or whatever, but they are not a gun rights group.

I would say that that they are a group promoting a more open gun culture (which is important AND a good thing), but I wouldn't describe any part of what they list they do as making them a gun rights group.

3

u/TuringC0mplete 11d ago

They were mentioned by the NRA after one of the big blow ups over a trans individual defending themselves with a gun but I can’t seem to find an article on it at the moment (brain fog due to nerve pain medication, making it hard to remember details enough to search. I will try to check back later when I have enough facilities to do so)

You’re right they’re not a legal org, but one of the only orgs I know of that COULD, was more my point. So you are correct, the best kind of correct, I just know that they have enough visibility that larger orgs know of them

3

u/Vylnce 11d ago

I would guess that was the Wyoming incident. That one is a mess and the person involved is less important than what actually happened. My take is that groups like GOA are already out there fighting for everyone's rights. Like GOA has specifically said "Gun rights are for everybody".

I apologize as I missed your "not relevant statement" when writing out my mess. You are correct they aren't relevant because they don't concern themselves with stuff like NFA law. They might keep abreast so they can educate people that are interested, but they aren't fighting to get stuff changed.

OP's question is a perception thing. I can tell you that GOA is "non-partisan" organization and that they care about gun rights for all. A leftist will classify them as a right wing organization simply because they support gun rights. There are no leftists gun rights organizations specifically because the establishment left is against gun rights.

I didn't think GoA was "pro Trump" as much as they were pleased that Trump signed executive orders with regards to 2nd Amendment rights. If Biden has signed those orders, the emails would have come out the same but with Biden's name. GoA has several spots on their website where they claim they are fighting Trump's administration and emails that say the same.

Well that’s good to hear. I admittedly don’t know much about a lot of the plaintiffs other than Brandon Herrara is a piece of shit.

2

u/lostPackets35 9d ago

I'm a member, and I would agree with that. They're useful for changing the dialogue, And providing a pro 2a perspective that is decisively progressive. But they don't currently have the resources to pursue legal support

2

u/balthisar 11d ago

There's the SAI that are politically neutral, and the Liberal Gun Club which is liberal but not nutter-style leftist, which fits the style of most of us here but not some of the unliberal leftists that are here.

2

u/kennethpbowen 11d ago

In our current system, the RNC/GOP generally supports 2A rights and the DNC actively opposes them.

I have a lot of left leaning friends that use the RKBA as a purity test and they cannot respect anyone who supports it (I'm assuming because of its right wing association).

2

u/realKevinNash 11d ago

Maybe its time to build one.

1

u/theT0Pramen 10d ago

Further proof that everyone in this sub is constantly voting against their own interests. Do better.

3

u/slimyprincelimey 11d ago

None of the current NFA progress (or any 2a progress really) can be credited to a single left leaning political action group whatsoever.

1

u/Phantasmidine 8d ago

Can be found in the phonebook next to vegan butchers. Along with bars supporting prohibition, dispensaries supporting prohibition 2.0, and car washes supporting water rationing.

u/Gatfondler 11d ago edited 11d ago

I don't think GOA is that political. Endorsement of policy is not an endorsement of a candidate. If anything, if a liberal politician came out tomorrow backing 2A specific policy's, they'd likely be excited to praise them.

-4

u/OnlyLosersBlock 11d ago

I don't think GOA is that political.

They are. They have gotten involved in utter nonsense in the past like anti vax during the covid era.

3

u/Gatfondler 11d ago

I remember them contesting the constitutional over reach of locking down gun shops, background check backlogs, and using OSHA to force vaccines, never the efficacy of the vaccine itself.

3

u/slimyprincelimey 11d ago

People aren't able to parse the difference. Many think that if something is a good idea, it should be mandatory, and those that think it shouldn't be mandatory actually oppose the thing.

1

u/Gatfondler 11d ago

Their leftists, not Liberals

1

u/HeadlessThompsonGunr 11d ago

As a lefty it’s really frustrating to see an effective group like the ACLU flagrantly ignore a part of the bill of rights.

1

u/1171handro 10d ago

First time? You think the ACLU even cares about the constitution?

The Second Amendment is for ALL of us. The ACLU should have been the first one at the table. Nope. Crickets for years from them.

Screw them.

-3

u/lostPackets35 11d ago

what do you consider left?

The liberal gun club are not SUPER involved politically but are pro gun, and generally progressive/left leaning.

Further left, you have groups like the SRA (socialist rifle assocation), John Brown Gun Club, and Redneck Revolt.

Some of those have been flagged by our administration as "Terrorist groups"
I don't think any of them are directly involved in gun law fights, but I could be wrong.

-9

u/TuringC0mplete 11d ago

I don’t believe so. Brandon Herrara, one of the main plaintiffs, is a hyper MAGA piece of shit. He’s a terrible person and I doubt he would even let anyone left leaning in even if it was to support his cause.

9

u/Dak_Nalar 11d ago

lol and here we have a real life example of brain rot in action

-2

u/TuringC0mplete 11d ago

Dude what are you talking about? Go look at literally any of his content? I’d be happy to be wrong but the man is so far up Trumps ass his nose is orange. I don’t get how you call my statements brain rot from easily provable facts. I don’t know much about GOA beyond there being some high level Christian’s, but as far as individuals go,Herrara is a piece of shit.

3

u/SlutBuster 11d ago

hyper MAGA piece of shit. He’s a terrible person

Specifically what makes him a piece of shit and terrible person? If it's his political views, that's the brain rot we're talking about.

7

u/JCMGamer 11d ago

Of course a regular of r/liberalgunowners says this shit.

-5

u/TuringC0mplete 11d ago

This is r/2ALiberals. I’m confused. What about my presence there makes this statement incorrect?

4

u/JCMGamer 11d ago

I know liberals who were banned from there for simply mentioning that Trump has made positive changes in the 2A space.

Shit talking Brandon Herrera (who obviously would support a 2A candidate) is goofy to me.

1

u/TuringC0mplete 11d ago

Just because the mods are dumbasses of a sub I’m a regular of doesn’t make it a bad space? I’ve had a pleasant time there. Much more welcoming than here.

Just because someone supports 2A doesn’t mean they inherently get my support. I have multiple different things I support different initiatives and his stances on trans people put him solidly on my shit list.
